President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced fuel subsidy removal at his inauguration venue. Boom, price of PMS has gone so high within hours after. In some quarters 400, 550, 650, 1000 per litre and so on. Consequently, fuel scarcity is back, the cues are back, commuters are paying times 3 to get to thier destinations. To put it straight Nigerians have been thrown into another groaning.

I have a question: are we cursed in this nation? Are we the children of a lesser God? In our street parlance who did we offend in Nigeria?

This piece is not intended to disparage anyone or tribe. But I have serious issues with those who still cheer the man Tinubu. I had a heated debate on fuel subsidy today with some guys all from the SW and I was dazed the level of defence for this Ill thought out decision. Although at a point they seemed to agree with some of my point.

I have told those who care to listen, Africans are emotional leaders. They are brainless, thoughtless and careless. Fuel subsidy has been an issue on the front burner for some time now. Personally, I agree that fuel subsidy should be removed. I understand the tendency for us to pay a little more higher when subsidy is removed. So I have no issue with it's removal.

But in all fairness, I have issue with the manner, hasty and irrational way Tinubu removed subsidy. There is something about leadership, it is about foreseeing the likely effect of every action. Leadership is beyond showmanship. It is understanding the pulse of your people and knowing the right or wrong time for certain critical decisions. Tinubu got it all wrong in this instance.

For goodness sake, what stops President Tinubu from resuming office first, pilot the affairs of the nation for at least 3months, engage critical stakeholders on this subject matter before taking a productive decision. By the way, who says subsidy can not be removed gradually to allow the masses adjust to it. For example, the removal can be broken into three phases, and for every quarter or so a phase is removed.

In saner climes, adequate solutions are put in place to cushion the effect of such critical decision. It is only in Africa that the so called leaders are nothing but brainless performers.

It also baffles me how Tinubu in all his acclaimed leadership acumen did not consult first to understand why the man Buhari left subsidy for him or was Buhari not a strong man enough? Take it or you leave it, Tinubu first outing was a total failure.

Considering the hardship Nigerians are already faced with as orchestrated by the failed Buhari government, Tinubu ought to have acted better. But of course what do you expect from a man who believes in jaguda way of doing everything. The statement he made about fuel subsidy was purely out of ignorance and maybe for showmanship.

I laugh at people who have taken it upon themselves to defend Tinubu and in turn blaming oil marketers. Of course what did you expect of these businessmen? To fold their arms and watch you? I agree we are all part of the problem in Nigeria, but that is the unfortunate country we are all locked up in. Be that as it may, Tinubu must not be shielded from this glaringly obvious mess of subsidy removal. The marketers who took advantage of mere pronouncement as some mofos put it are evil but the President must own up to this mes
Again, those suffering and smiling Nigerians who cheer this reckless and ill timely decision my stop now. I understand there are hypocrites and psycophants but not again. We have had one too many already sincerely not anymore.

President Tinubu must justify the mandate he claims he won by writing his name on the sands of time. H can not afford to fail

Tribalism like never seen before is what I'm see among the Nigerian poor especially the Yorubas.

Interestingly, they will suffer the most if subsidy is implemented

The immediate past president did not include subsidy in the new budget scheduled to kick off in June , both top 3 candidates agreed to remove fuel subsidy. Po himself tagged it as 'organized crime'.
Now let's reason logically, if BAT postponed the subsidy to 3 months time, don't you think marketers will create artificial scarcity and hoard fuel to sell at 250% increase in 3 months time?

Imagine ordinary POS merchant turned a god during naira scarcity., 300 charge per N1000, a cash they got free at 0 charge in bank. Now imagine fuel

Obi would have been better than Tinubu, but the truth is, he also said he would remove subsidy too.

Infact all three candidates...including Atiku who was prosubsidy in 2019 , the three main candidates, stated they would remove subsidy. Even the minor candidates. Sowore was the only one who said he won't remove it.

People like you have no brain, when I see statements like these I wonder may be it came from hatred or foolishness, either Yoruba , Ibo or Hausa....it is a know fact that Nigeria has been battling with subsidy and it need to be removed, Jonathan try to do it but he has no balls. Buhari campaign to win using subsidy but still he has no balls, now the only business minded person that is courageous has remove it but your ginringory madness will think is only some set of people that will suffer it. How I wish we have Obi on that seat you would have seen that the man has nothing to offer except excuses and sweet words.

