Beta blocker is the only good option.

Yes i agree.

The commonest cause of HTN in the young is an overdrive of the sympathetic nervous system.

A selective B2 antagonist may help.

But hey, i am not a cardiologist, so make we leave the experts to do their job grin grin

I have had high BP since 2009 when I was about 19years.. if you follow this advice strictly within 1 week you will see big improvement.. you blood pressure should be 120/80 and highest 130/80 when normal

Firstly make lifestyle change
Sleep early
Drink lots of water
Eat a lot of fruit and vegetable
Don’t eat large portion of food
Don’t eat fatty food like bread, rice, cake, biscuit etc
Eat nut like almond and walnut
Don’t put salt at all in your food
Register at the gym and exercise for 45min 4-5 a week( most importantly running or cycling )

Avoid any kind of unnecessary stressful situation may be relationship or people

Get yourself the BP testing equipment so that you can check at home every 2 days

Get supplement ( omega 3 fatty acid, vitamin D)

Make this juice once a week ( zobo + pinapple + lemon) don’t take everyday twice a week is ok

For now take your BP medication regularly the most important thing is that you don’t want the HP to damage major organs in the body.. that’s why it’s important to bring the BP down with doctor medication first but when you do all the things above it will later come down by itself and you probably just take the medication once or twice a week

good luck

Greetings to you all.

Since birth till date (I'm 31) I have never fallen sick to a point were a test is recommended, so I have never had a medical test all my life.

Sometimes when I feel feverish or down in anyway I usually buy malaria and typhoid medicines and that usually work for me.

But some time in 2018, (I was 27 then) I was informed by my uncle's wife that she was going to do a free medical outreach in our village as her own way of helping people (she's a nurse in U.S) and she told me she would like me to be present to help organize and sort out things to make the work easy for medical professionals she invited to do their work.

Majority of the people that turned up were oldies so we had loads of work to do bring in chairs for the overwhelming turn up.... people's blood pressure and blood sugar were check and they also had eyes test and corrective lenses were given.

Now, after the whole exhausting exercise, my auntie as a fondly call her asked all of us that worked to also check our BP and blood sugar, which took turns and did as instructed.

My blood sugar was normal according to the nurse but my BP was something else, 105/156... she immediately called my auntie's attention to it and she opted to check me herself using another equipment, she did and it came as 110/160..... she told me it's really very high and considering my age shouldn't be.

Prior to that event I have never felt anything awkward or unusual, I play football and do almost all exercises a young guy will want to do... it's also pertinent to note that I do not smoke and even though i drink beer i dont exceed 2 bottle because i have "light brain" like they will always say.

She ("my auntie"wink asked the senior doctor present to exchange contacts with me so that at intervals of 1 or 2 weeks I will always go check my BP and see if it will reverse to normal.... I went to his private clinic twice and the results was always high so he, on the second occasion gave me a card of 10mg drugs...

I took the whole card as direct and came back to the clinic this time the result was 100/138, he now asked me to always check it at any pharmacy store near me and always have the aforementioned medicines available.
The doc. asked me not to be taking it daily anymore but only when it's high (above 100/140), I have kept to this routine ever since...

Now my problem here is, in recent time I find myself feeling more week and dizzy and I dont even know how to describe the feelings cry cry
I become very worn out after 45 minutes football unlike me, I barely play now.

My auntie travelled back and seems to forgotten everything she promised, I call and no response and I hate pestering people.
I want a solution to this BP thing, I feel bad about it all the time and always ashamed to even mention it sad
I feel I'm gradually going downhill health wise....I need help and I need it urgently please...... I can't take anything more than this cry

Pls don't panic as it's not a new thing

BP on young people could be as a result of the following things

Hereditary
Excess consumption of salt
Restlessness
And other unknown factors

Now that you have known uoir BP status

Keep to your drugs routine and stay healthy

You may not feel anything now because you are still in your prime and you may start noticing the signs and symptoms at about 35/40 yrs of age

So if your both parents have BP then you are not far from it

Meanwhile, reduce your spead in football to avoid sudden collapse

Guy...I was exactly in your shoes in my late 20s...I thought I was going to die of high blood pressure lol...
Bro, Trust me, nothing is wrong with you..
You are nervous whenever you want to check your BP that's why it's high, you need to relax and take your mind off it(I had this issue too)
Taking BP drugs at this age is too early as you cannot stop since you've started.
Always get enough sleep, avoid drinking for now, limit salt intake and continue with your exercises. Check your BP after 3weeks and you should be fine.
Hope this helps

Try check your kidney functions. Don’t take bp medication, it will worsen the situation, it will make you rely on drugs. I do have high bp. Matures you take beetroot with garlic. Make it like Joyce and drink it you will see wonders in nature. Try take magnesium supplement, vitamin E, omega 3fatti acid.

