Anyone can. No particular person dedicated to the task. Surprising that not all who gave in their names are present to start off the project. shocked

No do like Tevez for yesterday champions league match o smiley

No lead developers until at least a meeting. Besides, maybe with this project, we can start a trend in Nigeria by not taking on any titles wink

@ yawa
This site will involve a lot of database interaction because things change a lot in this country.
@ all
Regarding the back-end coding, i personally have the following database tables  :- states, country, news, faq, local govt  from some of my former projects and i can simply add more.
Now, i think we (back-end coders) should nominate a team lead, so that we dont duplicate tasks. Lets have a database schema with say 50 tables, yes 50 tables and we call work on like 5 tables each. These 5 tables can be relational.
Eg state, country, local govt are all relational.
I know we understand these points.
Re: Calling On All Web Designers/developers: Redesign Of Nigeria.gov.ng by AbidemiA: 12:03pm On Sep 28, 2011
I will like to suggest a 2hr Skype conference meeting for all backend developers and database administrators between 5.00pm and 11.5pm Nigerian time today (28/09/2011). I am happy to setup the conference group.

Please let me know what you feel.

Thanks.

As we speak, I have sent the back end guys, including you, an email wink

Per your database tables, thanks.  We need to at least meet once before making decisions about leads.  If only, everyone on that mailing list will respond

@All, I'm really sorry, For some reason Nairaland failed to notify me about updates on this thread. I was only able to reply to emails I was sent yesterday via my phone cos my ISP now has a mind of it's own. I'm back now, sha. I apologize once again. We need to model our DB against the sections as described in the specs doc and how do we handle updates to the website. Custom CMS or open source CMS?
Re: Calling On All Web Designers/developers: Redesign Of Nigeria.gov.ng by yawatide(f): 10:39am On Sep 29, 2011
farouq: We need to move this either to our mailing list or facebook. This way, everyone is reading from the same play book

instinctg: Your email address has been corrected. Thanks for pointing it out.
Re: Calling On All Web Designers/developers: Redesign Of Nigeria.gov.ng by dhtml1(m): 5:47pm On Sep 29, 2011
Custom CMS or Custom Framework with be fine. Nothing stops us from doing a content management framework though.

@shy-one:
1) Heed omo-to-dun's advice smiley
2) In what capacity will you be serving? Once you reply, I will add you to the right spot
3) No need to feel disappointed. The important part for this project is that we all finish together wink

@ace1:
There is room for everyone. Worse case, you can help test, once the prior to the site being ready for prime time. Welcome aboard.

^^^

ok - I just had to rejoin facebook

I just sent a request

please list me as an end user - because of time commitment issues - I also fear that I might not have a high-end knowledge base that a majority of other designers and programmers possess.

but I do have a very detail oriented eye and my expertise in detail can serve well in this venture

i also am very influential in circles that could be of use to the group.  I will help however you need and can use me.

I know how to be a good indian - and can follow the chiefs

thanks

Re: Calling On All Web Designers/developers: Redesign Of Nigeria.gov.ng by yawatide(f): 12:19pm On Oct 02, 2011
Weekly Update:

1) Wireframes were completed and approved by the group

2) DBAs drafted a DB Schema and currently those involved are consolidating their respective schemas

3) Now that it has been agreed upon that a custom CMS will be used, Graphics Designers have been given the green light to come up with their mockups. The "winner" will be chosen by the group. This will ensure fairness. Once winning mockup is chosen (October 10, 2011), front end developers will proceed with slicing the home page and 1 inner page, which the back end developers will then use to "do their thing".

Next update in a week. . .

Errm, as per the graphics layout, i wanna know how many people are actually involved, ie how many graphics guys do we have on board that are actually game. Just wanna know my competitors for the winning graphics. My layout will be submitted by tuesday, its currently 75 percent ready.
Re: Calling On All Web Designers/developers: Redesign Of Nigeria.gov.ng by yawatide(f): 11:58pm On Oct 02, 2011
@databoy247
The number of peeps are what you saw in that email I sent you guys last week. Their names and contact info are also on the info sheet that is available at the link pasted on the facebook page. As for competition, I wouldn't worry about that. I would just do my thing and hope for the best.

Good luck! I look forward to your entry.

Your options for updates are 2-fold. Either:
1) You watch this space on Sundays, or
2) Subscribe to the facebook private group (for this option, you will need to be actively involved in the project at some level)

This is to call the attention of everybody to this important message, i just found out that the hacked Nigerian official website is back on the internet. Now, my question is , are we still moving ahead in the redesigning of the website? or what is going to happen, Please let us know

Cheers
Re: Calling On All Web Designers/developers: Redesign Of Nigeria.gov.ng by Nobody: 4:46pm On Oct 05, 2011
http://nigeria.gov.ng - I hate that site! The designers forget to remove the line by right hand side of the logo. The social media links( Facebook, twitter,etc) position on the site is very wrong. Please, it is time Nigerians do something right!Not only that the copyright symbol is question mark - it is as simple as the html --> © . The foot wrapper is hell bad.Jeez! who did that!? I hate it!
Re: Calling On All Web Designers/developers: Redesign Of Nigeria.gov.ng by yawatide(f): 5:11pm On Oct 05, 2011
@clementcro
Your question has been answered in the 7 pages that make up this thread and the facebook closed group page.

In brief:
Our aim is to create a website which is better than the one you are seeing currently. We aren't out to compete with it but to hopefully work with someone who is in charge of it in implementing what we are about to do. Worse case, it receives no attention but we all learn from the process, with respect to how a successful project should be run.

Make sense?

Re: Calling On All Web Designers/developers: Redesign Of Nigeria.gov.ng by databoy247(m): 9:38pm On Oct 05, 2011
I cant actually believe that the footer of Nigeria's official website, specifically "ICT" and the others are actual links to some ads like espresso and wristwatches, Apalling.
Re: Calling On All Web Designers/developers: Redesign Of Nigeria.gov.ng by Nobody: 9:47pm On Oct 05, 2011
I am suspicious the hackers are still the ones running that website. I can't imagine what are there as things coming from the federal govt.!Jeez! I could slap the people in charge!
