most people get d notion dat we dont believe in heaven, most forget dat Jehoveh God lives in d heavens so automATICALLY WE believe there is heaven. but dont mistake the fact that the bible in rev. 14 :1-5 mentioned d number of people going to heaven and the criteras that are to be meant if u are one of them. Ask many why they are going to heaven but they dnt have answer or even have clue abt what they want to do there. rev.20:4-6, 1 cor 6:2,rev 5:10 clearly stated d work of the 144k going to heaven.if they are going to rule in heaven, who are they going to rule upon? animals, no but billions of righteous people dat have obey God's commandment. Through the bible Jehovah's witnesses believe in heaven n that limited people are going to rule with Christ over the earth in God's kingdom. AT Freecocoa, which publications are u studying? If its bible teach, in page 17, paragraph 22-24, it says well meaning friends would want to discourage you from u being closer to Jehovah, but dont let anybody hinder you from having the best friend in the universe.
i can assure u a million percent that u wont regret being a witness and its even a protection as u will discover. can u drop yr mail address if u dont mind.

quote from shushu (f)

The summary of the above is,please stop looking to any organised religion to find God.Speak to him, ask him to reveal himself to you.For now stop stressing out about whether you should become a witness or pentecostal or whatever-who came up with all these names anyway?

God is not in any one sect. I have met genuine lovers of God in the Anglican church-even though they ordain man-lover ministers these days and the list is endless.
You discover God first and let him lead you.

^^^
Best response thus far!

Personal relationship with God is the key thing here!
God is not far from each one of us, for in Him we live, move and have our being, says Paul in Acts 17. You will discover as you honestly open your mind up to Him that He is even more eager for you to know Him than you are to. This foundation is very important because of the present time we live in, so that when you eventually find a church you are comfortable with, that root you have in God will make sure that you are not swayed by any pretender.

DrugDoc:

Go and read the Arab Muslims books, they are full of commands to kill other human beings because God told them to.  The JWs will tell you those religions are devil inspired and Jehovah has perfectly good reasons for killing Amalekite babies in the bible.  Well so does Boko Haram.  You are all the same.   Why are you squabbling over other peoples politics and religion, Arab, Jewish and European?  Is Oduduwa mentioned in the bible? Is Lagos or Benin there? Why are you following something not meant for you?

ya african forefathers and their Gods were so stupid, greedy and powerless that they sold their inheritance 2 missionaries.

Your logic sucks especially in this 20th century. I suggest you consult the asatani himself 4 solutions.

its obvious that you dont even have faith in the decision you want to take, with such mind set,you will always find yourself changing from one church to another searching for acceptance and truth, you do not need nairaland before you can take a decision regarding your faith, your decision shouldnt be based on public preferences or acceptance but rather your heart, your heart is ur heaven,

My dear, it sounds so much like you have made up your mind  to join them because you think they know the bible. As far as you are concern they are the only holy people who do the will of God, other churches are bad, and sinners who interpret the word of God to suit their goals. You have already judged and pronounced your verdict, but let me tell you, you are wrong. Jehovah's witness as you call them is considered a cult by many, if you like, join.
The reason why you think they know the bible so well and interpret it correctly is because you don't know the bible.
How well do they interpret the bible when they teach that heaven is full and nobody can go to heaven, when Jesus said he is coming to take his people to heaven so that where he is there his people will also be.
When they come to preach to you tell them to pray first b/4 they start the teaching, you will see that they can never do it because is against their cult rules. You said that they are holy, that they live by the word of God, ask them to tell you when they eat holy communion last, you will be shocked to know that they have not done that for a long time, ask them why they will tell you they're not qualified cos they are sinners. I have so much to tell you but no time, am ready to be challenged by any of them. They bible says that this present earth will be destroyed by fire, they said no way, and you're telling me that they interpret bible well. Please open your eyes o

God is a person and Spirit. God expresses self through creation. If you take time to examine creation, the earth, vegetation, animals, weather etc, you will see the orderliness than can only be ordered by a person. Take a leaf, examine the veins, take a human being, examine yourself, your body and its functions. Have you ever said thank you for your two legs that take you everywhere? the hands you use to scoop water, to write? your eyes? your ears? There is a God behind all these things. Science is the discovery of what God has created.

