One of the Jewish festivals was the feast of Pentecost. It happened seven weeks after the Passover seder. The purpose was to thank God for a successful agricultural year and to seek His blessing for the new agricultural year. Many Jews would come from far and near to celebrate the festival in Jerusalem.

The coming of the Holy Spirit was observed on Pentecost. This was ten days after Jesus' ascension into heaven. The apostles were gathered in the Upper Room that day for the Last Supper. They had been there since Jesus ascended into heaven. They feared to go out because people would accuse them of being with Jesus. In the Upper Room, they prayed and worshipped together.

A weird thing happened when the apostles were in the Upper Room together. First, there was the sound of a great wind which came from heaven into the room. Then they noticed what appeared to be tongue-shaped flames lying on each of them. They were immediately filled with the Holy Spirit or power of God and they started speaking in different languages.
