Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven – Matthew 5:10

Standing up for what is right is not always simple, especially when you face insult, abuse, gossip, or other negative words as a result of being sincere.

However, Jesus gave us hope when he made this promise, among others, regarding God’s Kingdom: Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you – Matthew 5:11-12

You will be blessed for standing up for what is right, for trusting in God’s Word, and for defending those who cannot defend themselves.

Jesus’ disciples, the ones hearing these words, could suffer because of their beliefs. They may be persecuted for doing things differently: for loving their neighbors, fighting for sexual purity, fighting for what is right, and most of all, for saying Jesus is Lord.

You will therefore be blessed for standing up for what is right, no matter what it costs you. Remember that God’s kingdom is yours!
