Sometimes you have to stoop low to conquer.
If you are sure that the tech job has better prospects, then you may switch job. However, a critical question to ask is this: what do you have that can sustain you while you stoop low? Does your wife have a good income to support you in the meantime? Do you have some savings to augment you during this time? Do you have family members that can sustain you?
If your answers are no, then stay in your current job. Survival is more important than passion....

If it is less demanding? how can u put that free time to good use.

also when u say something the new job has potential u need to elaborate so we know if it's worth it. Potential is only potential until it can translate to work, money, energy or value.

Good Day Niairalanders,

I am caught in a dilemma currently. I am currently working for a top telecom agency as a sales agent. The job is extremely demanding (monday-sunday). Although the salary is not much, I have been able to sustain my family with it because of some tips I get there.

I recently secured another job in tech which is what I have passion for and less demanding with future hope of something better but with a lower salary

Should I forfeit a known for unknown which I don't know the outcome yet or just continue with the job I have less interest in?

I am confused now because Nigeria's economy is not smiling. I need help please πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Love brings fulfilment which is the end of our work. Passion is the the offspring of love. Whatever you love you engage passionately. Growth naturally follows.

Do not concern yourself with money. Rather love what you do. There us always money in love.

You're married and don't have the luxury of testing unknown waters.

This stability your family enjoys with your current salary should be sustained by all means. You can only move to something that pays better or keep grinding it as it is

Go for your passion as you will derive joy working and making money. You will learn faster and grow financially better as you put more energy to the new job.

You have to put figures to these things before we can tell what may be right for you.

In some cases it may be right to evaluate your situation and move around your passion a little bit, in some cases u can go for money as d money will help you realign with your passion in the nearest future. In some cases the money is just not worth it.

So put the figures involved

Will passion pay your bills? Passion without money will turn to frustration. Make money and later do passion as hobby .
Re: Passion VS Money - I Need Your Advice by stankezzy: 3:39pm On Sep 04, 2023
D word passion is for oyibo people, in Africa d word passion doesn't exist, forget about motivational speakers , most of d work or trade that people do , there are no passion in it , only money that pushes people into it, d richest Nigerian and also d richest black man in d world dangote is saleing salt , and cement , just tell me which passion there is in saleing salt or cement, may weather that is d boxing champion may not have passion for boxing because it wounds and hurts yet he is into it because he makes millions from it, forget about what u read online, go for what will give u immediate money, anything can happen any time, we all need money for us and our family

Recently I left my job which i was paid over 150k MONTHLY just to sit at home and study and practice a skill that i know eventually it will pay off my whole one year salary in 2-3 months.

It was never easy at the begining i must Tell you. My elder brother taught i was stupid, my collagues at work mocked me but honestly this few weeks i just feel so much satisfied cos i literally have the knowledge that can sustain me for the next 50yrs.

I always tell my self this. ITS BETTER TO WEAR ONE SHIRT AND ONE TROUSER AND CARRY INFORMATION WORTH MILLIONS IN YOUR HEAD.. ITS VERY STUPID TO LOOK EXPENSIVE ON THE OUTSIDE AND NOTHING EXPENSIVE INSIDE YOUR HEAD.

I FEEL SO FUFILLED THIS FEW WEEKS AFTER I RESIGNED FROM WORK OF 150K MONTHLY TO SETTLE DOWN AND STUDY FOR THE PASSION THAT BURNS INSIDE OF ME...

I could remember telling my closest family members and pastors about my plans and Everyone of them were all just advising me to keep it safe.. come and see how humans are , none were like
"wow this passion you have, that you want to rezign from your CURRENT job how much do you need fora start-up so that i can support you" .. this alone self will tell you that starting from the bottom is hard cos its rare to see people who will literally key into your passion, you just have to take your own balls by the hand and have faith in what you do

I GAVE MY SELF TIME, AT LEAST BEFORE DECEMBER THERE WILL BE A DIFFERENCE.

Following your passion becomes dangerous when you don't create a structured plan.

And if you are so scared to take those bold steps, at the later part of your years here on earth you will be left with regrets upon regrets.

Remember, we only die once , so make sure you live this life to the fullest, dare to take those bold decision's that you know will take you to that desire and dream life you wish to enjoy.

Follow your passion, start building and before u know it the results at the end outweigh all the labour and SACRICICES.

But very importantly, plan and follow the plan. If it fails, replan and follow the plan

Passion will take you anywhere you want to be!

When you have passion for your trade, you not working but having fun!

Passion will drive you to growth and give you that inquisitiveness to want to know more. Passion gives you a clear imagination of the future, and drives you towards that same path!

truer words have never been said, if only folks understand the power of passion in career choices, anything not powered by passion, will always see you struggle aimlessly to attain any height.

How much is the difference?
Re: Passion VS Money - I Need Your Advice by Aremson14(m): 4:08pm On Sep 04, 2023
CaveAdullam:
1. When choosing a career or means of income, it is better to choose from a place of individual sovereignty, freedom to pursue your ambitions, and peace of mind.

Jobs don't offer these privileges, even though only a few pay huge amounts as salaries and allowances.

2. Life can take any dimension. It doesn't take note of your plans and strategies. Just like the rise and fall of ocean tides at will. What you do is notice the changes and keep deciphering ways to maneuver and stay afloat.

3. If both jobs pay approximately the same salary, better to move permanently into the tech field. You love it and it is a field with infinite opportunities.

Perhaps, if you can manage both that'll be good (just joking though). What about outsourcing and getting a percentage from anyone? Is there any chance of that?

4. Preferably, it is better to suffer on your terms with your freedom and peace of mind intact than to work from Monday - to Sunday, like a "while loop" with pay that can't cater to your needs conveniently.

Ask yourself this question: Can your annual salary in 10 years build a standard bungalow, assuming you didn't spend a dime?

This is a litmus test to use in choosing a career or one that has a great opportunity for growth despite a high or low salary.

5. Don't fear the unknown. Life is all about challenges. Fear the outcome of not trying than relinquishing because of the uncertainty of the adventure.

You alone can carry your cross.

Thanks.
Thanks for this, I also really needed this …nobody will help you carry your cross

My brother, go for passion. It’s quite dumb to ask this question but I can understand our background as Nigerians. We don’t really know what passion means. All we care about is money and money. Passion makes you live a fulfilled life without fear. Passion will take you places you never imagine. My brother, don’t make that mistake.

Working monday to Sunday is no job, its slavery and sooner or later, it will take its toll. You men like to think you are strong and indestructible yet check the stats... men are dying younger and younger and leaving their families behind to carry on without them. Be wise.
