ACN Sweeps LG Polls As LASIEC Releases Official Results

The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN has won by landslide the Chairmanship and Councillorship elections held in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria at the weekend.

In the results announced officially by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC this evening, the ACN won all the Chairmanship seats in the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs of the state.

Announcing the result, LASIEC Chairman, Retired Justice Adeyinka Abdulfatai said the ACN satisfied the provisions of the LASIEC law and had emerged victorious in the polls being disputed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

He disclosed that the ACN also won 355 councillorship seats out of the 376 seats contested while the PDP won 18 seats and the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, won two seats while the councillorship election for Ward H in Mushin Local Government was inconclusive.

Abdulfatai stated that details of the breakdown of the results would made available to newsmen tomorrow while the details would also be displayed at LASIEC’s office, the 20 LGs and 37 LCDAs.

He also disclosed that 28 parties contested the council polls; 250 candidates for the chairmanship position and 1,145 candidates for the councillorship position.

Abdulfatai appeared to have shot himself in the leg when he said that once the returning officer for any local government had declared the results of the poll, he did not have the power to nullify it, adding that the LASIEC office only receive the results already declared by the returning officers.

When confronted with the question that it was captured on tape when a LASIEC official in Badagry Local Government announced the PDP candidate winner, the LASIEC boss could not provide an answer, saying that anyone aggrieved should go to the electoral tribunal set up by the Chief Judge of the state to handle such petitions.

“Aggrieved parties should go to tribunal for redress. The Chief Judge has set up election appeal tribunal because there is likelihood that some might want to go to court to seek redress,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Elders’ Council of the PDP has accused the ACN and LASIEC of alleged manipulation of the election.

Commenting on the outcome of the council polls, the State Chairman of the Elders’ council, Dr Oluyomi Finnih described the conduct of the polls as unsatisfactory.

“We find it very important to react to the regrettable handling of the local government elections conducted last Saturday by the LASIEC in collaboration with the Lagos state government. We want to state that the process has not been satisfactory, a development which portends danger for our democracy.

“As widely reported in the media, the election was marred by noticeable abuses through rigging and violence. Yet, we are pleased that Lagosians who are hard hit by the poor performance of the local councils did exercise their civic duty by voting for the Peoples Democratic Party.

“This trend was a public knowledge all over the state and we hereby thank these concerned Lagosians who came out to identify with the cause of change. And we are delighted at the results so far released, which affirmed our enthusiasm that Lagosians are ready for change and actually voted for change at the last local government election,” he stated.

Similarly, the PDP alleged that it won the chairmanship election in five councils, namely, Ikoyi/Obalende, Eredo, Shomolu, Agbado Oke-Odo and Badagry Local Government.

You think changing the results overnight is a victory? Criminals will never change.
The reading out of the PDP victory yesterday by LASIEC was caught on tape, but by magic that result has changed overnight. You are toying with an uprising.

"Progressives"

What can one expect from a party led by a fraud, drug baron and "Toronto" certificate holder?
The entire election will be cancelled.

I am disappointed in Lagos state. They seemed to have learnt from PDP. I was expecting them to set the pace. The retired judge disappointed me. He obviously knew something was not right.

Fire must be fought with fire, ultimately.

If you see 84%+ turnout, 99% voting for one guy in certain parts of the country, don't be surprised if other political parties then learn from these crooked techniques.

It is unfortunate, but that is life I guess.

Anyway, this Lagos poll evidently was even commended by international observers. Just like the 84%+ turnout, 99% voting election grin

So if one is accepted, presumably the other should be accepted too.

Like Asiwaju Bola Tinubu said>>>>>>>>

There’s no PDP in Lagos –Tinubu

He said the PDP does not exist in Lagos and that it was too early to reach a verdict about voter apathy and voter manipulation. Tinubu made these comments in a chat with newsmen shortly after casting his vote in Ikeja on Saturday.

“They started crying foul even before voting started. They just woke up to the fact that the LCDAs exist. They don’t have the people. But I am glad they are in the race. This is the beauty of democracy. We did our campaign, we created awareness among the citizens about their right to vote.”

While reacting directly to the unfounded allegations of rigging elections, Asiwaju Tinubu described the PDP as master riggers. “They don’t know how to conduct elections. Look at the 2007 elections with the hundreds of litigations and overturned PDP victories at the courts and tribunals.”

