Has The Qur’an Been Perfectly Preserved? by Abdoolbuster: 7:44pm On Aug 27, 2021
One of the most popular arguments for Islam is what we might call the “Argument from Perfect Preservation,” which claims that, since the Qur’an has been perfectly preserved for nearly fourteen centuries, God must have been miraculously preserving it. This argument is based on a verse of the Qur’an: “We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption)” (15:9).i

After quoting this verse, Muslim apologist Mazhar Kazi comments:

Muslims and non-Muslims both agree that no change has ever occurred in the text of the Qur’an. The above prophecy for the eternal preservation and purity of the Qur’an came true not only for the text of the Qur’an, but also for the most minute details of its punctuation marks as well. . . . It is a miracle of the Qur’an that no change has occurred in a single word, a single [letter of the] alphabet, a single punctuation mark, or a single diacritical mark in the text of the Qur’an during the last fourteen centuries.ii

Kazi’s claim is odd for two reasons. First, it’s certainly no miracle for a book to be preserved for fourteen centuries. The Dead Sea Scrolls, copies of the Bible, and other writings have survived longer than fourteen centuries, so Muslims can hardly appeal to preservation as proof of divine inspiration. Second, it’s simply false to say that the Qur’an has been perfectly preserved. When we turn to the early Muslim sources, we find that entire chapters of the Qur’an have been lost, that large sections of chapters are missing, that individual verses were forgotten, and that words and phrases were changed. Indeed, we know from Muslim reports that Muhammad’s most trusted teachers couldn’t even agree on which chapters were to be included in the Qur’an!

I. A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE QUR’AN

The first Qur’anic revelation came to Muhammad around the year 610. Muhammad delivered many more verses to his scribes and companions for memorization and recording over the next two decades. These verses were written on stalks of palm leaves, bones of dead animals, flat stones, and whatever else Muslims could find. There was no complete manuscript of the Qur’an during this time.

Qur’anic revelation ceased when Muhammad died. Shortly after Muhammad’s death, Caliph Abu Bakr needed to suppress a rebellion, and he sent many huffaz (people who had memorized portions of the Qur’an) to fight at the Battle of Yamama. Many of these huffaz died, and Muslim sources tell us that portions of the Qur’an were lost:

Many (of the passages) of the Qur’an that were sent down were known by those who died on the day of Yamama . . . but they were not known (by those who) survived them, nor were they written down, nor had Abu Bakr, Umar or Uthman (by that time) collected the Qur’an, nor were they found with even one (person) after them.iii

Abu Bakr decided that it was time to gather what remained of the Qur’an in order to prevent more from being lost, and he appointed Zaid ibn Thabit to this task. After Zaid completed his codex around 634 AD, it remained in Abu Bakr’s possession until his death, when it was passed on to Caliph Umar. When Umar died, it was given to Hafsa, a widow of Muhammad.

During Caliph Uthman’s reign, approximately 19 years after the death of Muhammad, disputes arose concerning the correct recitation of the Qur’an. Uthman ordered that Hafsa’s copy of the Qur’an, along with all known textual materials, should be gathered together so that an official version might be compiled. Zaid ibn Thabit, Abdullah bin Az-Zubair, Sa’id bin Al-As, and Abdur-Rahman bin Harith worked diligently to construct a revised text of the Qur’an. When it was finished, “Uthman sent to every Muslim province one copy of what they had copied, and ordered that all the other Qur’anic materials, whether written in fragmentary manuscripts or whole copies, be burnt.”iv The Qur’an we have today is descended from this codex.

Just twisting things as usual. Even famous Christians historians alludes to this as a fact, and the same can not be said of the bible.

The project for the compilation of the Quran as a single document was conceived by Umar Ibn kathaab, the 2nd wrongly guided khalifa. He took this decision after many Muslim soldiers who knew many quranic ayah by heart died in the battle of yamama hence many ayah of the Quran were lost.

Do you accept what your own hadith said or what unknown scholars told you? Do you place the so-called Christan scholars above what Imam Bukhari compiled in your hadith?

How does the death of many huffaz now mean that some verse were forgotten or lost, also like i said when you are ready to learn you know what to do.

