Dear Tech Guys,

I’ll greatly appreciate input for the best out of the two laptops described below -or for something even better. Two, it’s also a battle between Mac and Windows. I've never used Mac. (First-hand user experiences and contributions are highly welcomed):

Note: Both are almost new and priced at around N500K

Dell Precision 3551 Workstation
15.6" inch FHD Display
Intel Core i9-10th Gen vPro (8-Core, 2.40GHz to 5.30GHz)
32GB Ram
512GB SSD
Nvidia Quadro P620 4GB DDR5
Thunderbolt Port
Backlit keyboard
Fingerprint Reader
Laptop, charger and Box

Macbook Pro 15" 2019
15-inch Retina display
2.6GHz Core i7
16GB RAM
512GB SSD
Four Thunderbolt 3
Battery count 169
4GB dedicated graphics
Laptop and Charger

Please advise.

What do you intend to use it for?
If mobile apps development is part of if, then the MacBook Pro as you would need XCode for ios apps.

What OS do you plan on running on the system?
Windows 11?Will work with both devices. Linux? Check if there are drivers for your graphics card especially. MacOs? MacBook pro

After Use.
If you plan on selling to upgrade very soon, the MacBook retains value relatively. If you intend to dash someone or sell for around half of purchase price (or less), then the Dell.

Display
Dell and other business laptops are known for shipping generic poor quality displays. Apple has only one standard display per device which is always best in class. Kindly check the specs in this regards.

Gaming
When it comes to gaming, MacBook is on vacation except you are comfortable running bootcamp or playing asphalt.

Just some extras

If you use an iPhone go for the mac also be ready to adapt to the mac ecosystem

If android you might want to stick with Windows cos of the ease in transferring files

don't stress yourself much about the 2 cos you might find out you need something entirely different as you progress

Only on Nairaland they'll be comparing a 2019 Macbook 16GB ram to a bloody Dell of much higher specs and e still dey drag. lol

If you know how to use the apple ecosystem, you're not a gamer, better stick with Macbook that will give you up to 5+ years stable running guarantee.

I use both a Lenovo of similar specs and Macbook M1.
Bro! Macbook na mackbook

He can run Mac OS on Windows using Virtual Box. It allows him to run other Operating Systems on Windows making it possible to run XCode on Windows for Mac OS App development. The Dell PC is just the best here.

Both PCs are too powerful for coding projects. I actually thought you wanted to do 3D modelling and animation or probably Game development.

Both PCs are good but just like someone said, if you have an iPhone, you can buy the MacBook and enjoy the Apple Ecosystem but if you are using Android, just stick to Windows. Microsoft also has an app that you can install in your windows PC to allow you share files seamlessly between your Android phone (works best with Samsung) and your PC, you can copy files from your Android it they will instantly appear in the clipboard of your PC so you can paste them.

If you also love gaming, get the Windows PC.

Yes he can run MacOs on virtual box, however, in what ways is the dell better than the MBP apart from the 32gb RAM? Care to shed more light?.

Kindly consider that the Dell is just a FHD display (1,920 x 1,080) while the MBP is a retina (2880 x 1800).

The Dell would also lose a lot more at resale.

Then the other little things like the durability of the aluminium chassis, the dolby atoms sound, the clean install without the need for an antivirus and the unix architecture.

cheers

The Dell computer in question is a 10th Gen Intel Core i9 which is more powerful than the Intel Core i7 used in the MacBook. I checked the Apple's website for that MacBook and Apple omitted the processor's generation.
The Dell spots a 32GB DDR5 RAM which is larger and faster than the 16GB DDR4 RAM in the MacBook.

Areas where the MacBook beat the Dell would be the Screen with slightly higher resolution and availability of more Thunderbolt ports to connect external GPUs.

For me, I tend to avoid using Hardware Virtualizations e.g VirtualBox, for anything Serious and Long term. the resource Usage no be here.

Also for such Specs, I kinda would prefer a deskTop (which I could build to my taste), to a prebuilt LapTop.

Also those Specs I see there, seem way overKill for stated Purpose. No be say You dey do Data Analysis or 3D modelling sort of projects.

if I need Retina Display or any advanced Display feature, I get a standAlone monitor. I no dey too appreciate All-In-One features because it's akin to putting all your eggs into One Basket. Should anything happen to that laptop, you loose that Display which might be one of the basic key consideration in choosing said lapTop.

As for Finger wey dey print, wetin concern me with features I barely would be using, or could be byPassed. We never even talk of fact say the lapTop owner fit dey use fingerprint feature, but fail to encrypt the HardDisk - More like using fingerprint / Password / Pin on your android phone, but I could easily take out your MemoryCard and access it's content externally.

for those asking you choose macBookPro, if you already own an iPhone, they failed to ask if you're used to WindowsOS or macOS already. yea there should be similar apps in both platforms but if trying to make such switch, you ought be aware of the transition and learning process involved.

Some people are very good with Excel when working from WindowsOS. Give them something from Linux or macOS, and wahala don land.

What if You're a Gamer , or the sort that loves to knows what's happening behind the scene ?

Cost of maintenance nkor ?
