The WWE name also refers to the professional wrestling promotion itself, founded in the 1950s as the Capitol Wrestling Corporation. It is the largest wrestling promotion in the world, holding over 500 events a year, with the roster primarily divided up into three globally traveling brands, and is available to about 36 million viewers in more than 150 countries. Hailing from the wilds of Uganda, Kamala, whose real name is James Harris, was one of the most savage and terrifying Superstars sports-entertainment has ever seen.

In 1982, Harris was offered a job at the Continental Wrestling Association by Lawler, who was a promoter at the time. The character of Kimala (later changed to Kamala) — who was billed from Uganda — was then developed by Harris, Lawler and CWA founder Jerry Jarrett.
After wrestling for organizations like CWA, Mid-South Wrestling and World Class Championship Wrestling, Harris made his WWF debut as Kamala in 1984 and began feuding with the likes of Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant.
Throughout the ’80s and early ’90s, Harris left and returned to WWF multiple times, wrestling for other promotions in the interim. He briefly performed for WCW in 1995 (while he was semi-retired) and was even the one who suggested Hulk Hogan join the company.
Harris went on to make various appearances as Kamala for WWF/WWE in the 2000s. His final WWE appearance came in 2006, though he continued working the independent circuit until 2010.

According to his wife, Adam wanted to wrestle from the age of 10. A school drop-out, Leppan ran away from home when he was 14, then spent two years living on the streets and in abandoned buildings. Leppan later described that he had been "spiraling out of control" during that period, which was full of violence and alcohol, and only the thought of becoming a wrestler had helped him escape. Leppan also said that he had rejected being part of a family despite having loving parents. Leppan's mother later successfully managed to entice Leppan to return home to Johannesburg from Durban with the prospect of beginning wrestling classes.

Crews did not exactly have it easy growing up; he went to a military high school, and because things were so difficult there, he threw himself into the world of sports as an escape. He excelled in soccer, football, track and field, and, of course, wrestling.“Sports were my outlet and a way to get away from military life,” he said. “I wanted to play all year long. Athletics have always been my life. I didn’t want any point in time where I wasn’t doing something.”Crews also has a background in gymnastics, which he said has stayed with him over the years and which influences his wrestling style a bit. He was immediately signed and began performing for them and their parent company and affiliates, Dragon Gate, Evolve and Full Impact Pro.Two months into his Dragon Gate run, he made his debut in Japan, during an event in which he defeated Kotoka and became a Blood Warrior. Crews credits this Japan trip with helping to launch his career and to make him well-known in wrestling circles.
After leaving Dragon Gate, Apollo Crews participated in the WWE’s tryout camp in October 2014. A few months later, it was announced that he would be officially joining NXT. Crews made his debut on an episode of NXT broadcast on May 6, 2015.In his first televised match, Crews defeated Tye Dillinger at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn. His first major rivalry was with Baron Corbin, who attacked Crews after Crews had eliminated him during a battle royal. This lead up to a match in which Corbin defeated Crews.Another feud he had at NXT was with Elias Samson, although this time Crews was able to emerge victorious in their match.

Giant Kamala is not Ugandan. He was an American who took up this ringname and character that portrayed Africans as savages for the entertainment of ignorant wrestling public.
