I'm sorry to disturb you sir/ma, I'm currently in a position I feel I needed a serious advise.
I rounded up my service year, Nov.2020, luckily I was able to secure a job in a construction company jan.2021 although m on probation (1year).
I managed to secure an half plot of land this month somewhere around Ogun state from my little savings(as a result of this I don't have any savings in my acct)
my probation period will be over by dec. With little chance of being retained.
I'm actually planning to rough things through to Dec. again this year so that I can do the foundation of the land(which means I will not be having any savings) with high probability of not being retained.
Is it advisable to do this when m sure I will probably not be retained or I should save to invest in a business?
Still below 26yrs, pls I need ur opinion and suggestions..thank you

Dont develop or go into business wait and see what December brings, It’s just few months away. Kip saving.

At your age-26, just save your remaining salary for the 'roughing period".
Those saying that land can easily be liquidated don't know that this mostly happens in distress sales except the land is located in a good site. We all know op's land at ogun state doesn't sound like a premium sited property

With your age, I will advise you just save a little amount somewhere to take care of yourself for few months in case you are not retain. So what I am saying in essence is that you should continue in the building. You know why, this is a time when you can still hustle for other jobs should it turned out that you are not retain. This is the time when your body can still take the stress of hustling besides, if it turns out that you can't get another job after a long time of being dismissed, you can secure loan for a business with the land and whatever you build on it or you can sell it off to raise money for business. By then you would have written off the possibility of getting job, you would have take your time to think properly of the new business. I hope this help.
More blessing

Says the book of proverbs 24 vs 27. The Job can be said to be a stable work/business. I will advise the OP to buy another land for keep. Then use the next tranch of savings to build the house. If anything happens in the near future that affects his job (I pray not), he can then sell the land to complete the building.

Save up till the end of your probation, if your position isn't made permanent, buy a good Naija used car and become UberBolt driver or invest in any good biz youve mastered and know its feasibility

If your position is made permanent, you can go ahead with the construction.

Good luck to you

I will just advise you to have a physical presence on that land so that nobody will illegally enter it to start doing something on it.

You may fence it round, like low fence or start a kind of small foundation on it.

Leaving a land just virgin like that is risky nowadays except you are very sure that the land is secured or it's in care of someone that you trust. Otherwise, before you know it some omo onile can sell it off or even start building on it ...

That's all I will advise you....

Best advise so far

olaboy33:
With the current situation of the country, its hard to start or even maintain a business, even considering you are still actively working, you might not get enough time to build and monitor whatever business you venture in.

I'll also advise you 'rough things' and save enough to get another land. Land itself is a business, as it appreciates over time and is easily liquidable.

Forget about developing the lands for now, building an house is not as easy as it sounds.

Whatever happens after your one year, you can get something to fall immediately back on.

Goodluck.

business first.
building is very expensive. u might not complete the house.
if you rush it u will have no money to eat.
just take the building slowly from proceed of the business.
u can put in 100k or 200k from the proceed of the business every month .
please dont use your capital to do House Building.

I like your analysis.
People always think reselling of land is easy as it's said.
When the land is not in a lucrative site, you are in for a ride.
If I were him, I will invest that money in a business I have idea on.

I would have advise you to start a business but I'm not sure you're ready for business or not. However, try to buy another land because land is also a good investment. And as from tomorrow Tuesday, start to look for another job against December. Its not good not to have atleast one stream of income in these economy

Hmmmm. At 26, your major goal should be career, career and career! Find a path and a good mentor to guide you on your way. Building a house and or business after university when you have not acquired much experience increases your chances of failure. Forget the naysayers, business is good but right now, you need experience.

House first.

One that land you can even run a school, day care, poultry, etc.

You dont have the exp in biz, so run from biz at this stage.

You will get exp in biz, when you start loosing your money and after.

No take the biz risk now.

House first.

You can also rent to tenants.

Bros, there is nothing like investing in property. No matter the business, if you don't have landed property generating income for you, you have nothing yet. It is only property you can call your own anyday and be rest assured you have stuff someone.

Interestingly that is what we do. So call us today and let's help you own a property, later on you can do your business.

If you must build a house..Then build a commercial building for rent..Don't build a private building for now...

Commercial building for rent is an asset while personal building is a liability.

Leave the land as it is, till December. If you haven't been retained, sell the land, add to your savings and start a business, especially a car wash at a busy area, or any business you think thrives around your domain... Meanwhile, I have this piece for you to ponder upon.

If i were you, my 2 options would be either to buy another land or invest in something i would easily liquidate if i fail to retain my job at the end of the year.

You should only go into the business when you're sure you've lost the job, and will be physically available to run it by yourself.

Beautiful piece of advice. Bravo!

Op.... since you already have land, you can research on raising livestock like pig, goat or ram on it, probably buy baby goats, rams or piglets from locations where it's cheap and raise them till maturity and sell for a profit...feed for these sets of animals are quite cheap compared to poultry which I wouldn't advice you to do and despite it not being a white collar job it's still highly profitable. Research online and offline before you venture into any biz tho. God's willing the business would prosper and you can use the proceeds to finish your house.

Best of luck.
