Any Precolonial or colonial history depicting Opobo as Ijaw?
Opobo and Bonny are linguistically and ethnically Igbo..The Ijaw people found in these areas were brass tribe and Kalabari tribe

Oga don't argue with them.....I wonder how a history book is more factual to the reality on ground, which is that opobos see themselves as Ijaws.

SEE LIST OF NATIVE IGBO TRIBES FROM STATES OUTSIDE THE
SOUTH EAST
These are list of Igbos indigenous to states outside the present so called South East of Nigeria. See below:

RIVERS STATE
1) Egbema
2) Ecthe
3) Omuma
4) Ndoni
5) Ikwerre
6) Ekpeye
7) Obigbo
coolOpobo
9) Ogba

EDO STATE
10) Igbanke/Igboakiri
In fact most people do not even know that Arch Bishop Benson Idahosa and his wife are Igbo from Igbanke in Uhuonde Local Government area of EDO state that was formerly in Orhionwon LGA .
The mother of the late Samuel Odaigbovo Ogbemudia is Igbanke! Most indigenes of this town just like Ika people bear hybrid names that most often could just jolly well pass as EDO because of their names like Nduka Irabor, Jim Ovia, Omorogie Nwawanne, Collins Edumaruse etc

DELTA STATE
11). Ika
12) Ndokwa
13) Ukwuani
14) Aniocha
15) Oshimili

BAYELSA STATE
16) Osekwenike, Abuetor and Eke Okpokri villages, all in Sagbama area of bayelsa, are all Igbo of Ukwuani stock, and as such, are of the Anioma igbo clan of the Igbo ethnic group in BAYELSA

CROSS RIVER STATE
17) ISOBO , even liyl imoke former CR governor and wife are igbos from ABI LGA – CROSS RIVER

AKWA IBOM STATE
18) Ikot Udo Ika in Ika Local Government area of Akwa Ibom is an Igbo community.

BENUE STATE
19)The Igbos in Benue State particularly those in Ado, Oju, Obi and Okpoku LGAs of the state were in existence before the advent of Christian religion in Nigeria.
The Igbo found in Benue are: Umuezeokoha, Umuezeoka, Oriuzor, Umuoghara, Amaekka and Amaezekwe all in Ezza communities, Izzi, Ezzamgbo and Effium, these are the people who would have been in present-day Ebonyi State but due to the fact that the Nigerian government then carved them into Benue in order to suppress the population of the East. Apart from the Ezza-speaking clan, particularly the people of Umuezeokoha that has over 300 villages, if you are to
calculate the number of Igbo-speaking villages in Benue State, outside Umuezeokaoha, you would be talking altogether about over 600 villages. Three of the biggest markets in Benue are all in the Igbo- speaking part.
The markets are Inikiri Ichari, Iddah, Iduokpe. There are also some Igbo speaking Idoma towns in Benue State.

KOGI STATE
20) THE indigenouse Igbo-speaking communities in Kogi state especially in Ibaji and Igalamela/Odolu LGAs are Eke Avurugo community, such as Nwajala, Umuoye, Ubulie-Umuez, ozara, and umuoye and many more.

NOTE
The current Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, also told us that his kingdom was initially conquered by the Igbo (PLEASE KINDLY NOTE THAT HE WAS NOT REFERRING TO THE UGBO OF ONDO STATE)until they were rescued by Moremi and he also spoke of an aboriginal Igbo community that still exist in ILE Ife to this day.
The Ugbo people of Ondo State have the same Obatala linkage with the Aborigines of Ile Ife. Note: there are several Igbo towns in present-day Igboland that are called Ugbo. For instance, you have Ugbodu in Delta State, and Ugbo in Enugu State, just to mention a few.

#Igbohistoryandculturetv

Even tho, I know your list can’t be real... When did Ooni of Ife told you that?

igboland/territories has the highest oil deposit of more than 60% of the dungeon's total oil deposits and over 80% of the dungeon's gas deposits. It's annoying hearing some Igbos using the narratives of the British/fulani by reffering to Niger Delta as where the majority of their dungeon's oil is found. That dungeon must go down.

