Videogame makers Konami have announced the update to their very popular football simulator, Pro Evolution Soccer (PES). They have also plotted out the eFootball PES 2022 roadmap. PES is one half of the duopoly that reign supreme in football sports today. The other half being EA’s FIFA.

The game started out as International Superstar Soccer (ISS) in 1994. It was later renamed to World Soccer Winning Eleven and then later on, Pro Evolution Soccer (PES). In 2020, the game name was changed to eFootball 2021 showing the company’s desire to go fully digital.

During the transition from PES 2020 to eFootball PES 2021, not a lot changed. In fact, barely nothing was changed, aside the usual roster update and some tweaks to the gameplay. This year however, a whole lot is changing.

Chief amongst these changes is the change of logo. Gone is the old logo and in is a new logo with a blue background and a stylized E in the middle. The game has also been rebuilt from the ground up using a new engine. The next big change is that PES is now fully digital and completely free to play. This means that PES is free to download and play from the Konami website. The game will no longer be sold via physical format (discs) or even digitally.

The company has also signed a sponsorship deal with Neymar Jr. to grace the cover of the game amongst other big changes.

eFootball PES 2022 roadmap
Here is a quick run through of the new changes and events planned for eFootball PES 2022.

Early Autumn (August 2021):
The new game engine used for the game will be unveiled. Cross generational matches between older and newer consoles is now possible. This should enable those with last gen consoles like the Playstation 4 and Xbox One play with or against people with the latest gen consoles like the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X. Cross platform gameplay will be available for the first time as console (Playstation & Xbox) and PC (Steam) players can now trade tackles.

Autumn (September 2021):
A new online league will be announced for consoles. There is also going to be a team building mode and a new match pass system. The match pass system is a system that gives out a number of rewards based on certain targets met e.g. number of games completed, goals scored or points earned etc.

Winter (November/December, 2021):
The PES eSports tournament is going to kick off around this time. In addition, cross platform gameplay will also be enabled for mobile players of PES. This means that players owning a Playstation 4 or 5, Xbox One or Series X, a PC with a Steam account, and a Android or iPhone device can now play against each other. To level the playing field, there is going to be mobile controller support for smartphones.

The new release however said nothing about if Konami are getting new servers or if they have plans to deal with bugs, lag and null cheaters.

Pes has been destroyed so painful.

Nice development, I played I'd yesterday with friend's phone it's nice,

But the Pads action often changes which makes it somehow difficult.
