Why Maldives? When I go on vacation, I like using one stone to kill many birds.
Like east Africa visa allows you to Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda.
Shenghen visa allows you to 26 countries plus 40+ countries outside it.
Likewise our ECOWAS passport taking us to 14 other countries.
I like such trips.
Vacation and flight are too expensive to waste it just on one country.
If you wan do am, pack like 4 countries together because no one knows when you will have such opportunity again.

I didn't applied because I have analysed myself through the eyes of the visa officer, and calculate my chances. I waited until I was qualified, but then I became European citizen and didn't need a visa to go there again.

You cant japa with tourist, unless you want to embark on a different level of suffering that may wake the dead.

Even those with resident permits are complaining, talking more of someone that is illegal. Obodo oyibo is not like Naija where you will see a signboard of ¨sale girl wanted¨, you will now start work that evening

So to work, unless it is a black job, you have to be legal, with a tax number, health insurance, bank account, registered place of residence etc. If you must japa, then go as a student.

Students don't have the requirements to prove they are coming back. Just secure an admission, an for the next maybe four years (for bachelors), you will be legal to sort your way to citizenship. Thats exactly what I did.

Is there any way a schengen visit visa can be LEGALLY converted to a work permit in any Schengen country just like we have in Canada?

A work permit in Europe is issued after you have received a job from an employer that can sponsor a foreigner. Canada is better because you can get an open work permit, and search for a job in Canada.

So your question about converting a visa to a work permit does not follow the principle of legal certainty.

But if your aim is to remain legal when you are in the Schengen zone as a visitor, then you may just apply to a language school, and change it to a student permit, to buy yourself time like a year.

NB, I don't know if this is still possible now, but when I was in Poland like nine years ago, it was a thing back then. As for Western Europe, forget it, you can't change a visitor to anything.

Except if you apply as a partner/Spouse of an EU citizen, then your immigration status (legal, illegal, visitor, etc.) doesn't matter.
