When Nupe people invaded Oyo Empire, they won the first battle. Settle with Oyo people and started living with them. After a while, Oyo empire regain it territory. Some Nupe left while some stayed. Part of those that left already married Yoruba women, which made them leave together with their wives ( yorubas ).

Yoruba culture is very strong that is why those people came back to Yoruba land unlike Igbo slaves with weak culture and didn't come back because they already forgotten their roots.
