Are you serious?Tin can, MM airport and other key federal establishments pay Vat to Lagos govt? That won't ever happen - and Lagos govt can nothing about it. All this VAT noise is just dancing to the gallery ahead of 2023 election. Hahahaha, Wike for president!
Truth is, central collection of Vat is even more cost effective. The only issue is distribution formula- 20% allocated to contribution and whopping 50% to equality. Without resorting to dishing out stupendous bribes to corrupt judges for favourable judgement, sanity should prevail by reviewing the distribution formula, giving more priority to contribution. Simple as ABC!
VAT is just a fraction of taxes collected from those Federal establishments. You need to follow the debate and know how Wike moved ahead to claim it. It was a real brain work. All the figures you are mentioning will not work. To collect all 100% is the thing that will work. Lagos looked at the judgement and they know that states can claim it. There is a loophole Wike's lawyers used to win the case. And FG knows they cannot win it again even let them go to supreme court. The only way FG will reclaim it is to use National Assembly to amend the law. And lawyers have warned them not to try it. As soon as they start, lawyers will take National assembly to court too. It is a well perfected plan. Wike is the brain behind it. And Lagos' eyes opened to it that it is possible. This is law at work. In TinCan and Muritala Muhammed airport, there are other fees and taxes. The only one states want to claim for now is VAT, and many more to come. So, it is the right call to push further. FIRS quickly went to National Assembly to see if they can amend the law, but they are going to meet fire there. That they know it will be fire, FG went to appeal court in Abuja to stop states from collecting it pending the result of appeal case. But lawyers have found loop holes again that states can go ahead. See, States have won this. Nothing FG can do. This is law at work. As soon as Rivers and Lagos start collecting, FG has lost. This is to show us how incompetent Buhari is. He has a useless FIRS boss.

Nothing is impossible. Naija has made you think there are no loopholes to fight the oppressors. Of course, there are. You must just catch the oppressors suddenly when they are relaxed. That's it. Catch, kill, and burn them to ashes when you have the little chance to do so. Lagos will never allow this to slide. Jagaban, the gax collector will use the same strategy he used to box OBJ to corner. And Wike will not be st.upid to refuse help. Lol.

Since states having 100% is what will work, for resource control to work, all states must have 100% control too. Either they take that 100% or they keep suffering. This is why I said there is no need for secession. There should be one Nigeria, but with each state with its destiny. No more Abuja. This is the way forward. If this happens, any state is at the liberty of forming it's own government and nation if it has the power and resources to do it. I guess no state will be that foolish yo embark on such suicide mission task when 100% resource control, system police control, regional military and supreme court control are there.

Hope you feel me.

The question is that why is this happening after Prof Osinbajo's right hand man, Babatunde Fowler was sacked as FIRS number 1? See eh! That Osinbajo guy....all his head is law. This is a brain that can twist law. A man who Jagaban used to box OBJ to stand still from 1999 to 2007. Till date, Obasanjo will never forget how Prof Osinbajo dealt with him. Osinbajo slammed OBJ's lawyers in court back to back. Lagos Sgate was just winning FG in all cases. That was prof at work then. I feared that man when it comes to law. That man? Leave him oooo. Go and ask all his students in UNILAG how prof used to quote laws from head and how he used to give brain tasking assignments to his students. Very lively professor. Very smart. And I am sure he will never say no to his boys from Lagos even at this time. When craze no dey worry am. Him go side with FG and Buhari? That is to say he wants to be deported back to Ogun from Aso Rock. grin Baba will just know how to play his game as he has been playing it since Buhari and his men feel dem get cra.ze. They felt prof will vex and resign. But God was merciful to Nigeria and He used covid 19 take away the brain in Buhari's cabinet. Cos if that Abba Kyari dey alive.... grin ... that genius brain also....eh!

The truth is firs don't have the exclusive Right to collect vat, that's why they rushed to the national Assembly

Stop supporting Wike who is using political radicalism to commit economic gangsterism.

There is no methods Rivers and Lagos States are using to generate VAT that other states cannot use except natural positioning that favours them.

Do you know that if buy telecommunication aircards, you pay VAT, where do you think that VAT is being turn in, that is at the company headquarters. Invariably if you load MTN card in Maiduguri you generate VAT to Lagos State where MTN headquarters is located.
The same goes to other commodities across board. If we continue this way each company will be made to pay VAT on their goods before it is being consumed in each state. Then the more your population on demands of any goods and services the higher your VAT which will inturn favours the north. It will affect cost of goods and services.

Moreover, from statistics the federal government still generate 61% of the entire country"s VAT. Lagos and Rivers State generate 70% of the remaining 39%.

Let us be reasonable and stop thinking northerners are not educated, they are lazy, they are that, they are this. They are not what we think they are.

Some Southerners had already made themselves slaves to the northerners by referring to them as masters, that the only way out is to part away from Nigeria.

Every northerner nowadays is a Muslim and a Fulani, what an irony of someone who claim sophistication of western education.

