First Bank Account Stolen by mbano(m): 11:32pm On Dec 15, 2021
A family friend called sobbing that all her money in first bank had been stolen without her knowledge. This happened this evening in Ado , Ajah Lagos. She said she went to use the Access Bank ATM machine at Ado Road , Ajah on her way from work. She wanted to make some withdrawals using the Access Bank ATM machine with her First Bank card. The machine swallowed her card. She waited for close to two minutes and the card did not pop out. Less than 20 minutes as she got home , she started receiving alerts, withdrawal alerts, transfer alerts on her phone. By the time she could get the first bank code to block the account, all her money has disappeared! Just like that in a twinkle. She said the Access Bank ATM machine is a stand-alone machine, that is, it is not located within Access Bank building. Meanwhile she also said her daily withdrawal limit from her First Bank Account is set at a limit of N100k. But as she spoke over a million has been withdrawn and she has just less than N200. left in the account.
Please guys, what does she do? These are all her life's savings and project money. What could have gone wrong?
Is it possible to exceed your daily limit without the knowledge of your bank? Please help.
I know most of those stand-alone ATM machines do not have security men on watch. Moreso not in a volatile area like Ado, in Ajah.
Please help. This is really sad.

This is sad.

Report to your bank, First Bank.

This is the work of some evil genius!

They comprised your card, and were able to change your daily withdrawal settings, and then proceed to withdraw almost all your cash.

May God ambush them tonight, and get them caught!

May they pay to the last kobo!

This is the last fraud they will ever imagine to perpetrate!

Una no dey hear. No dey use useless banks like access bank, gtb, opay, wema , zenith, they are prone to hacking, stupid bank charges and life savings being wiped. The only solution here is to remove your money and get a union bank or standard chartered. Simple banks like that.

Or, have you ever heard complaints about them?
Anything access bank, run!!

Nigerians and telling stories in a way that will exonerate them from guilt.

NO.

Access Bank ATM did not swallow her card. There was obviously a Network glitch. Card delayed in coming out.

By the time card was ejected, your aunty has gotten home (red flag)

Secondly, she was not very careful in inputing her pin (someone was eye phishing her pin). So when the card came out it was easier to input pin and make withdrawals.

PREVENTION

In the event of atm glitches or delays. Always wait till the ATM card till shows the green sign (ready to accept card) to be sure ATM has held onto your card. If not, leaving before that is a foolish decision.

Input your pin like a village man/woman by covering the numerical buttons with your left hand and pressing with the right one.

Don't allow anyone stand suspiciously close to you. Scan the ATM machine for any camera or small objects which are not already a part of it. Even strange looking cctv cameras close to the machine is a red flag.

The USSD code for blocking accounts is *bank code*911#
Does your aunty have any cognitive problems? Because dialling that code is not a very difficult task. Or she's one of those "do you know how much I have" people who think their money is too much for ussd codes?

Either way, sorry for her loss.

The card is all they needs, they don't even need her pin to remove the money in it.

It can't be possible, PIN must be used to validate transaction with ATM Card.

They normally use such card to buy something online and some sites don't need OTP nor pin to make a purchase. That is why cards have Security.

Having read all your contributions ,one is now better informed. Obviously, she shouldn't have left without the network showing green , because it's very obvious that the card later popped out , by then she had left.
This morning she has made some reports. Access Bank did not see her card, indicating that the card later popped out.
At First Bank she wrote a letter of Complaint and from initial investigation , it was discovered that most of the transactions were made via transfer. The transfers were made to some companies not individuals. Infact about N500k was traced to a particular company account and First Bank immediately placed a restriction on the account. However , to her consternation few hours after , she got a debit alert on the N500k. Is this not funny? N20k was withdrawn five times using the card while the rest were transfers to companies accounts. All these happened within hours late evening . Totally from her print out over a million naira was withdrawn or transfered from the account. At least investigation is still ongoing. I just hope the monies will be traced and returned so that she won't have a bleak Christmas. But definitely, lessons have been learnt.

There is been a story my nephew called my attention to via voice call as regard a number 0808 811 7832 calling to say nothing but to chuckle, fizzle away, to the extent of raising unnecessary threat, describing themselves as SCAMMER, citing frivolous cause about him despite the caller not knowing his identity/gender. He said they even sounded like a teen(15-21 years of age sad)
Could there be anyone who could kindly help us with revealing the details of this number 0808 811 7832 as truecaller isntpls before we decide on how to curtail this

Block the number and have your peace.

Better still, report to the NPF and part with N30,000

You must be a learner. Only 3d payment gateways need that otp and pin thrash, 2d payment gateways don't need them and that's what card stealers use. They authenticate the transaction with the card čvv at the back. Boom you see debit alert.

It is common knowledge that First Bank Nigeria is owned, operated, and staffed by unrepentant criminals who will not hesitate to deploy every trick in the book to loot customers' accounts.

The most common bank account drainage technique used by First Bank staff members is to buy phone credit using the accounts of unsuspecting customers, at the rate of 1000 naira per minute, until that account has been completely emptied. this technique is ALWAYS carried out at night after working hours so that the operation can be completed before any complaint can be lodged when the next day's working hours commence.

Bank with First Bank at your mortal peril. You have been warned.

There is a magnetic component in your ATM card that will drag your card inside the ATM machine when you slot it in.Then you should wait for a while for you card to be read by the ATM so that you can enter your password. If this doesn't happen press cancel on the ATM keyboard for it to bring out your card. That is how it works.