The cause of high blood pressure in young adults isn't always known, but addressing obesity, sedentary lifestyle and excessive alcohol or salt can be the first steps toward bringing your blood pressure down.

High blood pressure in younger children is often related to other health conditions, such as heart defects, kidney disease, genetic conditions or hormonal disorders.
Older children, especially those who are overweight are more likely to have primary hypertension.

Who could have thought you could actually post a comment on nairaland without insulting Igbos. I can see from your comment that you are normal and probably educated, what I don't understand is how a normal person like you will still be supporting Buhari despite all he has done.

Abi tribalism and religious sentiment de always cloud your rational judgment thus making you to always support what you know is bad.

I discovered I have HBP last month, I was shocked, I was placed on drugs for two weeks. After the two weeks it became normal or increased sef to 90/120.

I was placed on another drug for 12 days because of the little chest pain, when I finish I'll go for another check up.

What I believe caused mine was worry and anxiety.
Alcohol
Salt.

I dey worry less now because na person Wei dey alive dey worry and dey dey anxious.

Alcohol, I reduced it drastically abi stop sef.

Salt, I have completely stopped adding salt to my food.

I make sure a exercise daily at least 50 pushups.

BP drugs are not what you start and stop like that, you have to see a doctor ASAP. And this time pls don't stop taking the drugs, as painful as it sounds you have to live on your life on antihypertensive drugs. Act fast before you develop other health problems.

I suffered from that same issue of high blood pressure.
I was 29 then. Got really sick and was transferred to FMC Keffi. After series of medications, nothing changed as regards the high blood pressure (BP). My elder insisted I stayed in her house for 2 weeks. They thought it was stress from work. After the 2 weeks the BP was still high.

Someone suggested I take mixture of garlic and ginger, morning and night for 3 days. Like

Guy there's nothing wrong with you as long as you are doing well for yourself, stop those medications it's has side effects and stop using BP tools start meditation and clear your mind, run only once or twice a week and hit the gym three time a week and the most important is to sleep well 8-9 minimum

If you’re fan of herbs then this should help. Buy coconut, then squeeze few bitterleaf... just little squeeze, then soak it inside the coconut water for 42hours. Take 2 spoonful every 2days before breakfast... rest for a week and continue. Make sure to check your bp as you’re taking it.

HBP is hereditary. But taking all those drugs (Amlodipine, Vasoprin etc ) will make it worse over time. Contentious intake could lead to serious cold, hearing issue, even though it's purpose is to regulate the BP. They are designed to be taken for the rest of one's life, so the earlier you stop it and start depending on natural drugs and have a change of life style the better for you. The following common herbs will will control BP; Ginger, garlic, tumeric, glove and Beet root, when combined together. The good thing with then is that, they have no side effect, and they are natural. I'm talking from experience.

You should get a second opinion on how to take your blood pressure control drugs.

A lot of people who have blood pressure issues do well by taking their drugs consistently.
Re: High BP At A Young Age, What Could Be The Cause by Coolnel: 1:46pm On Aug 25, 2022
Hello,

You need immediate life style changes to prevent continued dependence on BP medication.

1) Reduce your weight by about 5 to 10 kg as more weight may affect your BMI. Exercise and mostly protein diet will help.
2) Avoid sedentary life style that is from chair to bed to car. Get some exercise. Infact just do a minimum of 30mins walk at least 5 days in a week.
3) Get cucumber, carrot and ginger, blend and drink half a glass daily till the BP is reversed.
4) Ensure you sleeep well at night ,if possible get sleeping medication from a doctor for at least 5 days.
5) Any problem that is not your own try to drop them for now. Reduce what you think about.
6) Also stay away from salt completely. Find a way or reduce it drastically.

A combination of all these will see the BP drop.

From your write up, those values doesn't really confirm you are hypertensive but you may be pre-hypertensive thou the diastolic value is a bit high but the systolic value is normal. 140/90mmHg is classified as the high normal value. Try to reduce salt intake, do moderate exercise and don't practice self medication. My 2 cent
