First Day Of Class

Normally I would have waited a week before updating but I don't know when next I will chanced.

I woke up with greetings from ALX SE team. On the first day of the program, we are already doing some projects.

Well it's not like they're Coding projects but it doesn't rule out the fact that I'm stressed out.

Sending you lots of energy bro. You’ve got this.
Re: My Software Engineering Journey In ALX Africa by Anonymous6o6: 7:16pm On May 12, 2022
I was actually contemplating whether I should write something today or not. Oh well... I'm going to write because I don't know when I will be chanced again.

It's just been few days but I feel like it's been weeks. Gosh!!! I expected the program to be tough but this is just another surprise.

Since we started, we have been getting daily projects, let me rephrase, we get two projects every day with limited time.

Although we're not on programming languages yet, but two projects were sent today, one on she'll and the other on Git. One thing I love about the program is how these projects have connected me to amazing people.

There was one project that involved having a video chat with any student of ALX and discussion certain topics given to us. I enjoyed the whole process.

I will be sharing few pictures because I'm really tired. I have a lot to say but limited by time (I still have about four unfinished projects).

Today we had a live meeting where the CEO of ALX brief us about the "Room", I'm seriously inspired and excited.

We met the SE teams and there was a long discussion, I was busy with work then so I'm rewatching the video, not done yet.

Would speak about it once I'm done.

Is it still 14 hours or just exaggeration by Alx bro?

Answering from my experience, I would say Yes and No!

Yes, because you would spend long hours in a day there and probably lose focus of time unless you do not want to progress.

No, because you can be online when you want to stay off if you want. The most important thing is completing the projects.

I'm actually working and taking the program, my work requires a long hours of committed during the day and so I tend to do my projects at night (midnight before I sleep). I was on the losing end because I didn't have time to go through the materials sent to us, my number of my projects kept piling up.

Mind you, every morning around 5am, they usually send two projects daily with limited time. So yeah! It requires time commitment.

So far, if I was to comment base on my experience, I would rate it a 10/10. The ALX SE team aren't just sending us projects and leaving it at that. Sometimes we're made to work with others, even through the onboarding live meetings, we're constantly being motivated on *"WHY"* we applied for the program and how to stay strong throughout the program.

Also from my observation, if one takes time to read and watch the materials sent before a project, you won't have issues dealing with the projects. I recently finished a project that had to do with pseudocode and basic algorithm. I only watched one video of them all because I was too tired from work, I had assistance from peers before I was able to do it.

I know ALX has it's own challenges but if you come out strong, you will be glad you participated. Recently we have been educated about the *"ROOM"* and it's benefits.

We were also made to know about eight graduates of ALX who were employed by Amazon as software engineers (some are currently working in London), the benefits of the room is limitless! You can further develop your skills in the room through advance courses (this was mentioned by the SE team and the CEO).

I have realize, one mistake I made from the beginning was not getting my notes on time to note out important things (I enjoy making notes for easy reference). I still have four projects to complete with a limited time of 6days. If I were to add the two new projects being sent today, that would be (6)!

Below are some pictures of projects and ALX calendar.

Yeah
I won't lie, it hasn't been easy at all. Sometimes I feel like I'm unserious because people engage more and finish their projects on time while I usually start mine in the midnight.

Meaning that data will be used any time one wants to watch the videos for revision or to refresh the brain. Even if it is 20 times

Re: My Software Engineering Journey In ALX Africa by Anonymous6o6: 9:56pm On May 21, 2022
IT HAS NOT BEEN EASY!

Mehn... I initially planned to write after posting my writeup on Hasnode but I don't think I will have the time.

Projects kept coming in daily, it was seriously crazy cause I was motivated to learn and do my projects but challenging cause I don't have a laptop. I had plans to buy one and was already on it but life had other plans. My work was also taking too much of my time, by the time I get home, I'm barely able to study much. Usually, I wake up by 3-4am and study till dawn. Noticed it was taking a toll on my vision cause I had eye surgery last year, so I had to limit my midnight plan.

I was unable to finish all my projects before the deadline but luckily I had a second chance. If one is unable to finish his/her project before the deadline, another deadline is given but one's score is reduced. I spent today studying all about Git and GitHub. I read the materials, watched several videos on YouTube and made a separate project to use as sample.

Luckily, I used my boss laptop at work to practice enough to understand the concept. I feel if you know the basics like initialize, staging, commit, push, pull, clone, add, status, cl, CD, repo, then you won't be difficult for you. With enough practice, you're good to go!

I created a Hashnode account to document my codes, problems and solutions. I think my first writing will be *"Git and GitHub for beginners"*.

Mehn... I'm in a lot of software engineering groups for ALX students. Many of which are my seniors (those who started the program early this year), reading of the conversation even inspired to study more.

At first, I was all about working on projects before the deadline (without documenting things I learnt), this was a problem because I like jotting for easy reference. Lol I have three different notes for html, css and JavaScript. I recently bought more notes and the one for git already filled.

Please if you don't take anything from me tonight, it is good to have notes!

From the picture below, the ones with 100% are the projects I have done while the ones with zero are the ones I'm yet to do.

I have dedicated this week to re-reading the previous projects I have done. Especially pseudocode and basic algorithm.

ALX SE team inspiring me even during the difficult time.

Five days from now, we will be given opportunity to have a live chat with one of the former students of ALX who is currently working in Amazon. His experience in ALX, how he overcame it all, and eventually landed a software engineering job in Amazon.!

Also when I'm done with git today, I intend to post my blog link here so y'all can check it and give your opinion, though it is going to be *"Git and GitHub For Beginners".*

This is really interesting. Please who have a spare laptop till I get mine. I can roll little cash if you have any for sale. I don't have much to buy a quality one right now. I just completed my sign-up.
