Children love to put up good habits and be praised for them. But they needed to be taught good behaviours and continued reinforcement till they become automatic.

When children show their manners always, it is more likely for them to follow through them to adulthood, making them responsible and well-behaved adults.

Here are some basic rules that should be taught to every child.
1. Speak politely to people especially if you are asking for help.

2. Use your magic words always.

3. Say thank you if someone has been helpful even to vendors and service providers.

4. If you need to get by say excuse me- don’t just force yourself through a narrow space.

5. Chew your food with your mouth closed.

6. Don’t talk while you have a mouthful. If you must, swallow your food before you speak to avoid choking

7. Wash your hands with soap and water after using the bathroom -always

8. Don’t lick your plate after eating, not even when you are alone!

9. Never litter the floor. Use the garbage bin.

10. Flush the toilet after use.

11. Put off electrical appliances if they are not in use.

12. Clean up after yourself

I3. If you receive a gift be sure to thank the person who gave it to you.

14. Don’t pick your nose in public

15. When at a friend’s place, don’t go about touching their belongings without permission

16. When in a public place and you see someone you recognized don’t shout their name to get their attention. Walk up to them instead. If it is not walkable, then leave them alone!

17. Don’t use people’s personal belongings such as towels, hairbrushes and toothbrushes.

18. Don’t point at people when you are telling others about them or trying to show them to someone.

19. It is never okay to lie, no matter the situation.

20. Dressing neatly shouldn’t be only when you are going out.

21. Don’t tap at people to get their attention. Say excuse, please or just call their names.

22. When two are talking and you needed their attention, don’t interfere, except it is an emergency. wait till they are done or when they ask you to speak.

What are the etiquette rules you think every child should know, or what manners are you imparting to your child? Please share them in the comment session so other parents could learn.