The Quran as we have it today was not how it was in the time of Mohammed and according to Abu Bakr, the 1st wrongly guided khalifa, Mohammed never asked them to collect the Quran as a single document. A sahaba may have two ayah, another 1 ayah and some 2 to 3 surah (especially people like Ibn Masud and Ubay). There is no ANY single Muslim that knew ALL the Quran by heart as we have it today before the battle of yamama where many qora of the Quran died.

The idea of compiling the Quran as a religious document was the idea of Omar Ibn kathaab, the 2nd wrongly guided khalifa, afte the battle of yamama. The task was given to Said Ibn thabit for the collection from different secondary and primary sources.

The project was however concluded by the 3rd wrongly guided khalifa, Uthman Ibn Affan. He was responsible for the Quran you have today and authorized its eventual circulation. However, the Quran of Uthman Ibn Affan had no diacritical marks which was a later addition into the Quran.

Some verses of adult breastfeeding were left out after it was assumed to have been eaten by a he-goat, according to Aisha bint Abu Bakr (Sunnah Ibn majjah 1944).

I shouldn't be the one teaching you the metamorphosis of the Quran.

The Quran has not been preserved, that is a lie:

Muhammad died in 632 AD

Abu Bakr the first Caliph ruled for 2 years during which he started the first compilation and he completed it before he died and kept it.

The second caliph Umar ruled for 10 years from 634-644AD and he was in custody of manuscripts until he died after which Hafsa his daughter kept custody of it.

During the rule of Uthman (who ruled 12years after Muhammad had died) that is more than 12 years after the first Quran was compiled. Uthman ruled for 12years so in between those 12 years while he was ruling, people called his attention to the different ways people were reciting the Quran (which has been the norm even when Muhammad was alive and he didn't think of unifying the Quran into one dialect because Muhammad himself said the Quran was revealed to him in 7 different dialects)

As you can see, Muhammad didn't rebuke anyone reciting the Quran in any of the different dialects or ways it was revealed. Muhammad didn't standardize it into out dialect, Muhammad didn't say other dialect of revelation should be burnt. Why did Zaid burn the other manuscripts, why did he give you guys his own Quran which was different from the one Muhammad received?

But Uthman decided to unify the Quran into one standardized version when neither Allah nor Muhammad gave him such Instruction when he was alive.

So Uthman sent for the manuscript with Hafsa

So Uthman then ordered his scribes to write the new Quran in the dialect of the Quraysh and when they were done with their editing and standardization they buried the evidence of their alterations by burning the evidence.

And Muhammad was dead after the final compilation of the Quran was done and Muhammad was not alive to verify what was compiled but those Muhammad said he trusted their memories disagreed with the Quran that was compiled which further confirm that what was compiled was not what Muhammad claimed to have received.

Proof that the Quran is not complete and that it was not perfectly preserved, Ubai's recitation was not included

Apart from Ubai, they didn't compile the recitation of other people with good knowledge

Masud's recitation was not included and to tell you that the Quran compiled was not the original, Masud protested.

"...'Uthman sent to every Muslim province one copy of what they had copied, and ordered that all the other Qur'anic materials, whether written in fragmentary manuscripts or whole copies, be burnt..." Sahih Bukhari 6:61:510

Hence the Quran sent to all provinces were compiled during the reign of Uthman who started ruling 12 years after Muhammad died and ruled for another 12 Years and the compilation and editing was done within his 12 Years of rule, which was 652 A.D.20years after Muhammad had died

Also, as at that 652 A.D. there was no diacritical marks in Arabic language, it only came into existence in 8th century and the 9th century, long after Muhammad had died and long after Uthman had given out his own standardized version of the Quran

The arabic skeletal script is without the diacritical marks and vowelization:
Fathah = ah
Dhammah = oo
Kasrah = ii

None of the above dialect marks existed in the time of the prophet or Uthman in 652 AD and the present day Quran has them

That means nobody in the world has the original Quran with the original language without diacritical marks and vowelizations and that means the Quran compiled is not the same as the one Muhammad received

WHERE IS THE QURAN GIVEN TO MUHAMMAD?

God bless you bro! So I have been deceived on this while that the quran was perfectly preserved.