Na one of the reasons why North is more organised and sophisticated than us.
We asked for resource control, a southerner will say na only the politicians will benefit from the resources. Like is there any law stopping people from being politicians?
The North came out, proposed 3percent to host communities and 30percent of nnpc profits for frontier basins that is 90percent located in their region, an average northerner doesnt benefit from these, but they support all what their elites do. But we in south we r so myopic, we allow sentiments becloud our sense of reasoning.
Wikeis leaving govt in 2023,even if he keeps successor, successor won't be loyal to him forever. Rivers no be Lagos, where one man will decide who becomes the govr, senators and representatives.
Wike won't stand alone and impose these people and even if he does, in a year their loyalty will shift abi drift.
Godfatherism don't last in south south and south east.
Its better my state man controls the resources in my state, even if he likes he can squander the money as he like, than for aboki or someone who isnt a Nigerian to be controlling my state resources.

Lawyers can so much make a simple case unnecessarily complicated.

What stops the judge from stating it clearly in unambiguous language like:

" I hereby order that River State and any other state should stop the process of collecting VAT until the appeal is determined."

The appeal court was very careful because , as a separate arm of government, it has no powers to stop another arm of government from functioning appropriately. The legislative arm enacted VAT law in ordinary course of it's statutory right, which is never subject to legal dispute.

In as much as Wike dies not collect VAT based on FHC judgement, but on the basis of rightly enacted VAT law, the status quo becomes academic exercise.

Lagos and Rivers states are smarter. VAT law subsists.

Biafra is here!

God bless you. I have said it before that more revenue does not necessarily translate to better service delivery. Imagine, Wike is wasting hundreds of millions all over the place but is refusing to pay pension and gratuities to elderly people who served the state all their youthful years and are now helpless!
On VAT, many people are being misled into thinking only northern states will suffer if central collection by FIRS is stopped. But that's far from the truth. FG will immediately rake in over 50% of the present collection by taking all of collection on imports. At present there is only one percentage point difference between rivers(6%) and kano (5%) contribution to Vat collection. Kano, kaduna and fct contribution is more than that of SE states combined.
Wike is just dancing to the gallery.

You are liar. Kano is marginally ahead of Anambra and Enugu in internally generated revenue. Abia is not doing badly. The southeast is not afraid of the new VAT law. it's you northern folks running helter skelter because you know your feeding bottle is about to be taken away from you. Are you saying the population we talk about in the north is a fake one? How can you compare somebody whose culture and religion permits polygamy and limitless number of children to one who practice celibacy and monogamy in population.

Ask a doctor friend to tell you the statistics of child birth across Kano hospitals in a month despite majority in villages doesn't attend hospitals.

Rivers and Lagos States are just collection cetres of VAT.

If it is sophistication and western education that enhance VAT, why is Oyo state with its size but cannot generate VAT like Lagos?

From available data, you will see Ogun state comes third because of its proximity to Lagos. Infact some part of Lagos is just Ogun.

What we see in Lagos and Rivers States is just 'headquarters effect' not anything extra-ordinary, Excellency, sophistication or civilization.

From your comment you obviously lack the intelligence to analyze what VAT is. You may be polygamous, so are Arab countries yet their population is lower than the fake population of a lot of Northern states. Which have high death rates from infant mortality, mothers dying at child birth, diseases from bad healthcare and terrorism.

Ogun state has high VAT because their population is high due to proximity to Lagos. And they attract a lot of FDI too. This brings revenue to the state. Oyo is low because of less FDI and inadequate enforcement on tax or business registrations.

Well I don't know your level of education but I know you are educated from your comments.
IGR is different from VAT. The operational word here is "value added" meaning there is incidence of tax when value is being added to goods and services. Who actually pays VAT? It is the last consumer. Therefore that Kano for example doesn't have enough companies that produced her goods and services needed for her population will only affects her IGR. But for VAT, it depends on the overall goods and services her population consumes irrespective of where the producer of that goods and services resides in that sovereignty.

FDI attracts jobs, which attracts workers into the state or provides employment which increases purchasing power, which enables businesses to be opened… also affects VAT collection in the state. Everything is interconnected.

If every State stands alone, you will realise that your bragging is on thin air. We have clearly seen that Lagos, Abuja, Rivers, Kano lead the pack.
If we carry out a simple VAT fertility you will see that your State is VAT impotent....and your much touted beer VAT are blank shots.
Na just gum body dey make una think say your state dey fertile.

My State of Origin is Ogun State, but I have been in Lagos since birth just like most Nigerians because our States' governors are useless and have refused to develop our States.

Mind you, Ogun State real IGR definitely surpasses any Almajari State. I am sure you know this.

We say, we no want you Almajaris again. You no get shame? Go and do you own and let us do our own. Go and continue destroying Beers while you are all on Codeine, Tramadol, Dry and Wet Gin, Refnol, Weed, e.t.c. continue your Sharia in the North, let we Yoruba Muslims practice our Islam the way we like. Or his Prophet Mohammed (SAW) your father's child or is Allah from your village. We say, leave us alone.