Every intellectual Nigerians knew Obi has nothing to offer to solve Nigeria problems except textbook theories.

Nigeria shall be great again

You are only wailing.

"Wait for 3 months"

Olodo! Where was this tears when Buhari removed subsidy in January?

In case you miss it, Buhari didn't include the fuel subsidy component in the approved budget for 2023 he sent to the National Assembly. FYI, the budget covers June 2023 - June 2024.

Stop piling the blame on Tinubu. It's really sad that the majority of Nigerians know nothing about governance; little wonder they keep electing clown lawmakers. Where was everyone when the lawmakers signed the budget? I mean Buhari cooked a budget without subsidy, no one batted an eye; now that the budget is about kick in after 6 months, una begin wail. Aren't you people stupid? Please answer. Aren't you as citizens clueless?

As a matter of fact, these rants are all because Obi didn't win. If he had won, and he put his money where his mouth is, he would have removed the subsidy *immediately* *like he promised*. The effect would have been same. And FYI again,*there won't have been any subsidy for him to remove* because *Buhari had already removed subsidy in Jan 2023* before *Obi takes power*. Probably these rants would have been coming from Batists and Atiku boys.

All of una hypocrisy stink. You don't care that hardship is in the land because of subsidy removal *which was inevitable and necessary*. The complaints is because the man you desist is handling the affairs. I swear if na Obi, we won't hear pim.

God forbid that we go back to the days of subsidy. Now everyone will sit tight, citizens and leaders. Everyone. The days of laziness is over.*Don't bring that Nigerians are hardworking crap* Going forward, Nigerians will shun mental laziness.

The removal is not biting yet, this is just prelude. When the real pain starts,*like a addict suffering withdrawal symptoms* everyone one will open mouth, protest, pressurized their governors, leaders, president, ministers to do their job. Una see that epileptic power supply, it will fixed and citizens will be ones to jumpstart that process. Una see that #6trn subsidy fund that is now free, na una citizens go monitor am to make sure una leaders use am for the proper projects.

If you're an elected public officer, you better sit tight. The days of nonsense is over. Any leader wey do rubbish next 4 years is going home because the citizens are angry now *they've been pushed to the wall* and they had better see results. Thank God this last election set a precedence that power is indeed in the hands of people.

For citizens, look at the brighter future; the future is bright for the country if Tinubu can implement all his promises. For the first time in like forever, we have a president that knows what he's doing. All we can hope for he that he lands this airplane safely. We are on the right track. But don't sleep, pressurize his government so he won't slack.

Obidients you are doing good as an opposition, keep applying pressure. We pray that PDP wakes up and apply pressure too. Days of laxity is over. Everyone has a part to play.

Like I've said the future is bright. Now is the time prepare yourselves *I'm talking to the hardworking, intelligent, and enterprising*. You will reap the fruit of the land. Just don't get distracted by the noise. Keep your heads down.

Lastly, Buhari before he retired signed some game changing policies. Now states have automy in power generation and distribution. Man-mark your governors to improved power generation. States should look at what Lagos and Ekiti are doing their PPP power projects.

In the new Nigeria, not all states will look the same. We will get to see states with innovative leaders. Men will standout from the boys.

Thanks

What is so hard to understand? There is no money budgeted for subsidy. There is no money period . The era of awoof and nothing for something is over.If you want government services , then you pay for it beforehand .Only then can you complain about the quality and quantity of such services.
It is time to rethink madueke’s advice and get bicycles back into the transportation mix . Most journeys especially in the cities are short and most Nigerians do not own cars .

You are very right.

That's why I said we can only hope he lands safely. The flight is on the right path. Delivery is what we look forward to.

The stock market love the direction were on. 5% daily increase after his inauguration. The highest by far, after the inauguration of any Nigerian president. Those with the money bag knows he's on the right path.

I agree, i feel the president made the statement in the excitement of the moment.
Perhaps he was sending a message to foreign investors that nigeria is open...
All the same it wasnt appropriate for an inauguration day.