He loves you. Nobody is a mistake. He created you for a purpose, to be part of a greater purpose that you cannot imagine. He seeks your friendship, a relationship to guide you through your stay on earth. There is no way you can understand the bible without His revelation. You may use the bible as punching lines to make your point. There are mere words until you have divine revelation. That is why, people refer to it as the living bible.

When you talk about denominations, baptists, catholics, pentecostals etc, you are talking about how humans have interpreted the bible. It is amazing how people rely on others to translate the bible to them. You can read english. God allowed you to be educated, why can't you prayerfully read the bible and ask your creator that brought you into this world to explain things to you? facts of the case, you do not know how you came into this world (yes, there are theories) and you do not know when you would leave and where you are going? Other humans like you have decided to interpret the bible and you put your destiny in their hands? When you leave this earth, you may wonder why you did not read it for yourself?

Hell is real. Some may joke about it but it does not make it unreal. The fact that you will argue the bible is not real or hell is not real will not change what God has ordained. You, a mere statistic wanting to change what God has ordained? Our God is merciful.  If you leave this earth without thinking of it, the risk is great. There is only one way to know if hell is real and that is when you die and it would be too late. If you consider all the bible says about hell and give yourself a 50% person chance of it being true, you are taking an enormous risk you won't even take in a normal business decision.

God is a person and seeks a relationship with you. He did not bring you here to abandon you. He hears you. He knows how many hairs are on your head. Just ask Him today for direction in this life. " Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with Me " Revelations 3:20

If you do not know the church to attend, ask God to direct you and not humans that are searching too. God loves you and he wants you to talk to him all the time. May God direct you as you seek him in the Name of Jesus, Amen.

I am seeing that most people just dont know that the bible is a standard. if you have read from the bible yourself and understands it or helped to understand logically and believed it. then, what will make you look elsewhere, for what?, the truth shall set you free. Jehovah's withnesses are the most organized bible based truth believers i have ever known. the bible is their standard, not the pastor, they dont read the bible by proxy. they Examine it.

If you want to Join the witnesses, its totally your call but i will like point out some of their doctrines to you

Firstly, they do not Believe in the Divinity of Jesus saying that He is one of the Chief angels, that he was created by God thereby rejecting HIM as God,Secondly they also do not believe in the Trinity, thats God the Father,The Son and The Holy Ghost
Also the reject the whole concept of heaven and hell.

And also that the Holy Spirit is not a person but an 'active force' which is pure blasphemy, God forgive them

Lastly they believe that heaven is meant for only 144000 people, meaning we are all damed grin

And that the world came to an end in 1914,

But one thing i do admire about them is the Brotherly love they share apart from that they just dont entice me

If you want to join any church, please do join the Seventh Day adventist, am not a member oo but their Doctrine is sound and you can google more about the Witnesses, and decide
Thank you
Another belief JW hold onto is that Jesus Christ did not resurrect physically from the grave. So that's a major no no.

As for Seventh day adventist, they worship on Saturday because of their belief that God created the Sabbath day to be a day of rest not sunday. However, I would discourage you from joining them because Colosians 2:16 says "So don't let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths."

