ABUNDANT LIFE VISION
FOUNTAIN. John 7:37-39
On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! [38]Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” [39](When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.) NLT.

Dear friends, we will talk about fountain this morning. What is a fountain? The Greek word for a fountain is “pege”. It means a source or a supply of water, blood or enjoyment. A fountain can either supply water, blood or enjoyment for people. Going by this definition, the teaching will be divided into three parts. But before I start with the division of the teaching, let me ensure that I have defined a fountain properly. When you look at our bible text, you will see Jesus saying “Anyone who believes in me may come and drink.” Jesus is the fountain, he is the source of everything everyone who believes in him will enjoy. What I am trying to say is that anyone who will drink his water, anyone who will benefit from his blood and anyone who will have enjoyment provided by him must come to him by accepting him as his Lord and saviour.

At this juncture, let me start by explaining what water means. On the surface, we can say that water is life. If you doubt me, try going for seven days without water and see what will happen to your body. You can go a lot of days without food but you will struggle to go many days without water, you may even lose your life. Jesus asking people to come and drink from him means he wants people to come and have life from his side. This life will be given to them in form of the Holy Spirit who is a comforter like Jesus. The Holy Spirit gives us the life of God after we have given our lives to Jesus Christ.

The second one is blood. Hebrews 9:22-26: In fact, according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness. [23]That is why the Tabernacle and everything in it, which were copies of things in heaven, had to be purified by the blood of animals. But the real things in heaven had to be purified with far better sacrifices than the blood of animals. [24]For Christ did not enter into a holy place made with human hands, which was only a copy of the true one in heaven. He entered into heaven itself to appear now before God on our behalf. [25]And he did not enter heaven to offer himself again and again, like the high priest here on earth who enters the Most Holy Place year after year with the blood of an animal. [26]If that had been necessary, Christ would have had to die again and again, ever since the world began. But now, once for all time, he has appeared at the end of the age to remove sin by his own death as a sacrifice. NLT. We can come to God through Jesus because of what he has done for us through his blood. His blood is the password that opens the gate of the kingdom of God for us. Also, the ministry of Jesus was confirmed in the writing of John the beloved in 1John 5:6-8 as the Spirit, water and blood witnessed about his ministry and about his sonship.

The third one is that a fountain gives enjoyment. This relates to eternal life. The Holy Spirit does not just give you the life of God to be like him here on earth, he also ensures that you have life abundantly by living forever. John 3:16: “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. NLT. The life will be enjoyed in the new Jerusalem where there will be no death, weeping and sorrow. Rev 21:1-4.
