I travelled to Kano, Katsina and Kaduna recently and I was very cautious because I've been told that drinking alcohol is not allowed in the northern part of the country except in southern dominated part of sabon gari but to my shock and surprise I saw people, I mean hausa men (mallams) smoking in different parts and shops in the city centre. In fact in Katsina, almost every corner, smoking is taking place.



I was curious I asked someone, the person told me in Islam cigarette is allowed but alcohol is not allowed. That got me confused that is why I Wana ask Muslims in the house the true picture of the situation, the reason why Islam condemns alcohol but allows cigarette smoking.

That is why I'm asking for clarifications. Coz in the city centres men were smoking freely but alcohol is banned. So I'm not cleared I wanna know more.

Well, Cigarettes are made from tobacco, and tobacco has been smoked long before Muhammad was born.

Alcoholic drink is any drink that contains ethanol as a result of fermentation. Mohammed would obviously have talked against the alcoholic drink existing in his time and vicinity, seeing the effects on human.

There was never a record of Tobacco leaves outside the American world pre Columbus. If you have the evidence, please I would like you to provide it sir

In the southern part, many Muslim guys drink alcohol but I'm not sure of northern guys.
