There is another game called FIVES.
Oyinbo people play it with hand.

Me i don tire for Oyinbo people, upon all these centuries they interacted with Africans, they have refused to take any of our sports to olympics.

Tenteh
Langalanga
Ayo
Borees
Bojuboju
And many like that...

Rugby and cricket aren't African games... Isn't even African origin...
And besides, Rugby is a winter sport... These are not African games....

Very few exposed African individuals has the idea of the game...
Says who? South Africa is holding the record. They just won their fourth World Cup two days ago by defeating New Zealand in the epic final. They defeated England in semi final. Infact, they just won the World Cup back to back.

Yes do you understand how the game cricket and rugby works? Because it seems majority of nigerians don't understand those games..
I see that some people have explained rugby so let me try and explain cricket as best as I can because I'm a fan of both sports.

Cricket is played by 11 players on each team. In a team there usually is a batsman(the person you see holding a piece of wood and wearing a helmet),a wicketkeeper batsman(the guy you see standing behind those three sticks),a bowler(the person throwing the small ball),and an all-rounder(a person who can bat and can bowl as well). A bowler can either be a fast bowler or a spin bowler(spin bowlers are those guys that when they throw the ball it turns).

The team is arranged on the preference of the coaches and captain. For example a team can have 4 batsmen including the wicketkeeper batsman,3 all-rounders and 4 bowlers.

There are different forms of cricket. There is test cricket, where they wear white and use red ball, and it can be played for as long as 5 days. There is also one day cricket which is where they wear the coloured clothing and use the white ball. One day cricket can either be ODI or T20 cricket.

Using T20 as an example, this means each team is allowed to bat for 20 overs,if the weather allows them. This is determined by a coin toss, and the team that wins the toss will choose if they want to bat first or bowl first.

In an over, there are 6 deliveries. A delivery is when the bowler runs to the crease(that rectangular piece of ground where the batsmen stay) and throws the ball at the batsman.

The score is in this format,100/3. The first number,100 is the number of runs the team batting has scored. The second number,3 is the number of wickets the team bowling has, which means the number of batsmen they have gotten out.

If the bowler throws the ball at the batsman and he hits the ball out of the pitch it is 6 runs. If it touches the ground or rolls on the ground before it reaches the edge of the pitch it is 4 runs. If the ball is rolling on the pitch but it is caught before it reaches the edge, the batsmen can score runs by running between the stumps(sticks) in the middle.

If the bowler throws the ball and the batsman hits it and a member of the opposing team catches it before it touches the ground then it is a wicket. If the bowler throws the ball and it touches the bat(wood) of the batsman and the wicketkeeper catches it then it is a wicket. If the bowler throws the ball but the batsman hits it and they start running, but the opposing team throws the ball to hit the sticks before the batsman reaches the white line, then it is a wicket known as run out. If the bowler throws the ball but it hits the leg of the batsman in front of the sticks,it will be checked to see if the ball will hit the sticks or not. If it hits the sticks it is also a wicket.

A team will complete their own batting when they have used all the number of overs to score runs,or if the opposing team gets 10 wickets, whichever one happens first. The winner is determined by the team that has scored the most number of runs.

I hope this is clear now. Cheers

Great explanation though some persons may still not understand.

I'm a big cricket fan. Played the sport in primary and secondary school. Cricket is the only sport I watch.

Rooting for South Africa to win this ongoing world cup as my favourite England have messed up.

They are running to cross their opponent's goal line to drop the ball and score points.

During that process you see the defending team trying to get the ball from the team with the ball and it becomes physical because once your opponent crosses your goalline they already get 5 points and once that the same player drops the ball to the ground in the opponent goal line he is awarded a try which is 2 points.

So a team can score 7 points each time they cross an opponent's goal line. The team with the highest points wins the game.

While a normal Rugby game is 40 minutes each half, Rugby sevens which consist of 7 players is 7 minutes each.

Don't worry, Rugby Sevens Olympic qualifiers tournament is this month and Nigeria will partake in it. Once you watch it you will understand it. Rugby is easy to understand, the one am still trying to understand is cricket.

What kind of boring and lame game is this?

Nigerians don't play this kind of sports.

My wife saw how I was supporting and celebrating the SA team and shook her head in disbelief. Her only comment was: SEE HOW MAN U performance over the years DON MAKE MY HUSBAND HATE FOOTBALL cheesy cheesy cheesy

Last time I watched football was back in 2010 during the FIFA world cup in SA, and I only watched it because it was in SA... grin grin grin... We had long school holidays that year because of the world cup.

And funny enough, even though I don't know much about cricket and rugby, I just happen to know more SA rugby and cricket players compared to SA football players.
its not surprising you know more rugby players than football players I know rugby is huge in South Africa, i saw a documentary a while back about the captain of the rugby team, he talked about the racism he faces being married to a white woman in south Africa, even when the team won the rugby world cup, I saw on Instagram how charlize Theron and other SA celebs celebrated the springboks. The only sports that carries national attention here is football.

I once watched this other video of a black South African female YouTuber also making racist comments about Siya's wife, I didn't like it one bit and we ended up arguing on the comment section... grin grin grin

I mean Siya's wife is also a South African, she was born and raised here, even if she was a foreign national, I still wouldn't see anything wrong with it because we all have our own preferences... I don't understand why people feel the need to be racist against interracial couples here in SA as if it's a new thing... Interracial relationships have been happening for a very long time in this country to a point that we have Coloured communities, who resulted from those relationships.

Do you guys have rugby though?

Netball is different from Handball. Is not that popular because less than 100 countries are the ones doing the sports and is only popular in the South and Eastern Africa region.

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ there is even a federation for it? And they get budgetry allocation, it's a complete waste of resources, If you are that good at netball why not just play basketball and make more money and fame, it just seems like a game for those who failed in basketball or maybe a secondary school inter-house sport game. Thank God there is no tournament for boys.

the dude is even a philanthropist, he gives back to his his community, such athletes need to be protected, it hurts more when the criticism comes more from his own community and race, I think we have a rugby team, but they are largely unknown, underfunded, the game is practically non-existent here in our social lives, the beautiful game we all love, football we still struggle to develop it as a nation, in SA between football and Rugby which is a bigger sport? I think football is more popular in the black communities of south Africa.
Re: At Your Age'' Do You Understand How Cricket And Rugby Works... by Nobody: 12:02pm On Oct 31, 2023
In the early 2000s football was a much bigger sport within the black communities... But as years went by and some black South Africans started showing interest in playing rugby, the black communities started slowly paying attention to it.

But now rugby has made its mark in this country and I can say that it's now a bigger sport nationally... And yes, football is popular within the black communities, townships and villages to be specific, but that doesn't mean they don't like rugby, they just never got the opportunities to be exposed to the sport and learn how it really works, while football has always been a dominant sport within those communities.

But I like the fact that rugby is bigger than football because it just unites the entire country and I love it.

I played cricket during my secondary school days as a compronian
That's comprehensive high school ayetoro Ogun state yewa north .
It was a great experience traveling form one state to another.
No insecurity issues then and it was fun getting to meet people and learn about their culture and all.

the reason you think Rugby unites south Africa more is because they have achieved greater success than the bafana bafana, if the bafana bafana is playing at the world cup final today I think it would equal or have more impact than Rugby.