I have seen that most people in the house were disfellowshiped by JW and that is why they are very angry with them. This act makes the congregation clean and we should all accept it with open hands. Also, those who try to support the teachings of trinity, are you blind? How can this word be in a real sense and we can not see it in the bible and yet you say that you believe the bible. Someone in the house said that God jehovah is God, jesus is god and Holy spirit is god, and because of these, trinity is real. Believe me my brothers and sisters, human were also called gods and this probably makes us part of the trinity. Therefore assumption is very bad. Reason this, trinity as big as the name implies and very important not appear in the bible for once and not mention by jesus himself  makes it real? Could it be that it started when the bible has been completed in writing? We go by evidence and not by what individual tells us. Go with the bible teachings. JW not celebrate xmans why? Because it is not a bible teaching and that word never appear anywhere in the bible. Moreover, jesus our leader never did it, his apostles never did it and we can not do it. It is therefore very important to act as the name implies, christians or christlike. JW are good people. They love everyone and that is why they bring the good news to your door step. They care for people and love one another. JW never criticized others because they learn from jesus not to judge others even if they are wrong. Go and verify any book or magazines produced by them and quote it here why the criticize. I say this and i will say it again, the poster of this topic, peoples opinion here can never give you the real reason for or against the witnesses, go by the teachings and examine the with your own bible. If their teachings goes in harmony your bible, follow it up with regular bible studies. If it didn't, then quit from them. But act wisely and never seek what belong to you and God to be decided here by probably people who never read the bible since the beginning of the year 2011. The decision is yours, the verification is yours and the finding is your and the action is yours alone. But know that if you follow the witnesses, you will be hated for just no cause and you should be prepared for this. Again stop seeking opinions here because God is watching and he will not be happy to see that you make a decision because of peoples opinion. Once again, make the decision alone. Thanks to all but make sure you  that you say what you personally and truthfully know about any religion here.
Re: Will I Be Making A Mistake By Becoming A Jehovah's Witness? by niyimat(m): 7:55am On Nov 09, 2011
I am a jehovah witness. That been said, reading through this online thrend an wholistic analysis of it reveals the underline factor of knowing what you believe, and can prove it with enough bible references anywhere and anytime and to anybody no matter lie that are been said about it which obviously is the handiwork of the wicked one the devil.

People who do not believe what the jehovahs witnesses preach do not have any proof at all. Most time, they depend on google search, copy and paste information from websites of apostates (most times disfellowshiped members of JW) without even making any attempt to check whether such info are correct or outright slanders and lies. Many of these websites will even ask you to come and pay money so that you can support their propagandas.

Some listen to what other say about them, but the best way to know a person is by getting to know him yourself not relying on what other say about him.

On the other hand, JW's comments on this thrends have shown that the truth about something can only be said only one way. There is no half truth, the other version is false if differently said from the truth.

The Bible does not contradict itself and that is what made searching for the truth easy and enjoying. Somebody who believe in the trinity may do so because he read two verses of the bible. The questions are have you consider other bible verses with open mind? Have you consider what the other bible books; luke, matthew, james, act of apostle, thessalonians, timothy hebrew said about it with an wholistic view?. Have you considered how other translations of the bible renders it? Did you pray for God's holy spirit to assist you so that you will not have a bias mind?

This is what JWs do everyday apart from listening at the kingdom hall, it is called personal bible study. And that is why we are called bible students. Try and do these and you will be glad you did.

Thanks

@Op. I really appreciate it when people like you try to make the truth their own.
I was raised in the truth by my parents, but i was personally convinced that 'this is the true organization. Likewise, i want you to have a personal conviction that you are in the right religious organization -Jehovah's witnesses organization.
In addition, you need to be like the beroeans who examined the scriptures thoroughly and made sure that the things they learnt were true(Acts 17;11). Hence, you need to study the bible very well and weigh what you learn from Jehovah's witnesses with what you have previously learnt from your churches and see the difference. Obviously, you will see that We are teaching exactly what is in the bible.
However, please note that we remain to be imperfect like every other person as long as we are in this system of things, but we strive to live by Jehovah's righteous standard and do his will.

Lastly they believe that heaven is meant for only 144000 people, meaning we are all damed!

Even the Jehovah witnesses are damned because they are more than 144,000! No hope!

Hell is real! you can only dispute this after you die. The fact that you do not see electricity does not prevent you from using it.
If you need to see hell before you believe it, good luck. The bible is very clear about it. There are 32 references in the bible about hell. see Isaiah 31:15; Matthew 10:28; Deuteronomy 32:22, Psalms 9:17; Psalm 55:15, Psalm 139:8; Matthew 5:30; 2 Peter 2:4, 2 Thessalonians 1:7 - 10 etc. And over 500 references about fire.

People have dreamt of it. People near death have testified of it. You need to die to verify its existence. Do not take chances with your eternal destination. What frightens me most about what the bible says about hell is people do not leave it. There is no time frame. It is endless pain and anguish for those that end up there. Revelations 20:10; Mark 9: 42-48

Please go to a church where the King James Version is taught and ALLOWED to be discussed freely. JW have their own bible. They do not read other bibles. God bless you.

