Lols it doesn't happen that way......every building has it's own documentations...or say requirements just like every court case has it's verdict or every sickness has its own medication.....

But in the case of Buildings, the effect of not taking up those requirements ends up in devastating news just as seen here....

A seven story building should have a basement floor , and from the Fifth- sixth floor to the seventh floor, should not carry the full loads ( spaces) given to other floors , these will help to reduce loads in the building...

Then was there any soul test conducted? Was it followed up and effected during the Sub structure stage?

Was there any expansion joints enforced to seperate loads incase of differential settlements

Building Construction is not a make due affair....is like a written novel, once you scrape one leave from the novel, the reader becomes confused......
So all hands ( from Architect, builders, Structural engineers / all Engineers , the QS etc) must be on desk to make sure every requirement is achieved.....

Building is not a child's play....you can't go building 6 floors because your next door neighbor built 6 floors, and you can't use the same methods he used as well to build your now house....

At a given perimeter, the soil nature changes , so , one should not go on a guess work in erecting buildings....

The other day, I was listening to Ifuoma Egbamuno, a Nigeriainfofm journalist, analyse the causes of building collapse in Lagos, and the news guy ended his thoughts on the programme with, "There will be another building collapse in Lagos before the year is done".

Two months later and boom! . Another building collapse for LASG to do nothing but yap about

Systemic failure everywhere you turn! Talk about a failed State.

The way houses are built here are so scary. For those that are filling up rivers and beaches to build house hmmmmm, We don’t even know what will happen to those ones…

So na every month building dey collapse for Lagos? Tinubu, you do this one.

This is the same Lagos, Tinubu "built". Same one which reeks of corruption and agberos everywhere. Which other city in the world does buildings collapse every fortnight, putting human lives in jeopardy everytime? Afterall, Onitsha has 95% storey buildings and we don't hear of building collapse.

All these people that build houses that collapse are really wicked. They don't want to hire professional builders because they want cheap things and cheap labour.

What do you expect when you just hire a local unqualified bricklayer to build such a structure.

Nigerians need to stop these cheap stuff mentality and start making use of professional services.

Let me point out one important aspect of building collapse most people are ignorant of it.
Building project is a team work,it requires the service of project manager, civil engineer, builders, Craftsmen etc. Even if you hire the best civil engineer from UK to come and practice in Nigeria he won't be exempted from this menace.
Why? Because most reinforcement rod at the market are substandard ( you can design a slab and beam with reinforcement rod "Y16" when the procurement officer gets to market and request for Y16 rod, what will be given to him won't satisfy the strength requirements f 460N/mm2.
Now this is not the fault of the procurement officer nor the structural engineer but it's the collective effort of a failed society.
SON, MAN and the building materials traders that allow greed take over their common sense .
When one part of the body Is sick the entire body is sick, that is the scenery we are experiencing not quackery.
