Depression is real! These days it is a fatal emotion. But as Muslims do you have any business being depressed? The answer is NO!

Here are 2 Verses (Qur'an) and 2 Hadith (sayings of the prophet PBUH) that calibrates Muslims' mind away from Depression

Allah says:

"No misfortune can happen on earth or in your souls but is recorded in a decree before We bring it into existence: That is truly easy for Allah:

In order that you not despair over what has eluded you and not exult [in pride] over what He has given you. And Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful ..."

These 2 beautiful Verses above calibrates your mind not to grieve excessively over what you don't have (which is one of the main causes of depression) but also admonishes you not to be arrogant over what you have (because either you or what was given to you can be taken at any time by Allah).
The knowledge that things happen the way they are meant to happen is the ultimate truth and a source of peace to all believers.

The prophet (PBUH) said:

"Wondrous is the affair of the believer for there is good for him in every matter and this is not the case with anyone except the believer. If he is happy, then he thanks Allah and thus there is good for him, and if he is harmed, then he shows patience and thus there is good for him"

It is important to understand that as long as we are alive our situations will keep changing just like the seasons or time (we were young once, but now older. We can be in good health today and sick tomorrow, rich today and poor tomorrow).

Everything is a test and like all tests what matters is the result or how you react -know this and now peace. The rich man's test is his wealth, the poor man's test is his poverty. Like Allah said this world and all that is in it are test to show who is deserving of a station in the after life.

Once this concept of trials is understood (both good and bad from our view point) you wouldn't be depressed or happy with what you were tried with but rather how you fared in the trial.

I end with this prayer O Allah, let the best of our lifetime be its ending, and our best deed be that which we seal [our life with], and the best of our days the day we meet You.
