What is your rear view mirror for? A reverse cam should only show you how close your bumper is to another object Viking07 airsaylongcome

Will the rear view and wing mirrors give you a view of your blindspots? Surely you got to take a glance at the areas where the mirrors don't cover. No?

airsaylongcome blindspots come into play when you are trying to look at your 3 or 9 oclock, but if its for your entire back you should be able to view everything between your 3 mirrors maybe except down below your boot where a rev cam should take care of.

Bros there are blind spots the side mirrors don’t cover. Please look back when reversing unless you’ve got a reverse camera installed.
You’re a learner.

By the way, so you rely on the cam more than the mirrors.

When you get there u will be tested. Don't hop into the car and start driving when given d key.

Open d bonnet and check d fluids, oil, radiator fluid, gear oil confirm they all gauged before starting the vehicle. While engine is steaming check d wipers and allow engine to steam a while before driving

You will fail the test if you hop in and start driving

I hope you have a driving license

Also check d Tyres. It shows you are an observant driver

Ur contribution is fine but some company dont allow opening of bonnet to check anything e.g BNL in Abuja. I worked with them some years and that is one of their standard.

Perfect.

In addition, put on your seat belts and adjust your side mirrors and internal mirror before driving.

Also make sure to inquire if the business has a speed limit. NLNG for example has a speed limit of 20km/driving in Bonny! Breach that speed limit by 1km/hr and the command and control centre gets a notification. They also had limits for take-off speed and braking speed.

OP, also ensure that all occupants of the vehicle are wearing their seat belts before you drive off. ALL OCCUPANTS including those in the back seat

[quote author=Revolution2022 post=110824893] It's not all potential employers that have time for all this protocol. The driving test I have been to was that,an expert driver would enter the car with me and watch whether I would first adjust the mirror, wear my seatbelt adjust the seat, shift gear to neutral, and release the handbrake before I start the car.Another test is reverse backwards. Most learners can't reverse.[/quote
Correct! He must also learn how some of these cars are operated e.g Manual KIA(RIO) has 6 gears n ll not start except u press d clutch while starting.

Naija English. I know I am being pedantic here but there's nothing like reverse back

Like you said in your subsequent sentence, it's simply "reverse"

Its called the walkaround check then assesment, its more like a practical driving test which unfortunately is not conducted in Nigeria before issuing full licence in any category. They may equally test your knowledge of primary and secondary controls of the vehicle. And don't forget, depending on the experience of who is assessing you, you could be asked some questions on rules of the road. Good write up and advise there.

Speed limits are clearly stated on the entry of each road conspicuously, so he has to watch out for it and not ask for it. I know in Nigeria things are the opposite way

His advice doesn't sound unprofessional. Most accidents on motorways occur as a result of ignoring blindspot. (blindspot is defined as a region in which an object is close to your vehicle and cannot be seen in the side and rear view mirrors) A cyclist, motorcycle or car could be in your blindspot and you pay great attention when switching lanes, turning or at roundabouts. In some advanced countries, if you don't pay attention to blindspots during a practical driving test, you have already failed

By the way, so you rely on the cam more than the mirrors.

Relying on camera and mirrors during reversing is good, but for cars you are expected to watch over both shoulders all through the process of reversing while joggling views between the driving mirrors. You are expected to stop the reverse maneuver if any person, car or cyclist comes in view and wait for them to pass before you proceed . For trucks you are allowed to use side mirrors and cameras and if possible look out of ur window or jump down from the truck if need be

I got ur points clearly but u mean an object could b as close to ur car as explained by u n u wont notice/see it before entering ur car dt will warrant u looking back instead of using d mirror. So is it more professional to look back than using d mirror?
Re: What To Expect At A Driving Job Interview by ExpressBooking(m): 7:46pm On Mar 07, 2022
MrJames007:
Of course.

I actually used to think i was a great driver having drove for 17 years in Nigeria and travelled to almost everywhere in Nigeria without an incident or accident. Not until I relocated and passed through the rigorous process of being an Articulated truck driver, i began to see driving differently and i understood what safe driving is.
I got to know the difference between moving a vehicle from one point to another and safely driving a vehicle. As a matter of facts I get scared to drive whenever am back home and most people I see are just vehicle movers. Only a handful of drivers out there.
Our government needs to actually revisit the road safety act and driving licencing procedure. Also if possible go a long way to see if they can retrain and recertify a lot of drivers already with licence. It's gonna be cost intensive and albeit proper marking of the roads and proper road signs too.

The benefits of the above will make Nigerian truck and bus driving licence holders be recognised for direct licence exchange with some countries and help a lot of people get to greener pastures as there is serious shortage of truck and bus drivers in the developed countries

In split seconds while u are reversing and looking on ur left mirror, something could appear on ur right side and already in ur blinds pot in that split second. Your mirror won't see it, but a little look over ur shoulder shows u that.

Secondly it could be a moving car scenario, so u could be on the road driving and not necessarily starting off from a rest position

In which Nigeria do you see speed limits conspicuously displayed? Same Nigeria where people don't know what a Blue Road sign means? I specifically mentioned NLNG because they have driving staff in Lagos who MUST drive no faster than 40km/h irrespective of the mad driving in Lagos. And correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not sure I have seen a speed limit sign on Lekki-Epe or 3rd Mainland. Person wey ask no dey loss

The Federal Road Safety are not doing a good job. I see so many people talking about NOT LOOKING BACK when reversing shocked shocked.

The standard practice is to always look around, and not just using your mirrors, but constantly glancing around and also using the mirrors for the manoeuvre in order to cover the BLINDSPOTS. But OP do what works in Nigeria, it seems the opposite is the case and may be that's what the interviewer will be expecting from you.

Please, argue with a prove. I am currently undergoing driving lessons here in the UK, even after driving for years in Naija. There are alot of things we do wrongly.
