Good evening to everyone in the house.

Today my cousin sister schooling at uniben just called me this afternoon and was crying on phone that someone just scammed her on WhatsApp.

According to her,she said that she meet the girl on a WhatsApp group and the girl convinced her that there is an investment scheme that she will invest 5000 to get 10000 within 30 minutes.

Because of her naivety, she sent the money to the girl, the girl later told her that the one of 5k is no longer available that the remaining slot available to invest is 10k, so she told her to send extra 5k to balance it. She still sent the money to her.

After everything has been done, she said that my sister must send extra 7k to claim her 45k.
She still sent the money to the girl hoping that she will get the money.

Immediately she sent sent her the money, she started giving my sister excuses and later blocked her on WhatsApp.

Is there any hope that if i report the account to the bank for fraudulent activity.
Can the money be recovered or should i just tell her to forget It and move on?
she has sent me all their chats and evidences.

Moderators should help me and push it front to page.

Your sister don looseguard
Nor be say she really be mumu
Just that naturally Most females are easily hypnotised, spellbind, beguiled and magnetized

That is why I always advise we all should constantly enlighten our female relatives on the need to mount thier guard...if possible synchronise the email link to their bank account to your own device for quick response and notification...so you can quickly bring to thier notice and question them why the sudden debit alert

I had the same issue with my younger brother last month. 100 level student at Delsu.

Someone told him he won 300K+ on betnaija and he needs to pay money to get it.

My foolish brother kept transferring money to him till it reached 25K. The guy was even telling him to go borrow more money till e reach 40K before he will send the 330K to him.

First your sister is an idiot.

Secondly as to how to recover your money since you have the chat forget it banks attitude support Yahoo boys in Nigeria.

I will give you one instance that happened to me.
I do pos business and I mistakely sent N10,200 to the account details below on 22/1/2022

The account details is
Name: Folajaye Motunrayo iyabo
Bank:Firstbank
Account number:3067442714

I went to firstbank to help me refund the money, they directed me to moniepoint since I m their agent, according to them it is the mobile money company moneypoint that can help me request for refund of the money.

I sent mail to moniepoint support about the issue and the reply me that they have logging my complain and that the money will be refund on 3 conditions:

1. The receiver must be aware
2.Firstbank have the discretion to refund the money or not.
3. Subject to the availability of fund in the account I wrongly send it to.

Since then I have been messenging firstbank and moniepoint how far they have resolved about my issue but they don't reply .

So therefore if they can do that to me that means they can do similar thing to any person who sent money to another person account either wrongly or otherwise.

I was thinking they will flag the account or recover the money from the receiver accounts because all his or her account are tie to bvn but they didn't do that.

So just move on or use the same system to fraud another person you will not be searched for.
I now know that if someone do local scam bank will not do anything over the fraudulent person.

It is a shame

Nairaland is the worst place to seek for help or advice. It's filled with small kids with phone or adults with IQs below sea level, frustrated beings left right and center.

Yes his cousin wasn't smart enough, that has already been established, but what next, how do you stop this scammers from scamming the next person, that should be the focus of this tread... But intellectual minds are mostly lacking on this forum now (unlike when nairaland newly started).

OP let your sister make a report to the police and also report the account to the bank as well.

If the majority youths on nairaland are what would determine Nigeria's future, men! The country is inescapably doomed.

I guess she's very young.

Although some old folks will still fall for this.

Many of us blaming her and insulting her are not better than her.

Because, if you did MMM or Ultimate cycle and the likes...

Then I see no reason why you think you're better.

Most of us were once a victim of scam.

But thank God we moved on and didn't allow it to affect us.

The truth is...

All she needs is a little enlightment that's all.

Educate her that you make money from hardwork and smart work.

Any business you don't have to do anything but promises outrageous gains in minutes is a scam.

Also tell her to learn a high-income skill or a business.

And before she graduates...

She would mastered such a skill. Be it Copywriting, web designing, Facebook advertising, google advertising...

Or a business like ecommerce or affiliate marketing or amazon book publishing.

Within 6months she can start milking if she put in the necessary effort.

I remember how I started affiliate marketing in May last year after buying a course.

Today, the rest is history with 46 students under me who I now mentor.

Most times all you need is a step.

Ponzi schemes which people think is the short cut to wealth is always the longest.

I hope this helps.

If you're interested in knowing more about affiliate marketing. You can send a DM.

She can go to her bank and write a letter that she transferred the monies to the account in error. A Lien will be placed on that money in the scammer's account, though it will not be sent back to your cousin, the scammer will not have access to it, except she want to send it back to ur cousin.

Any money sent to another person account is difficult to retrieve that I have known now from the experience I m facing.
So even if you go there with the chat they will treat it without seriousness.
