What Has Democracy Offered Us That We Must Have To Defend It? by Jsabigi1: 11:15am On Aug 04, 2023
The wave of Military Coups in Africa in recent years, particularly the French former Colonies is a call for concern.
However, the most recent Coup in Niger Republic has waken the World up and, the ECOWAS is at the heart of a historical mistake that might be impossible to recover from.
Threats to Niger to avert to Democratic governance after the Coup begs for the question of what exactly has Democracy offered us that is so valuable to defend.
THE PACKAGE OF DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA
Democracy is rooted on the motions of
1. Periodic elections to allow citizens voice and checks on Government.
2. Open Market policy
3. Human right
4. Accountability
5. Separation of power and,
6. Other numerous assertions.
In Africa, the essence of Democracy is to open up the African society to allow for Mass harvest of natural resources and the sales of industrial goods from the West.
To this end, Democracy in Africa does not include;
1. Electoral credibility as long as it satisfies the West.
2. The right to life as over 200 citizens could be murdered without government's condemnation.
3. Good governance
4. Economic prosperity for the poor.
The right to quality healthcare
5. The right to quality education.
6. The right to human dignity
7. Developing the society.
8. The right against corruption.
This is evident what we have seen and felt as Africans.
So, why should we defend democracy with our Lives?

Democracy will only work when the people we voted for are declared winners in elections.
As long as people with questionable characters with corrupt money continues to buy their way into power against the will the people; citizens will always feel alienated which will ultimately breed resentment and rebellion.

Under the military you may not even have the opportunity to go on nairaland to vent your spleen and there's nothing you can do about it.
You cannot vote them out of office if you get tired of them which you will eventually.

On top of it all nothing will change soldiers are not the best economic managers.

You can always vote out a corrupt leader and there are layers of check and balances. The damage to the system is minimal compared with a corrupt military leadership.
We have seen it all over Africa, not a single military dictatorship has ever been able to turn around their country for the better.

On whose mandate will the military be forcefully taking power from an elected government and then conduct another election so as to hand over to another person? It is absurd, illegal and a recipe for a serious crisis or war.

nigeria doesn’t end in Igbo land

The same obi that got 94% in d east got less that 10% in d north so what are u talking about?

Obi only won in lagos n lost all in south west , obi won all in south east, he didn’t win all in south south, tried his best in north central n was lost in north west n north east

So how did obi win?

Obi wasn’t present in 3 out of 6 regions so how can he win?
Tinubu was present in 5 out of 6 regions
Tinubu won over 25% in 24 states

Please list 24 states that obi had 25%

Please let’s avoid insult n have reasonable discussion for once

Don’t talk about tribunal cos obi didn’t mention it at d tribunal
