luzoma:

I created Nairalive, no cms, no pluggin whatsoever and have been working on it ever since Feb. 2010.
Currently there are close to 5000 registered members and an average of 1000 unique visitors daily.
The link is on my signature.

One thing i cannot just stop complementing is how neat your site is. Havent seen such a neat site on NL before SUPER KUDOS!

Caramba. What did you do? Why the hell would anyone in his right mind ban you?

Madre De Dios - Shhh - Dont mention i was banned

Yes, it is very true - @omo_to_dun you should not generalize. Some of my past projects are quite
fantastic - and even some recent ones - but for security purposes, i cannot announce them in
public or even dare put them on my portfolio.

And yes, i was waiting for the Mr Nairalive to come and speak for himself. We have some other
webmasters here (that are still my Ogas anytime in coding - but they dont come out to make
noise like most of us)

Nope it is no joke:

The disruption of business started from:
1. Seun: He made censorship for nairaland because of google
Me: I bypassed spambot censorship - Ban - Gbam
2. Me: I made the nairaland spam killer
Easiest way still - to bypass the stupid spam bot
Seun: He asked me to disable it, so i did (then)
3. Seun: He reduced the views of all posts on nairaland
to half except his post
Me: I wrote a script that can counter that nonsense

One positive thing here is that:
Seun has tried his best to send me off nairaland permanently for a long time,
he studied for a long time - the method i used for spamming nairaland with fake
IDs, and was able to block it.
Not knowing that i have other methods in store (so in a way, he sees me as some
kinda threat).

Result: Permanent Ban
Re: Creating A New Face For Nl by dhtml7(m): 3:59pm On Sep 03, 2011
lest i forget, i made a script that allows you to authenticate a user
on an external site using nairaland account details https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-743082.0.html

I still dont know his reaction to that. . . .

@omo_to_dun, most of my best projects cannot be shown off easily online for some reasons.

I don't understand something about this thread. The title says "Creating a new face for NL".  and as interesting as the posts are so far, I can't really get why you all jumped into conclusion that something had to be done to it from back-end. talking about Cms, framework, and stuffs. The first point of call in any redesign is to ask "What exactly is wrong with the current system?". That's the problem and as designers/developers, what we do is solve problems. So, we have identify what is it that Nairaland lacks and (or) needs to remove and so on.

I'm not a back-end developer or a web Security expert. But I know Nairaland had issues with the Spambot stuff and that i guess has been relatively resolved. In my own opinion and as the thread title suggests, what Nairaland needs is a refined "Face". The issue it needs to resolve is more in the front-end than the backend. the layout of nairaland is still built using "Tables" which is so 1999. though, this has not in any way affected its performance but getting better is never a bad idea and using TABLES has no excuse these days. Also, in terms of information architecture, Nairaland needs to be structured in such a way that things are placed in the right places and ordered in the right manner. For instance, USERS' birthday needs to be structured in a way that people would actually want to be interested in greeting others when its their date (this gesture/interaction might not sound necessary but it is very important on a site that thrives on user-generated contents. it makes it come alive more!!!!). Also and very importantly, the search button has no reason to be at the bottom. It absolutely has no excuse for that. this and a lot needs to be dotted out before talking about the solutions.

Just my take. Thanks.

i agree with you. but some for these changes must need some back-end modification to achieve best performance (ajaxifying some parts) , i can remember one of my intranet web projects that i continue to add snippets of codes again and again and eventually the code became like a 100miles round-about which was not too good in performance and code maintenance even though the goods where achieved.

Good idea as the Topic Says; Creating A New Face For NL

It is not necessary to create Nairaland from the the base, this is Virtualization it can be control any way.
Creating NL from the base will take a very long Period of time, instead if that Let the Forum Take a new look, i mean new color, theme, and new Gadget should be added (like IRC, Shoutbot etc).
Nairaland only have problem of interface even i myself am tired if the Traditional Look

Take a look at this website Please Don't SPAM it Nigeria IP will get BAN

www.rohitab.com => Main Page

www.rohitab.com/discuss/ => Its Forum

irc.rohitab.com/ => Its IRC chat

The Main Page will be useful for those who like the Hot Topics of the NL Home Page, while other stuff will like the IRC and shout Box will benefit the Webmaster in terms of Ads.

I join the Visit the Forum first in 2008/2009 by 2010 ending it has take on a new look. SO to my Own suggestion Having what i suggest above will be Quick and Nice, also this Native Board should be reserve for those who still like the Traditional Nairaland

Regard

@ *dthml or dthml or ?dhtml or ★dhtml or or . . . (Boy, this sooooo not cool!)
Please what are the security reasons behind why you can't expose some info here? Will you be arrested or something?
Re: Creating A New Face For Nl by sweetpawn1: 10:03am On Oct 06, 2011
Saw your nairaland connect thingy - Nice!
But I think you will get banned like some 20 more times for that! Tried to do a similar thing when I created this a nairaland desktop chat app.

Despite every body saying its was cool I got banned faster than you could say "Santa Maria!"

Hey, where do you get inspiration for all your user names? Do you have a script that auto generate dhtmls for you?So you CLONE yourself with code? Coooool!
