Good Day Niairalanders,

I am caught in a dilemma currently. I am currently working for a top telecom agency as a sales agent. The job is extremely demanding (monday-sunday). Although the salary is not much, I have been able to sustain my family with it because of some tips I get there.

I recently secured another job in tech which is what I have passion for and less demanding with future hope of something better but with a lower salary

Should I forfeit a known for unknown which I don't know the outcome yet or just continue with the job I have less interest in?

I am confused now because Nigeria's economy is not smiling. I need help please 🙏🙏🙏

Passion will take you anywhere you want to be!

When you have passion for your trade, you not working but having fun!

Passion will drive you to growth and give you that inquisitiveness to want to know more. Passion gives you a clear imagination of the future, and drives you towards that same path!

Well, passion depends on factors bro.
Back then, passion was just d order of d day but right now no more passion in so many things.
Look at football and music as an example, back in d days, most of those ballers and musicians sang for d passion, money was never part of d show, now what do we have
Then, when u talk about passion, there are factors that one has consider.
A passionate married man without money and married man with money but no passion.l, check d difference. Had it being d passion is to startup ur own business that would hv being a difference but u can't be talking about passion while working for a company.
Many employees with passion were later dismissed by their company

1. When choosing a career or means of income, it is better to choose from a place of individual sovereignty, freedom to pursue your ambitions, and peace of mind.

Jobs don't offer these privileges, even though only a few pay huge amounts as salaries and allowances.

2. Life can take any dimension. It doesn't take note of your plans and strategies. Just like the rise and fall of ocean tides at will. What you do is notice the changes and keep deciphering ways to maneuver and stay afloat.

3. If both jobs pay approximately the same salary, better to move permanently into the tech field. You love it and it is a field with infinite opportunities.

Perhaps, if you can manage both that'll be good (just joking though). What about outsourcing and getting a percentage from anyone? Is there any chance of that?

4. Preferably, it is better to suffer on your terms with your freedom and peace of mind intact than to work from Monday - to Sunday, like a "while loop" with pay that can't cater to your needs conveniently.

Ask yourself this question: Can your annual salary in 10 years build a standard bungalow, assuming you didn't spend a dime?

This is a litmus test to use in choosing a career or one that has a great opportunity for growth despite a high or low salary.

5. Don't fear the unknown. Life is all about challenges. Fear the outcome of not trying than relinquishing because of the uncertainty of the adventure.

You alone can carry your cross.

Thanks.

I looked into the future and looked at the map of Africa but couldn't find Nigeria on it. This means that Nigeria's disintegration would come sooner than you expect.

I see Nigeria breaking into 7 different countries, I see the name Nigeria fading away from memory.

About your job, I see you abandoning it and traveling to Europe by see, I see authorities rescuing you on this high sea.

This I have seen.

One of the lessons from the book 'The Art of the Deal' by Donald Trump, is that IF YOU ARE NOT ENJOYING WHAT YOU ARE DOING, IT'S UNLIKELY YOU'LL BE SUCCESSFUL AT IT

For instance, I am an A.I Engineer and two of my passions are coding and teaching, Few weeks back, i built a machine learning classification model from scratch that accurately predict the appropriate category for each Nairaland post. And i am willing to teach anyone how i do it for free. Shoot me an email

OP, go and check out this post: it just made frontpage few minutes ago-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z8Z4dvgE80

the banker in the post and the young man (imade) wearing the white shirt in this conversation is in EXACTLY your situation. The banker quit his job to follow his passion. So also did the guy in white. Now, pay attention to the advice he was given. And note the summary at the end.

I am certain it was meant exactly for you.

You're welcome.

In your situation going for your passion is riskier

If you dont take this risk(first step) you gain nothing.
If you take the risk You already have an idea of what you stand to gain

With the current economic situation, one would advise you to choose money, but the truth is that happiness is more important over money...you will be more happier doing the things you love.

So I'd go for passion over money.

Well... Personally, my passion makes me good money (Writing).

That doesn't stop me from earning wages from my career.

At the end of the day, it's all about balance...!

The rule is not to resign or leave your main income source to pursue dreams until you are truly ready to brave the odds...

It goes without saying that you must be 120% sure that you know where you are going with that passion.

If you are only looking for a job you love, then you are not ready for success. Every good thing comes with a sacrifice. Stop listening to motivational speeches that have no foundation in reality.

1. First off, this decision also concerns your spousal consideration and support.

2. Is the lower salary going to sustain both of you even if it means the necessary basic needs. And is she working too or able to adjust?

3. If not, wait and get her to get some thing doing as well even if it is remotely.

4. Passion is the best option especially when you're building yourself to keep improving. It might take a while but with prayer and diligence, it will certainly take you before kings.

Recently I left my job which i was paid over 150k MONTHLY just to sit at home and study and practice a skill that i know eventually it will pay off my whole one year salary in 2-3 months.

It was never easy at the begining i must Tell you. My elder brother taught i was stupid, my collagues at work mocked me but honestly this few weeks i just feel so much satisfied cos i literally have the knowledge that can sustain me for the next 50yrs.

I always tell my self this. ITS BETTER TO WEAR ONE SHIRT AND ONE TROUSER AND CARRY INFORMATION WORTH MILLIONS IN YOUR HEAD.. ITS VERY STUPID TO LOOK EXPENSIVE ON THE OUTSIDE AND NOTHING EXPENSIVE INSIDE YOUR HEAD.

I FEEL SO FUFILLED THIS FEW WEEKS AFTER I RESIGNED FROM WORK OF 150K MONTHLY TO SETTLE DOWN AND STUDY FOR THE PASSION THAT BURNS INSIDE OF ME...

I could remember telling my closest family members and pastors about my plans and Everyone of them were all just advising me to keep it safe.. come and see how humans are , none were like
"wow this passion you have, that you want to rezign from your CURRENT job how much do you need fora start-up so that i can support you" .. this alone self will tell you that starting from the bottom is hard cos its rare to see people who will literally key into your passion, you just have to take your own balls by the hand and have faith in what you do

I GAVE MY SELF TIME, AT LEAST BEFORE DECEMBER THERE WILL BE A DIFFERENCE.

Following your passion becomes dangerous when you don't create a structured plan.

And if you are so scared to take those bold steps, at the later part of your years here on earth you will be left with regrets upon regrets.

Remember, we only die once , so make sure you live this life to the fullest, dare to take those bold decision's that you know will take you to that desire and dream life you wish to enjoy.

Follow your passion, start building and before u know it the results at the end outweigh all the labour and SACRICICES.

But very importantly, plan and follow the plan. If it fails, replan and follow the plan
