I don't think so. Just on a small scale level and sold as a refreshing drink.
Why I respect them is 'cause they grow most of the foods we eat in Nigeria.

Nigerians are hardly innovative, but they're good at stealing and perfecting other's ideas. cheesy

There was one groundnut product that was made in Ghana, it was so simple, I wondered why no one ever thought of that idea. (It's like groundnut chinchin)
The product was brought to Nigeria and people loved it so much and were buying it.

Prior to then, Nigerians only just basically roasted and poorly packed their groundnuts in empty old bottles or nylons, but when they saw that that product was selling out fast, they started producing it in Nigeria and selling some at a cheaper price to compete with the one from Ghana.

Ghana has substantial Hausa speakers having same/similar culture with the northerners.

There is a groundnut product here called Kantun Ghana, named after Ghana apparently. I can't tell if it originates from there. But northerners customarily attributes/credits the sources/bearers. Like Dan Anacha, a yam specie they got from Onitsha, hence the name Dan (son of/from) Anacha (Onitsha).

Attached are some groundnut products very common in the north. All have existed for eons.

1 - Kantun Ghana
2 - Kaukau/Badda Kobo/Hallaka Kobo
3 - Garnet
4 - Mitmis

There is also crunchy Kulikuli, Pinot cincin (homemade burgers peanut snack), steamed-dried shelled groundnut e.t.c

Is the milk widely available in the North?? undecided

It's easy to make. Wash and soak overnight. Blend with dates and coconuts (if you like the flavor). You can add cloves. Sieve out the milk. Yummy!

Modified
You need a powerful blender for this.

I guess the preservation and the packaging are the missing elements. To market it in the South (and even export it outside the country), it has to be well preserved so that it will last long enough. And it has to be packaged and labeled well enough to appeal to skeptics.

The ones produced in Lagos are available in some Supermarkets. Well packaged. Different flavors too.

That may be easy for you but not for everyone. I would rather pick up a bottle of the already prepared milk at the store abeg! grin

Wow! I didn't know that. Do you have a picture or a brand name I can look up? We should be exporting that to the US, and Canada. I figured these countries love products made from ingredients that aren't home grown.

@bolded: come to think of it, all of us say "they" when referring to Nigerians and I guess that's why nothing is happening.
It'll take someone to go out of thier way to produce, preserve, package and market the milk. The person and the farmers will become rich and consumers will be happy. I've not had the milk but I can already tell how awesome it would be. cheesy

The truth is, I don't really know what our problem is in Nigeria. cheesy
Raw materials are there but we're not making the most of them.

That is the normal kunu made with millet or something

The other type is kunu Aya

Aya means tiger nuts

So there are two types of kunnu
The one u drank (very common) and kunu Aya

Common one you mentioned is called kunnu sakki.

I prefer chewing on the fresh ones. The dry ones are usually too strong to chew.

The few times I had kunu... I don't recall tasting tiger nuts at all. undecided

For kunu aya, tiger nut and debinu as well as coconut are the three ingredients in most cases. Some people add different fruits to make it richer too.

If you want you buy, will be cheaper in the market since most pushing around get it from the said market. You buy the dates(dry ones),coconut and then the dried tiger nuts. Just as she said, soak, blend and sieve. Refrigerate immediately cause it spoils easily.

Of course.
Kunu is a general name. Then attached to the "Kunu" are names of the source.

For example, Kunu jeda, is Kunu made from groundnuts.
I hope you are not referring to the raw cow milk that Fulani women do sell...that they usually stir it before pouring a portion into small plates for their customers, especially in the camps. That one is not Kunu. I have forgotten the name.

Fura di Nunu, something like that lol

I'd rather moderately have full cream milk. cheesy
There is semi skimmed.

If you drink raw milk straight from cow or goat, yuk cheesy
It doesn't taste good. Loads of sugar added.

Don't worry, when you give birth, taste your milk grin

It doesn't stay fresh for long once exposed to heat. I see people hawking it in the markets. I don't buy cos it's risky.
