The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Council Area, Hon. ThankGod Anagor (JP), has issued a statement warning residents planning to set tires and flammable materials on the road ahead of the crossover night on the 31st of December 2023 to desist from such actions or face the full wrath of the law.

He made this disclosure during a routine supervision and sanitation exercise around the popular Eke-Awka market axis, down to Dike Park, Amawbia, and the local government headquarters, respectively.

Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Anagor frowned at the regular annual practice of burning tires on the road, which, according to him, affects the structure of the roads, causing them to wear out easily and not last for their stipulated lifespan.

He equally added that the sanitation exercise was initiated to keep the Awka South Council Area clean ahead of the new year and urged residents to ensure proper disposal of their waste items.

Lending his voice, the commander of Dobe Awka Ocha Enforcement Team, Prince Henry Ikechukwu Ndigwe, commended the Awka South Transition Committee Chairman for his dedication and commitment to duty, noting that Awka is lucky to be blessed with a hardworking mayor."
