So how would the government cushion the effect when the refineries are not working. This is no time to support nonsense. If it's not affecting you , I believed it is affecting your friends and family. If subsidy must go, refinery must begins to work to cushion the rising effect

SmartPolician:

This has nothing to do with protests.

Let's stop deceiving ourselves in Nigeria.

Petrol subsidy needs to go because we are losing so much to it.

The government just needs to come up with paliatives to cushion its harsh effect.

Fuel subsidy is not the cause of high cost of petrol in nigeria.
The dollar exchange rate to naira is one major factor unfortunately the corrupt leaders can't build a working refinery.
Take Ghana for example or other west African countries, petrol price is high in their country than Nigeria.
You should be happy they're paying fuel subsidy for you else cost of commodities will go very high, transportation will go very high.
Removal of Fuel subsidy will expose the Nigerian economy.

subsidy had been on for more that 16 years. Our insensitive government thinks the best thing is just is remove it. Meanwhile if they let it be, it will die naturally if they do the right thing. All the government need to do, is to build refinery even if it is just one and watch how subsidy will die naturally.
They will cause a problem and shift it to the citizens to suffer for it.
Do also know that if the subsidy is removed we will just suffer in vain because they will still steal the money.

Just like Peter Obi always says, Nigéria, admittedly, has bad leadership. However, the followers, according to him, are as bad as the leaders.

For instance, among all our neighbours, Nigeria has the cheapest PMS price due to subsidy. Unfortunately, greedy Nigerians, especially those who live in border towns, keep moving the product outside the country to sell to her neighbours to make more money.

You buy #2 and sell at #4 or a little higher than #2. Like a people without values, Nigeria is a terrible society. This means that Nigeria is subsidizing the product for her citizens and her neighbours.

You don't have to believe - it is what it is.

What you believe or not believe doesn't change a reality.

There are lots of things Nigerians import from China that are much cheaper than those produced in Nigeria.

FYI, there are many factors that drive production: labour cost, government policy, taxes, infrastructure (like power and access road), etc.

Nigeria is like a country without a government.
Don't just deceive yourself with your statement. This is what the so called cabal want us to believe. If fg really want to be honest to Nigerians, there is no way the cost in producing it here will be higher than importing it from abroad. Only the shipment to Nigeria is costlier than producing here, you should know that you are not talking to a novice.

My brother, don't mind what that guy that called himself smart politician is saying. I don't see any smartness in his comment. He is just commenting carelessly. Imagine saying that importation is cheaper than producing here.

The person that earn 20k a month but spends 6k early last year will now be spending 12k on transportation and subsidy is believed to be in place still and his salary will not increase.

What bcoms of him when subsidy is removed?
