Everyone tells me this, I hope I don’t ever experience this issue if I ever move to Nigeria.

Hopefully they still be a country by then.... the rest at which death and killing is so rampant, I wonder how long the country will stay together

The insecurity in Nigeria is in another level, forget about corruption but for the fact that you are not safe anywhere freaks me out, let alone when you have a bit of money

Got the visa while i was still employed, later resigned to focus on my side business which i was actually doing before, while i was still employed. But i will place someone in charge to oversee it on my behalf before traveling for vacation

It’s possible you switched to remote working after your one month vacation ended….. so you were actually working during your stay.

Not only that, the hospitals would rather let a patient die because they cant pay 5k naira for a pint of blood.

This is true and something we don't really appreciate about NHS, even a visitor here will be treated first before they care to ask the patient for payment

please i heard that age factors also affects buying house in the UK. Does age factor affects pls? like if someone is 45 -50, can the person buy a house?

Then someone that have a permanent job and been paid £1600 every month, and keep saving £1000 every month for two years to have £20,000 down payment, can that person be able to buy a house with that kind of salary? Must my salary be bigger than £1600?

Thank you for your response.

Disclaimer first, I’m just speaking from acquired knowledge. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Yes, you can buy a house.

Mortgage end age is 65-80. Most lenders cap at 70-75, so you’ll have about 25years to pay back which is good.

Lenders will give you around 4.5 of your annual salary, your expected mortgage is dependent on if your £1,600 is before or after tax… so you can just do the calculations yourself.

You don’t need to use the full £20k on deposit, your deposit will probably be £10k… you can use the remaining £10k on renovations and upgrades as you’ll most likely buy a “not-so-new” house.

I never thought I would say this but I can’t wait to retire and move to Nigeria. I never had that mentality until I visited and thought wow we are slaving here in the UK. If you have your money, you have a property in Nigeria then am pretty sure you are better off after slaving here working for many years, my pension years would be spent in Nigeria in Jesus name!

You know not what you say.

May you never 'witness' Nigeria in Jesus name.

I am dumbfounded to know that there is an advertisement of proof of fund on this travel section. Did Seun approve this?

What is really going on? Is this thing legit now?

In someway you are right about those in airport..... a friend travelled last week using Egypt Airline Lagos to London. The airport checking said she must show yellow fever card yet it not on the airline website. I guess its a way for official to chop money. They charged her 5k to buy the card at the airport or else she can't fly

They just scammed her for no reason

The top age for residential mortgages is retirement age whatever that is at the time of application. Top age for BTL mortgages is as old as one can get as the rent will always cover the mortgage and can be sold off to pay the mortgage (expected repayment vehicle). Otherwise, all correct.
I always advise first home buyers to put down the smallest deposit allowable on what you want to buy. That is most likely the only time, you'll be able to do that! So maximise the utilisation of the cash you have

My mother moved back in June 2021 after over 45 years in the UK/USA. She said she wouldn’t change it for coming back, she lives in a gate place in Ipaja Lagos. She complains but she still prefers it than staying in the UK or America.

Our property gurus in the house, please what is the best explanation for this? A 2bed flat that was sold in 2006 for £120k is now being listed for £105k

I have attached the price history of my buy to let property.

I'm the second owner. The first owner bought the flat brand new and I guess the property was overpriced/over valued as at 2007. New builds are notoriously overpriced, hence why those looking to achieve the best returns in property investment avoid them.

Today, that same flat and others in the block have an open market value of at least 160k and those that have sold their flats recently achieved way above that figure.

I haven't spent a penny on any home improvement apart from painting the walls when a new tenant moves in (I'm blessed to have had 2 longterm tenants in the last 6+years) and changing the original carpets which were off white in colour. grin

My advice - do your research carefully, read the home/valuation report, read about the history of the area, find out if the area is notorious for crime (anti social behavior, vandalism, etc) and find out if the council is planning any redevelopment or rejuvenation around the area (e.g. demolishing houses in that area to build modern properties, etc)
