Take Nairaland for instance the way people abuse other ethnic groups, insult women and generally insult each other and these are the " leaders of Tomorrow ". That means tomorrow will be worse than today. Leadership is a major challenge in sub Saharan Africa , why that is may be due to the inability to delay gratification. There is a high "NOW " tendency in Nigeria and this affects are ability to think of outcomes down the line. I live in a highly educated estate in Lagos, packed with University Professors, Lawyers , Doctors and the intellectual elite in the Private Sector.
On Saturday someone pasted large stickers on so many gates of my 200 houses estate, as I came out of my house I saw the immediate danger of having anyone paste posters on your gate, more people will take inspiration and paste on all the gates, sooner than later the gates will be covered in posters, so I removed the sticker on my gate and informed close to 20 neighbors on my street that their gates had stickers on them, I asked if I could remove the stickers for them and they said " Yes ". I removed 19 stickers but left one sticker on the chairman of the estates gate to see the chairman's reaction and how far he thought down the line. I then went to the security post and lodged a complaint, poster and sticker posting is banned in the estate. I thought the security who we all pay N5,000 a month (N1,000,000 a month if all residents pay.) Would have swung into action to remove all stickers that had vandalized residents gate. It's day 4 since the posters have been on the chairman of the estates gate and still all around the estate. It goes to show that foresight is a challenge for the so called intellectual elite of Nigeria, these are the best academics that Nigeria had in the past and they lack foresight. They are waiting for their gates to be completely covered in Stickers and posters by then a poster war will be in effect, residents constantly removing posters and poster who believe they have the right to paste posters. A stitch in time saves 9. It's amazing that the sticker is on their gate and they cannot see the future, that more stickers are coming, so if the stickers were placed in an estate a kilometer from their houses would they understand anything ? The whole thing brings us to Fela Kuti who called Nigeria a BIG BLIND COUNTRY. When next you Criticize a Political leader, make sure you are more intelligent than him and can see the future before it unfolds. Feel very free to criticize religious leaders those are the Snakes in Sheep's clothing.
We know of People who criticized every single thing Goodluck Jonathan did when they got a chance to lead they were actually by far worse. If Jonathan stood up the opposition would say he was not standing well, if Jonathan sat down the opposition would say he was not sitting down well. If Jonathan smiled they would say " that is not how you smile in UN meetings ". And Goodluck Jonathan had nobody arrested for all the player hating crimes he received. What a Great Man.