FreeCoacoa, I want say that u are making a wise decision. Request a bible study with them and u will never regret it. Most claiming holy spirit here have not read their bible since this year not to talk of reading it cover to cover in their life time.
Like the Beoroans, search out from the bible to know wether u r doing the right thing, pray for Johovah's holy spirit to guide u. The truth is that, if u are sincere in ur search and are made up, Jehovah will let himself be found by you.
If u have a relative JW, meet with him/her, and if not, don't worry they are everywhere in ur neughbourhood. U can mail me on ezeafurukwe@gmail.com for further discusions and questions from u. Thanks!!

"Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment." (1 Corinthians 1:10).
"For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ." (1 Corinthians 1:11-12).
"Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?" (1 Corinthians 1:13).
This applies to the churches of nowadays, There is no denomination in heaven, and it will surprise us that God will take only the faithfuls when the time comes no matter which church they belong, The Holy Spirit hasnt stopped teaching those that ask for the truth about God's word. So lets not get ahead of ourselves here. There are still many lost souls out there to be won, Thanks

Questions Often Asked by Interested People
If God is love, why does he permit wickedness?
GOD does permit wickedness, and millions on earth willfully make a practice of it. For instance, they declare wars, drop bombs on children, scorch the earth, and cause famines. Millions smoke and get lung cancer, practice adultery and get sexually transmitted diseases, use alcohol to excess and get cirrhosis of the liver, and so on. Such people do not truly want all wickedness stopped. They only want the penalties for it eliminated. When they reap what they have sown, they cry out, “Why me?” And they blame God, as Proverbs 19:3 says: “A man’s own folly wrecks his life, and then he bears a grudge against the LORD.” (The New English Bible) And if God stopped their evildoing, they would protest their loss of freedom to do it!
Jehovah’s main reason for permitting evil is to answer Satan’s challenge. Satan the Devil said that God could not put men on earth who would be true to Him under test. (Job 1:6-12; 2:1-10) Jehovah allows Satan to remain to have opportunity to prove his challenge. (Exodus 9:16) Satan continues to bring woes now, to turn men against God, as he tries to prove his challenge. (Revelation 12:12) However, Job kept integrity. So did Jesus. True Christians do now.—Job 27:5; 31:6; Matthew 4:1-11; 1 Peter 1:6, 7.
I would like to believe in an earthly paradise where people live forever, but isn’t that too good to be true?
Not according to the Bible. It seems too good to be true only because mankind has known the bad for so many centuries. Jehovah created the earth and told mankind to fill it with righteous men and women who would care for its plant and animal life and preserve its beauty instead of destroying it. (See pages 12 and 17.) Rather than that promised Paradise being too good to be true, the present sorrowful state is too bad to continue. Paradise will replace it.
How can I answer people who scoff and say that the Bible is a myth and is unscientific?
Faith in these promises is not a matter of credulity. “Faith follows the thing heard.” By studying God’s Word, its wisdom becomes apparent and faith grows.—Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:1.
Biblical archaeology confirms much of the Bible’s historical accuracy. True science harmonizes with the Bible. The following facts were in the Bible long before they were discovered by secular scholars: the order of stages through which the earth passed in its development, that the earth is round, that it hangs in space on nothing, and that birds migrate.—Genesis, chapter 1; Isaiah 40:22; Job 26:7; Jeremiah 8:7.
The inspiration of the Bible is shown by fulfilled prophecies. Daniel foretold in advance the rise and the fall of world powers, as well as the time when the Messiah would come and be put to death. (Daniel, chapters 2, 8; 9:24-27) Today, still other prophecies are being fulfilled, identifying these as “the last days.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5; Matthew, chapter 24) Such foreknowledge is not within man’s power. (Isaiah 41:23) For more confirmation, see the books The Bible—God’s Word or Man’s? and Is There a Creator Who Cares About You?, published by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.
How can I learn to answer questions on the Bible?
You must study the Bible and meditate on it, at the same time asking for God’s spirit to direct you. (Proverbs 15:28; Luke 11:9-13) “If any one of you is lacking in wisdom,” the Bible says, “let him keep on asking God, for he gives generously to all and without reproaching; and it will be given him.” (James 1:5) Also, there are Bible study aids worth consulting. Usually help from others is needed, as when Philip studied with the Ethiopian. (Acts 8:26-35) Jehovah’s Witnesses conduct Bible studies free of charge with interested people in their homes. Feel free to request this service.
Why do many oppose Jehovah’s Witnesses and tell me not to study with them?