This below is based on mere mouthings that mean very little. In particular you say there is no internal democracy. Which party has internal democracy? None.

At least ACN is honest enough to tell you that the national leadership is going to select the best hands they can find and let them contest against those from other parties.

PDP the big thiefing party "pretends" it is practicing internal democracy only so it would not be clear who is responsible for the failures that follow elections. Were you not here when Atiku & GEJ played a game of dollars before GEJ won the election? Are you telling me that the PDP candidates in Lagos were chosen by merit? Or do you want people to vote for APGA who even before getting its candidates on the ballot proclaimed how certain sections of the country are getting ready to take over Lagos. If anyone goes anywhere in the country and says that he deserves to be handed a sound defeat.

Not supporting any act of rigging, but if people voted for ACN then it is clear that neither PDP nor APGA were viable alternatives - and the reasons are clear.

Tinubu needs to start watching his back. Himself, Aregbesola and other ACN tyrants robbing Lagos State of development at the grassroots had better start watching it. What goes around comes around. They should go and ask Gaddaffi! People are REALLY pissed at them right now. Even ACN people that felt that the candidates were imposed on them by Bola Tinubu. His downfall will come from within his own party. They worked hard against him everywhere, but, with DPOs and the state commissioner of Police in his pocket, there was little people could do.

Tinubu is going down, and if Fashola stands with him, so is he.

Truth be told, the outer parts of Lagos have yet to see the transformation going on in central Lagos. I hope though that the people of Lagos will stop and think. What needs to happen is to make sure that they hold the LGA chairs to task this time around.

However, they cannot afford to throw out the baby with the bath water. Don't get too greedy too fast. The alternatives, particularly PDP, has being in charge longer than ACN and has nothing to show - NOT AT THE CENTER, NOT THE STATES AND NOT AT THE LOCAL LEVEL. It would be jumping from frying pan into the fire.

Eko_ile, Gbawe, seant - putting asides our political affiliations and perceived or proven bad character of political leaders. I want to ask you a few questions.
1: Did you participate actively or passively in the recent LGA Elections
2: What is your honest (non-biased) opinion of the performance of LASIEC Officials at the polling center you voted
3: ETI-OSA LG results are yet to be counted - LASIEC Officials walked out and have not collated the results till-date, yet Wale Adeniji has been declared the winner with poll results to boot. What is your view on this

I have never been passionately involved in any election than the recent LG elections in my entire political life. I am a card-carrying member of the PDP representing WARD L2. From Saturday till last night I have been returning each day to the Council offices to protect ballot papers that unidentified armed men purportedly from the SSS have tried to take away. Youths from Lagos Island arrived yesterday with machetes and guns, Senator Obanikoro was shot at and injured in the leg (lucky for him), fingers of a PDP member were cut and a representative of the Hausa Community was beaten to unconsciousness.

These events do not fit the picture you passionately paint online (and offline I assume), I was there first hand and the only reason I am grateful this morning is that I made it out alive.

I recognize that you are a long-standing member on NL whose political discussions indicate that you are a man of intellect and passion. I will also wish to implore you and fellow NL members who are active ACN party supporters/members to look at the matter of elections in new light. Positive performance is the most important value an Elected Public Official is Obligated to deliver to the people who voted him into power. I have lived in Ikoyi since 1995, I walked with Tai Solarin, Rioted with Sowore and Malcom Fabiyi in our Aluta days, and Pelted the Police with stones and kerosine-filled bottles trying to unseat Abacha. I was passionate about the NADECO Agenda and Tinubu was my hero-in-exile. It saddens me greatly that we have turned the opportunity to recover a great deal of years stolen by Military Dictatorship and Corrupt leadership. The LG Elections is the Grassroots Empowerment Engine, the real connection between the People and their Leaders at the State Level. I cannot speak for the performance of recently announced Chairmen and Councillor results, but I can say this for Ikoyi/Obalende Constituency, PDP won all Council seats and the Chairmanship fair and scare. I now understand the heart-ache that the cheated feel when injustice is dealt to them. Even if PDP were to go to court, the Lagos State Chief Justice will seemingly forget that ETI-OSA votes for which results were announced by the LASIEC Chairman are still yet to be collated.

Is this the future of elections in Lagos?
