I'm sorry to disturb you sir/ma, I'm currently in a position I feel I needed a serious advise.
I rounded up my service year, Nov.2020, luckily I was able to secure a job in a construction company jan.2021 although m on probation (1year).
I managed to secure an half plot of land this month somewhere around Ogun state from my little savings(as a result of this I don't have any savings in my acct)
my probation period will be over by dec. With little chance of being retained.
I'm actually planning to rough things through to Dec. again this year so that I can do the foundation of the land(which means I will not be having any savings) with high probability of not being retained.
Is it advisable to do this when m sure I will probably not be retained or I should save to invest in a business?
Still below 26yrs, pls I need ur opinion and suggestions..thank you

I was around your age too when I rushed to go and buy land in Ogun State and start building. One of the greatest mistakes of my life. Even the Ogun State where I buy land seff no develop and if I build the house finish and decide to live there, I will be shut out of civilization and live with 18th century minded people inside Ifo abi na inside Sango seff.

Let the land appreciate and sell it off. No kill yourself.

Leave the land for now and do something profitable with that money you want to put in developing the land.
Later as time goes by you will be able to have enough to put in developing the land gradually.

The land is there already , building a house issa gradual process good luck bro.

I wish am having a piece of Land too.

Like my friend said, business is not real ,go for real estate. Buy more genuine lands,it is nice investment that appreciate overtime. So many factors affects business. Ranging from government policies and inflation. If you use the money for business you will not be available to supervise. You will regret it. Business is a profit contest not popularity contest. Just use this period, save and plan on the business you will enter into. Even if you are out of job,you can now venture into the business full-time after liquidating your real estate investment. Good luck!

Confirm!

You smart

Land itself is a business cuz it's a very huge appreciating investment and asset
olaboy33:
With the current situation of the country, its hard to start or even maintain a business, even considering you are still actively working, you might not get enough time to build and monitor whatever business you venture in.

I'll also advise you 'rough things' and save enough to get another land. Land itself is a business, as it appreciates over time and is easily liquidable.

Forget about developing the lands for now, building an house is not as easy as it sounds.

Whatever happens after your one year, you can get something to fall immediately back on.

Goodluck.

I made same mistake when I was around that your age, rushing to build house. When i eventually needed money to put into my business, I tried to sell the house but no buyer came around... Brother, make research on a business or learn a trade and invest in it... You are still young... Try not to live an extravagant life and manage yourself through the hustling days and you will eventually build yourself a bigger house...

My house is still there and looking for buyer.
Any interested person...

Why didnt you secure a loan with the house?
Re: Business Or Building A House by 1F30M4(f): 1:45pm On Aug 09, 2021
Not advisable when you do not know your fate, what will you fall back on? The foundation? Noo.. Business is good but will you have time to run that now? Have you thought it through? As a problem solver, what do you think other residents there need but can't get access to? Is it something that will fetch you money to provide your basic needs daily? Take a stroll, look around, "what do think these people need but they can't easily get access to, either they have to go miles to get orrr they don't get it at all?".. As it is now, you ought to lay down plans on how to survive, come what it may.. Good luck!

Start a business.

You are better off using the money to buy a Toyota Corolla for Uber/taxi in case you lose your job. I don't think you understand the cost of building a house in this period.

Cash flow is the most important thing at this stage in your life.

I made this same moves at about your age too. My advice would be for you to first and foremost, save your money in dollars either via cryptocurrency or forex. (N.B. Do not trade until you have learnt how to trade thoroughly. Just keep more of your cash in those forms) and within now and December, learn how to trade forex or crypto and ensure you're wonderfully and consistently good at both before December. so by December if you're not retained at your job, you can start trading forex for little profits, I warn you, be sure you have mastered the trading skills and emotions. Else, you can also retrieve your money from those forms and do whatever business you think you have very good knowledge and understanding about.

A landed property at Ogun state that won't be near completion by December is not so much a good idea, cos selling off such properties can be difficult. but do enough on it to secure it from grabbers.

Finally, learn employable skills between now and December and start applying for jobs, you should be able to get a job if you're not retained on the present job that takes care of your basic needs from feeding to transport and others on the minimum, instead of being idle and dependent one income source.

If you don't have knowledge, patience and experience of the particular business you want to venture into, you might end up regretting starting it, business takes time to germinate.

This money you're talking about, will it be enough to build the house from start to finish level or just for foundation?
Sorry, you should know it won't .

You never buy any land.
Try and do foundation first.
Secure the land

Why do you want to overstrech yourself like this? you will burn out too soon when you start planning and spebding money that you haven't yet earn. do you know that after loosing a job you will need to leave on salary of 3 to 6 months before you start earning again?
Why don't you secure this land with bacons and regular visits while you focus on the job at hand and save for now.
who know they might retain you if you give your best and you will be able to build the house in peace.

The 10 bags of cement that you plan to use to foundation might not be enough and of course labourer will be on your neck for more to be able to complete their jobe.. all this are just naration of what you might or might not encounter.

save for now and hope for the best because the best it yet to come.

My little advice a Land is a fixed asset that appreciates with time, but is also determinant to the location of the land, regarding setting up a business in Nigeria, it takes the Grace of God for a business to survive.

If the location of the Land is worthwhile, I would advise starting your building, but if not invest in a viable business.

Thanks

Emma1Oj:
Since you don't have enough capital to finish it now. Just build a fence round it to secure it. Because if u leave it unfenced intruders will step in. And continue what brings in capital for you.

Please follow this advice so won't loss the land and keep saving till the end of your probatory period. Please don't invest in any business at the moment. You can also add relevant certificate to help you get a better Job.

You can venture into biz, that you know very well about,by start small not with all your savings,or you buy another land its an investment on his own but make sure it has tittle deed, you can also start building on the existing plot, in as much the age is in your side, have in mind that you will complete it for your own use but if otherwise later it still yours you can do anything about it,just make sure if you decide to build you make standard an modern so to add value to it later, get a good plan that people can accept, if embarking on building now and money is enough you continue from where you stop later once you make standard form the foundation, but if you invest in business and foldup who will give you another one, but if you know about business that you know 90% about is better you go for it, if not better you start build your own house, this will ginger you to strive hard and the building is yours, you can do what you like about it anytime and get your money in addition back.
Re: Business Or Building A House by Connected1: 3:16pm On Aug 09, 2021
I am just like you bro, my Jon doesn'thave enough security too, I have a plot of land, I bought it at 300k last year, now it's about 1m for resale price and it's still pumping due to the location it is situated.

Forget that business thing oh unless you want to do it full time else your workers or the harsh economy and it's policies will frustrate you.

I am still building my career and I will continue to, please don't erect a foundation yet oh. Just build a 4 corner fence for security reasons ( although they can still sell it oh, them dae sell house wey people dae stay sef), well I haven't put a fence in mine but the seller is genuine and I can kill any baggar because of that land if they misbehave, it's my sweat, when I have money I will do it, I hope you have legit deed of assignment document or others for you land.

Lastly Pray to God for security of your Assets and save enough to buy more plots and sell later to Japa from Naija.

The only difference between us is that I am younger and I currently earn below you.