There was opposition to Jesus’ preaching, and he said that his followers also would be opposed. When some were impressed with Jesus’ teaching, religious opposers retorted: “You have not been misled also, have you? Not one of the rulers or of the Pharisees has put faith in him, has he?” (John 7:46-48; 15:20) Many who advise you not to study with the Witnesses are either uninformed or prejudiced. Study with the Witnesses and see for yourself whether your Bible understanding increases or not.—Matthew 7:17-20.
Why do the Witnesses call on people who have their own religion?
In doing this they follow Jesus’ example. He went to the Jews. The Jews had their own religion, but in many ways it had turned away from the Word of God. (Matthew 15:1-9) All nations have religions of some kind, whether so-called Christian or non-Christian. It is vitally important for people to hold beliefs that conform to God’s own Word, and the efforts of the Witnesses to assist them in doing this constitute a showing of neighbor love.
Do the Witnesses believe that their religion is the only right one?
Anyone who is serious about his religion should think that it is the right one. Otherwise, why would he or she be involved in it? Christians are admonished: “Make sure of all things; hold fast to what is fine.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21) A person should make sure that his beliefs can be supported by the Scriptures, for there is only one true faith. Ephesians 4:5 confirms this, mentioning “one Lord, one faith, one baptism.” Jesus did not agree with the modern, relaxed view that there are many roads, many religions, all leading to salvation. Instead, he said: “Narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it.” Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that they have found it. Otherwise, they would look for another religion.—Matthew 7:14.
Do they believe that they are the only ones who will be saved?
No. Millions that have lived in centuries past and who were not Jehovah’s Witnesses will come back in a resurrection and have an opportunity for life. Many now living may yet take a stand for truth and righteousness before the “great tribulation,” and they will gain salvation. Moreover, Jesus said that we should not be judging one another. We look at the outward appearance; God looks at the heart. He sees accurately and judges mercifully. He has committed judgment into Jesus’ hands, not ours.—Matthew 7:1-5; 24:21; 25:31.
What financial contributions are expected of those attending meetings of Jehovah’s Witnesses?
Regarding money contributions, the apostle Paul said: “Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7) At the Kingdom Halls and convention auditoriums of Jehovah’s Witnesses, no collections are ever taken. Boxes are placed so that it is convenient for any who wish to contribute to do so. No one knows what or if others give. Some are able to give more than others; some may not be able to give anything. Jesus showed the right view when he commented on the treasury box at the temple in Jerusalem and those contributing: It is one’s capacity to give and the spirit of giving that count, not the amount of money.—Luke 21:1-4.
If I become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, would I be expected to preach as they do?
When one becomes filled with the knowledge of the promised earthly Paradise under Christ’s Kingdom, one wants to share it with others. You will too. It is good news!—Acts 5:41, 42.
Doing this is an important way of showing that you are a disciple of Jesus Christ. In the Bible, Jesus is called “the faithful and true witness.” When on earth he preached, saying: “The kingdom of the heavens has drawn near,” and he sent out his disciples to do the same. (Revelation 3:14; Matthew 4:17; 10:7) Later, Jesus commanded his followers: “Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, . . . teaching them.” He also foretold that before the end, “this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations.”—Matthew 24:14; 28:19, 20.
There are many ways of declaring this good news. Conversation with friends and acquaintances often opens the way to do so. Some do it by writing letters or by using the telephone. Others mail literature containing material that they think an acquaintance would be especially interested in. Out of a desire to miss no one, Witnesses go from door to door with the message.
The Bible contains this warm invitation: “The spirit and the bride keep on saying: ‘Come!’ And let anyone hearing say: ‘Come!’ And let anyone thirsting come; let anyone that wishes take life’s water free.” (Revelation 22:17) Telling others about the Paradise earth and its blessings is to be done willingly, out of a heart filled with a desire to share this good news.
We are sure that you have other questions about Jehovah’s Witnesses and their beliefs. Perhaps some issues are controversial in nature. We would like to answer your questions. Space is limited in this brochure, so we invite you to ask the Witnesses locally. You can do so either at their Kingdom Hall meetings or when they visit you in your home. Or you may send your questions to Watch Tower, using the appropriate address listed below.