Igboland in SE and SS holds more than 90% of Nigeria's gas reserves.

Yes not only these ones but I can tell you authoritatively that Igboho in Osun and Ejigbo in Lagos are Igboland. Even Igede in Kwara, Ekiti and Benue are Igboland. They just changed the name from Egede to Igede after the war. Iseyin in Oyo sef has meaning in great Igbo language so must be part of Igbo republic…Igbo is large if you must know. I read recently on facebook that they are the ‘largest ethnic group’ in Garbon and Equitorial Guinea. Intact as I am typing this they are overtaking Xoha, Zulu. Venda. Tsonga in South Africa…. My brother, I did not say that Kalabari is not ijaw. I only mentioned this in the context of some Igboid groups that deny their Igbo Nationality. I was actually asking my Igboid clans to learn from the Ijaw clans.

If you go through most of my write-ups, I have been very clear of my stand on the ethnic make up of Rivers State without emotional mix-up or bias.

If you must know, some Kalabari folks actually do deny being Ijaw because of Rivers State Politics. They would rather like to be addressed as Kalabari Ethnic Nationality instead of Ijaw Nation. You should know this if you are really from kalabari and Rivers State. There is even a popular association that opposes IYC and INC and have been advocating that IYC should be expelled for causing division in Kalabari land especially the way Bille/Udekeama Community was recognised as a separate Clan from Kalabari by IYC/INC. There is this seemly distrust brewing between the larger Ijaw and ethnic Kalabari based on internal Kalabari politics. Many Kalabari believe that the ijaws are instigating this to weaken them. I am not from there but as an ijaw nationalist yourself, I think you should look into it and get it resolved before it becomes intractable.

This is example.
Clear Reasons And Facts Why Kalabari Nation Is Not Ijaw Sub-group Not People That Came From Ijaw, But A Ethnic Group On Its Own, Despite We Are Seen As Minority In Present Day Nigeria.
Kalabari Indigenous Movement
https://www.facebook.com/page/118544505518424/search/?q=Ijaw

The good thing for now is that in spite of these local inter-clan resentments your folks will always identify as Ijaw once outside Rivers State or in a public forum with non-Ijaws. I wish our Igboid people will also learn this virtue.

Our Igbo folks in the South East do not interfere or meddle in our local inter-clan local politics and I think this is Igbo egalitarian way of life. I think it is good too. It ensures every igboid clan keep their unique identity but Nigeria and Rivers politics have long latched on these our old age quasi-independence of Igbo clans to forment trouble and bred hatred between Igboid clans and our larger Igbo family especially those outside the South East geopolitical area.
Some people say it all started after the civil war but my grandfather told that the seeds of distrust among igboid groups were planted long before the civil war. The war only offered our politcal competitors including unfortunately some people in our old Rivers the opportunity to balkanise Igboland and implant the division in order to dimmish the perceived Igbo numerical, economic and political dominance. It is a long story and please let me not bore you my friend with our story.

I fully support your determination to continue to unite your people irrespective of the artifial state boundaries and I am confident that our Igboid people will definitely bond more with our folks in other states of Nigeria as more of our people get enlightened.

I truely believe we can advocate for our different Nationalities (Ijaw and igbo) in a civilised way and with decorum as our forebears have done over the centuries of co-habitation as good neighbours in our blessed homeland.

There is an old adage that says Egbe bere Ugo bere.

