Teams that do cross browser testing can use metrics to analyse multiple aspects of the user experience. Certain metrics may differ depending on how you do cross browser testing and which platform you use. For every workflow, you can compare how these metrics stack up around various devices and browsers:

Duration

The time it consumes to do the entire user interaction or transaction on the web page, like creating an account.

Step Duration

The time it takes to do a single action like clicking a button, within a larger workflow.

Time to Interactive

The time it consumes for multiple elements on a page to completely load.

Largest Contentful Paint

The time it consumes for the largest aspect of a web page to load properly.

Cumulative Layout Shift

This metric analyses the movement of content on a web page when specific elements like images or videos load later compared to the rest of the page. These unexpected movements can help users to lose their place on a page or click the wrong button.

The last two of these metrics, along with a third usage metric known as First Input Delay, are specifically very beneficial for measuring a website’s performance. Together, they are known as Core Web Vitals, a Google-determined rating that analyses user experience quality on a certain webpage. To track Core Web Vital yourself, you first have to install some APIs on your site. Keep this in mind that some of these APIs are only supported by Chromium browsers- Edge, Chrome, Samsung Internet and Opera. LCP and CLS, for example, cannot be analysed on Safari, Firefox, or Internet Explorer.
