Use Uber or Bolt guy. A vehicle comes with great responsibility. I haven't owned a vehicle even though I can afford it. I can not do fuel, mechanic or road rage madness. I am too lazy for that mehn....
So how do you move around? Uber? Or you enter bus and bike. Isn't that more stressful and expensive?

So I'm currently in 300 level with a plan to leave the country immediately after my NYSC.
Since I'm studying a 4 year course in a private uni,I have about 3 years more in this country.

I wish to get a car with a budget of 3.5 to 3.8 million naira.
Due to the 3 years duration coupled with police harassing young car owners.

Is a car really worth buying now or I should jejely wait till I move??

I need inputs please.

Well with the way money lose value over here, I will advise you buy a car for ubar with the driver coming to pick and drop you when you need him to. By so doing you will be in business while enjoying your relative comfort and at the same time, an employer of labour. Remember you can tell the driver not to work on specific day of the week. e.g Sundays

A car is suppose to aid mobility and generally make your life easier. Some people like suffer and trekking, if you’re in that group, a car will look like luxury to you .

A car doesn't look like a luxury to me.

You didn't put my metrics into consideration.
1.I have only 3 years more in the country.
2.Police wahala.

3 years is still a long time so a car might be good for you. But do not spend so much on cars since you intend on leaving the country soon. However, I will advise that you get cheaper car that will put you under the radar think something like a modern version of Toyota Sienna (avoid SUVs and good looking sedans). Hatchbacks such as Volkswagen golf may be considered as student car and won't draw too much attention.

If your moni don finish you no go talk....which one be say "car na luxury".

300L student? Get a toks corolla with no added frills or pimping.
Budget 20k monthly for fuel costs depending on how far your daily commute is.
Budget 200k/year for the first 2 years for repairs (be sure to do comprehensive insurance as well).
Be disciplined with the car. No excesses, at times leave the car back home for really unnecessary trips.
Register with Uber, Bolt etc. (Half a weekend's work can get you a weeks worth of fuel to use if you know what I mean).
Make sure your papers are always up to date. Don't ever "borrow" friends the car for whatever reason.

It isn't a luxury unless you treat it as such. Being disciplined with using the car will definitely improve your quality of life and the opportunities within your reach in the long run. I can get into my car at 5:30 am in Lagos, be in Ibadan by 8:00 am and back in Lagos by 12:30 pm having achieved my aim in relative comfort without my neighbors having inkling as to what has transpired.

Thank you very much.

1.Actually,I work and earn by myself.I don't dress like yahoo boys and I have this cool gentle look because I am indeed gentle grin
2.I don't drink to stupor. If I drink, I'll be wise enough not to drive.
3.No I don't show off.I need it for easy mobility.
I'm tired of bus conductors shouting "four four per row" in a heated bus filled with people who smell nice and those who don't.I like comfort.
you're not bouyant enough. You enter bus, and then you want to buy a car. Before I bought my first car, I paid a personal Keke driver 35k every month for 4 months, do you know the last time I entered bus. That's was when I knew I needed a car, because I can afford to fuel my tanks with 10 k three good times in a month. and save myself the remaining 5k and collect AC and comfort. If you don't have upto 5milluon in your account or you job gives you not less than 500k a month, then you don't need a car.

I will only advice you to get those camrybig yansh or buy corolla. You can't maintain luxury now

Car is a necessity; not a luxury.

If you feel the need to make use of a car in your daily activity, and you can afford it, I don't see why you are still waiting to get that car.

Many young guys who own a car are termed yahoo boys by police just to extort them.I don't have time to be dragging with them.I no like long talks.

Imagine them seeing a personal and a business email on your phone. They will say having two emails means you're a fraudster.

It's those driving Camry, Lexus and Benz police disturb.

Buy Highlander, 4Runner, Prado, RAV4, CRV, Civic, Tacoma/Hilux, police won't disturb you.

If I have no intention to leave the country yet, I'll buy it straight away.

All I'm asking is "is buying a car for just a 3 year duration worth it?".
In 2 years time like you said, I'll only have 1 year more in Nigeria and it won't be worth it.

There are several.factors to consider if it is worth buying a car..... factors that we do not know.... that only you know. Should a lady going somewhere ask what she should wear.... can you advise her without knowing the occasion? Buy a gown... just above the ankles... only to find out later she was going to a pool party. Same thing. How far do you live from school?... is it that difficult to in getting transportation to and from?... do you over around a lot that require you to be using taxi/bus? .... do you be hauling loads often? .... do you have to be dropping off and picking up siblings?... or will having a car make it easier for them to get to school and wherever?.... is your neighbourhood a safe one?... are they often be stealing cars?... or parts? ... do Police be setting up extortion points? .... would you be using the car for private use only?.... or intend to use it as a taxi? ..... what about the condition of roads in your area?... are you in Aba? .....these are some of the factors that need to be considered and we know none of these. Why would you then expect us to advise you?

Young man, get yourself a cat. But make sure it's not the luxury kind. You can get a Camry (Tiny light), since you're considering ease of mobility and not for flaunting. Or you can get yourself Corolla.

3yeaes is too long to trek the corners of this country. E too hot abeg. Get a car!

Patapata you no spend pass 2.5.

I am over 30, I drive a Lexus Rx300 and I have never been harassed by police since I got my car in 2020, even though I look like a 25year old.

Just get the fvcking car!

So far, no one has bothered to ask how a student got 3.5m for a car.

Tomorrow, when these same people hear about a child missing or a girl killed in a hotel with missing parts, they'll start screaming and cursing.

What a useless, hypocritical people!

I forgot to ask if you do have a driving licence. Most Nigerians don't have driving licence yet they buy cars. Some that have hardly had any driving lessons and road safety training. That is why nigerian roads are like suicide highways.

HAVING DRIVING LICENCE IN NIGERIA IS PRIMARILY TO AVAOID POLICE EXTORION AND NOT EXACTLY TO KNOW HOW TO DRIVE SAFELY OR FOLLOW THE HIGHWAY RULES AND CODES BECAUSE THERE ARE NONE.
