Rich4god: I mentioned Obi because some of those lamenting about our inflation are supporting the biggest single importer in Nigeria. Secondly, you said I should go to farm. My in-laws are from Eha Amufu in Enugu state. People from their are mostly farmers but within the last year especially the last 3 months, a lot of them are living in churches and IDPs because Fulani herdsman are killing them. How do you expect people like that to go to farm. There is a thread on front page where bandits kidnapped more than 50 farmers. How do you expect the farmers to go to farm. Same story from Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto. Farmers are been attacked by bandits and yet you are saying go to farm. The government is taking care of the issue. You can't pretend that the government is not trying. Moreover, the issue of insecurity needs to be addressed holistically. The military needs total overhauling. Same as the police and other security agencies. One fight should be against corruption. Look at the Offa bank robbery case. The armed robbers successfully went through at least 5 police checkpoints. Is that also the fault of Buhari? Yes, the police are poorly paid. But even at that, there is this mentality that makes the average Nigerian police so negligent, and just there feeling stationed to have his palms greased. There was also an incident involving El Rufai who cried out that security bosses claimed to have the phone numbers of bandits, but yet have refused to strike. El Rufai was chided as a bloody civilian and the matter died there. My point is that this issue of security is not as straightforward as many of you people think. Aside the age-long farmer-herdsmen battle for scarce resources, the issue of terrorism should not be treated as a simple one. Many of you believe that the government can end this issue by simply rolling out the tanks. This matter is way beyond that. These people have sponsors within and outside the country. At least, we know of the link between ISIS and Boko Haram. And we all know that the Saudi monarchy and the CIA are big sponsors of terrorism in certain countries. People like you are the problem of this country. You see truth and you try to cover it just because of your vested interest. I have no vested interest in any party. I only want the government to succeed, because it benefits everyone. And if we are a people that looks at history, we will not be blaming the Buhari administration. This is an administration that never had it easy from the word go. They met an insecurity waxing strong. Borno had already been reduced to an unproductive state setting the food inflation of today in motion. Coupled with the fact that previous governments failed to diversify, to fix electricity problems, and to reduce trade deficits, the Buhari administration was bound to struggle. Just as we (who look at history and economics) already know that the next administration (whoever heads it) will struggle. There is no miracle anywhere. We will need at least 20 years to refocus this country. You people talk as if insurgency is child's play. Under GEJ, the defense budget got the lion's share of the national budget for 5 years with nothing to show for it. Boko Haram simply continued to take territories. You now expect that the insurgency will just go away. Of course, coupled with the global economic slump owing to the COVID-19 lockdowns, hunger will drive the crime rate even higher. Remove tribe and religion from your eyes so that you can see clearly. You are the one who needs it. I don't do religion, otherwise as a Christ follower, I should not be supporting Buhari or Tinubu. And my tribe has absolutely nothing to do with my support for Tinubu either. Same people that brought buhari to power are the once pushing Tinubu. So in essence, if APC win, same people will still be in corridor of power. But the same people brought Goodluck Jonathan to power. The same people also did it for Yar'Adua. You forgot how Wole Soyinka joined others to walk to the Villa in protest when the cabal refused to let GEJ act as president in the absence of Yar'Adua. Sufferness knows no tribe or religion, APC is not a party to vote for in this election. Sufferness will not go away with a new leader because our issue is not just about changing the head of government. Our issues go deep in history and structure. In fact, our political structure makes it difficult for anyone to perform any wonders. We practise federalism only on paper. Check the FG's legislative list and compare it to that of governors. Let us take Peter Obi, for instance. What wonders do you suppose Obi will do in 4-8 years with a cash-strapped economy that imports nearly everything, including fish, petrol and kerosene? What wonders can Obi do with a country battling insecurity left, right, and centre? What wonders can he do with our trade deficit when he himself is the biggest individual importer? Let us be realistic. Sufferness will continue for a while longer because past governments failed to do the proper thing. They failed to diversify away from oil. They failed to fight insurgency when it was in its earliest state. In fact, the extra judicial killing of Yusuf by our poorly trained police officers turned Boko Haram into a monster. 1 Like |

Do you have a farm? Don't you know government is suppose to regulate and create enabling environmental and also lead by example? Also why lie that obi is the single importer just because you prefer thiefnubuu. Btw When Buhari closed border from imports did price of goods reduce or the opposite? BluntTheApostle: 1 Like |

BluntTheApostle: Why must he farm? He owes nobody that. It is time this thinking about agriculture departs ASAP. The Asian tigers Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong did not get to where they are today through agriculture. They all had an export or perish mentality. Going to back to the farms isn’t the solution to Nigeria’s economic woes. Thailand which exports more food than all of Africa combined has a per capita income of only $6,000. Ukraine which is the breadbasket of Europe was the second poorest country in Europe based on per capita income before the invasion. Over 80% of Nigeria’s wheat is from Ukraine. It exports enough food to feed 400m people. For agriculture to grow in Nigeria, people actually have to leave the farms and not return. Productivity needs to increase exponentially. This will adversely affect the need for more farm hands. In America, a single farmer can handle 200 hectares of corn or soybeans. Many of those advocating a return to agriculture aren’t even economists. Buhari will say agriculture is the country’s future and people will listen forgetting he is a soldier and only read economics for 15 minutes as a borrowed course in military school. Nigeria actually produces a lot of things. It main problem is that it does not export enough. That is where the problem lies. And again, there is nothing wrong with imports. They are actually good for you. Imports creates livelihoods for millions of Nigeria. Your wheat for making bread is imported. Does bread and other baked products not creates thousands of jobs. If you think imports make the country poorer, wait for the day "your container don land". Or Tokunbo cars. Does it not create livelihoods for lots of Nigerians. If Peter Obi is the country's largest importer, kudos to him (He isn't) Where the country fails is that it does not export. If the Nigerian textile mills just focused on exporting fabrics to California, they will be working above capacity. Import-Exports are a win-win, What is crucial is that the country must become a export juggernaut. Industry and services are the way to go, especially industry. A factory alone can employ 1,000 workers, some 10,000 workers. The country needs an export or perish mentality. Exports need to be growing by at least a 10% annually for the next 10 years. This would transform the economy and creates lots of job. copy Rich4god 3 Likes 2 Shares |
