Jesus Has Given You An Assignment by Friendsoftruth(f): 12:52pm On May 06, 2023
Everyday, we say the lord’s prayer. “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.”

Yes, we want God’s kingdom to come and make life better for us, since human leaders have failed to do this.

But do you know that Jesus has given you an assignment to do? Yes, YOU. It is your personal assignment. No one else can do it for you

“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” – Matthew 24:14

This means that God’s Kingdom will not come until the gospel has spread to all corners of the earth. So, it's not enough to just pray for God's Kingdom to come. We have to actively work toward it.

As Christians, each of us has the assignment to go out and tell our neighbors about the gospel. It is my assignment. And it is your assignment too.

When last did you preach the gospel? Today is a good day to tell somebody about Jesus.

But Jesus Christ never said God's Kingdom is meant to come make life better for us. As a matter of fact, it came to burden us with a requirement which involves attaining God's standard of righteousness at all cost. God's Kingdom is meant to cost us everything in life hence the requirement that we be willing to abandon it all -- family, wealth, friends, career/jobs/businesses for His sake. This and more is the assignment that is Jesus Christ. It has absolutely nothing to do with what your so-called human leaders do or can imagine. undecided

I appreciate your input and how you constructed your words in a peaceful way. smiley And while I respect your opinion, I beg to differ.

God’s requirements are in no way burdensome. He is our creator, right? So, He has the right to set the standards of right and wrong.

Remember your childhood. Your parents must have given you rules and principles. Do this, don’t do this!

Some of these rules might be restrictive, but you’ll agree with me that they were for your best interests. Your parents didn't set those rules because they wanted to make life difficult for you or didn't want you to enjoy your childhood.

No, they only set those rules because they love you and want the best quality of life for you. How much more so our heavenly father?

Even the Bible says that God’s commandments are not burdensome. His commandments and requirements might be restrictive, but they’re only for our best interests.

God has asked us not to steal, right? If we do steal and get caught, what will be the outcome? Prison, shame, or even jungle justice. Who'll pay the consequences? God? No, us. cry

God has asked us to flee from sexual immorality. This might seem really restrictive. But if we look at it closely, we’ll see that God is protecting us from STIs, unwanted pregnancies, and more.

Those who live by Bible standards are never in regret, because we are under God’s big umbrella, under his protection. Everything He has commanded us are all for our own good.

1. I never met a child who ever said, of the rules and principles he or she had to endure under his parents, that they were fun and spectacular. What you have now is hindsight that enables you to declare them of great worth, but as you yourself insist there, the rules were restrictive and hindering hence a burden. undecided

2. Which scripture says they are not burdensome? Even Jesus Christ Himself described them as such.
28 “Come to me all of you who are tired from the heavy burden you have been forced to carry. I will give you rest.
29 Accept my teaching.[d] Learn from me. I am gentle and humble in spirit. And you will be able to get some rest.
30 Yes, the teaching that I ask you to accept is easy. The load I give you to carry is light. - Matthew 11 vs 28 - 30

3. Now, you abandoned my original point, however, which is that Jesus Christ did not come to make this life easier or better for any man, so why sell Him as such a deal? He came to call people out of this life — He told them they are to abandon their life, family, friends, reputation, positions, businesses, etc. — in order to be worthy of Him. So how can you offer Him as a better-life deal to any man or woman out there? undecided

It all boils down to personal opinion, I guess. But even though some of my parents rules and principles weren’t exactly fun, I realize that they were meant to protect me. These principles played a role in me becoming a better person. Using myself as an example, my parents made me wake up at 4 a.m. every morning to study my books. I was less than 12 years old at that time, and this rule made me upset because I needed to sleep. But my grades improved significantly, and I was at the top of my class, all through secondary, even in university, I came out as the second best in my department, because every morning, I would still get up at 4 a.m. to study.

That's only one example of how a rule I thought was 'too restrictive' ended up transforming my life for the better. But, as I said, it boils down to your opinion. But the bottom line is that whether restrictive or not, these rules were meant to protect us as children.

2.

I’m glad you quoted Matthew 11:28-30. I might have mentioned these verses as well.

However, I do not see where Jesus says his commandments are burdensome. Instead, he says the exact opposite.

At verse 28, Jesus is offering to give us rest, because we are wrapped up in the anxieties of life. And, at verse 30, he clearly states that his teachings are easy (not difficult) and the load he gives us to carry is light (not burdensome). Exactly the point I was trying to make, which is why I’m glad you quoted this scripture yourself.

You asked about which scripture says that God's commandments are not burdensome. I found one that will definitely interest you:

“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.” --1 John 5:3

Some versions of the Bible use the word burdensome. And others use the word grievous, but the meaning remains the same. I also like the opening phrase of this Bible verse: “For this is what the love of God means.” It implies that if we truly love God, then His commandments will not be a burden to us.

3. Now, you abandoned my original point, however, which is that Jesus Christ did not come to make this life easier or better for any man, so why sell Him as such a deal? I’m sorry if it felt like I was avoiding your original point. You stated that “Jesus Christ never said God’s Kingdom is meant to come make life better for us.”

So, I'd like to bring your attention to a familiar scripture. It’s the same Scripture I quoted earlier. Matthew 6:10: “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.”

We don’t have to look too far because the answer to your question is found in this same Bible Verse.

Jesus has asked us to pray for God’s kingdom to come. Why? Because when God’s kingdom comes, God’s will will finally be done on earth, the same way it is being done in heaven. And remember, God's will is for everyone to enjoy a perfect life forever.

Is there hunger in heaven? No.
Has anyone ever died or gotten sick in heaven? No.
Is there insecurity in heaven? No.

When God's kingdom comes, these blessings that are being enjoyed in heaven will come down to earth as well. So, yes, God's kingdom is meant to come and make life better for us.

1. Who is everyone? According to Jesus Christ, it is only those who are of the Lost sheep of Israel - Matthew 15 vs 22 - 24 & Matthew 7 vs 6 & Matthew 10 vs 5 - 7 - that can partake in the Kingdom of God. Out of those only those of them who go on to become born-again can gain access to the Eternal Kingdom of God, and even then, only those born-agains who stand faithful until the end will get the Eternal reward, Heaven; the rest will end up in Eternal damnation - Matthew 10 vs 22 & Matthew 24 vs 12 - 13 & Mark 13 vs 13 & Matthew 25 vs 31 - 46. So, where is this God's Will that wants everyone to live an eternally perfect life? undecided

2. But you have to give up this very life in order to obtain heaven. Jesus Christ said Heaven is only for those who abandon family, marriage, children, friends, reputation, jobs/businesses, property, life, etc. So, if you are to abandon everything in order to have Jesus Christ, how can you abandon everything in this life and still go on to state that Jesus Christ came to make this life better for any man? undecided