It's refreshing to see your submission on these issues. Especially at a time when ignorance is rife in today's society. Considering ethnic composition of rivers state, it isn't just a case of igbo/ijaw dichotomy. Most tribes/groups today are a blend. Igbo blends are observable with Ogoni around Eleme as a group formerly known as Mboli. Andoni were originally Obollo people of today's Akwa-ibom who later had some igbo as well as ijaw elements. Okrika ancestors confirmed they migrated from Afam to their present location and today they have largely mixed up with ijaws. Kalabari/New Calabar were people who origin left Calabar(probably Efiks) axis in today's Cross River state and were led by the Aro to isiokpo before they eventually resettled in today's location. Today, there is a more ijawcentric campaign amongst them than efik/igbo.
These are some of the reasons why Okrika and Kalabari don't see themselves as same people even though IYC keep claiming them as ijaw. Most of these historical facts are well documented, unfortunately we do not read anymore.
Communal clashes and slavery were some of the causes of serious migration back then. A whole lots of tribal blendings occured that resulted in today's ethnic groupings.

The truth is that the military used state creation to divide the igbo race and they have succeeded in some parts. Some Ikwerre kept shouting they ain't igbos but only very few recognise their history like Chibuike Amaechi. The igbo population is alarming. Those igbos in Benue State keep restating they are and they feel left out sometimes. Ohaneze should do more in bringing all those igbos their land didn't fall in SE back and giving them sense of belonging. Just as they're idomas that fall under Enugu State

Migrating from Afam or from calabar don't in anyway prove they are not ijaws...

Migration has always been part of human history.

The Jews migrated from cannan to Egypt then to cannan again. This Don't mean they are Canaanites or Egyptians.

Dear friend, source of migration is a pointer to who some of them were. Like I said earlier this explains why Okrika is linguistically different from Kalabari. It explains why some parts of Okrika were igbo speaking. Why former Kings in both Okrika and Kalabari were igbos. Ijaws migrated eastwards from the western delta, okrika migrated southwards while Kalabari migrated westwards from Calabar. There is a reason why akwa-cross tradition is found amongst the Kalabari.

Ile Ife story is real.

Sijuade the late Ooni of Ife told same story when I served in Ile Ife, how some invaders dressed in grass like masquerade invaded Ife in the ancient days, killing their people and stealing their farm produce to disappear. They believed they were spirits not until a pretty Ife lady, Moremi volunteered herself so she could be captured by those invaders so she can infiltrate them and know their secret.

That was how she gave up herself to be captured by the invaders who took her to their king cos she was so yellow and beautiful. The king married her and she got to know their war secret and she leaked it to Ife warriors who then waited for the invaders and put their grass masquerade on fire and caught them.

They later discovered they were Igbos.

From the story, Igbos had infiltrated some places in Ife during those invasion and started living there as their lands, not that Ile ife is Igbo land.

Ooni is trying to say that Igbos and Ife people share heritage because during those invasion, they lost some of their people who were kidnapped and they became part of Igbos hence the shared heritage.

Hope u grab now?

I heard this from Ooni palace myself not hearsay, u can research about it. That's why they celebrate Moremi till today.

Another Igbo masturbation thread.

Igbos in Bayelsa?
Isn't this something beyond madness?

For a long time I've been used to this type of ridiculous show of incurable obsession on Ijawland by Igbos, for God's sake look at all the pictures the OP posted as ethnic Igbos, they are all pictures of Ijaw people and Ijaw culture.

Apoi in Ondo are Ijaw people but Yoruba speaking, bear Yoruba names and practice more Yoruba cultures than Opobians who only speak an Igbo creole. Opobians still has their Ijaw names, history and culture intact.

You can not blackmail Opobians into adopting a false Igbo identity using language as a blackmail tool. We Ijaws are too sophisticated for that.

Now back to Bayelsa.
Osikwenike, Abuetor and Eke Okpokiri are Isoko communities of the Akugbe Isoko clan in Delta State that spilled into Bayelsa state.

GreatBoss:

It's normal for we Rivers Ijaws.

If we all see our selves as Ijaw just like that, opportunities in Rivers State will be less.
Kalabari in Rivers say Kalabari
Wakirike say Okrika
Ibani say Ibani
Andoni say Andoni
Etc.

But when all of us Ijaws in Rivers gather in Ijaw Wari in PH we see ourselves as Ijaws.
And we are Ijaws to all the National Ijaw levels.

We do that for political reasons in Rivers State.

Good to know. Thanks.
