KOGI STATE, Nigeria - October 12, 2023 - Murtala Yakubu, popularly known as Muri, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate for Kogi State, now faces scrutiny for what many are labeling as alarming hypocrisy. Despite his promise to rehabilitate Kogi Governor's thugs and grant them amnesty, his own history is marred by allegations of being the number one recruiter of thugs who have wreaked havoc and violence in the state.

Muri's association with alleged thugs and his history of empowering them to commit violent acts against Kogi residents are raising serious concerns. One notable example is his connection with the late Okwo, who ultimately met his end at the hands of the Joint Task Force (JTF).

Recent events have only added to the growing distrust. SDP thugs, allegedly linked to Muri, have been implicated in the deaths of Kogi residents, particularly targeting Igala youth. The Igala community, in particular, has experienced the brutality of thugs reportedly sponsored by Muri, with tragic incidents during the 2019 election still etched in memory. 10 Igala youths killed so far in 2023 in fights between SDP & APC.

The stark contrast between Muri's promises of rehabilitation and his history as a purported thug recruiter and enabler underscores the concerns regarding his sincerity and commitment to the well-being of Kogi State. Residents and observers alike are left questioning whether these promises are an attempt to whitewash his past or a genuine commitment to peace and security in the state.
