STOP HYPOCRISY!!!

What really is hypocrisy?
"Hypocrisy is a false appearance of virtue or goodness while concealing the real character, especially with respect to religious and moral beliefs; the claim or pretense of possessing standards, values, qualities, virtues, motivations e.t.c which one does not really possess; the practice of engaging in the same behavior or activity which one criticises openly." Hypocrisy in a layman's term is simply pretence.
The word hypocrite comes from the Greek word "hypokrites" meaning "an actor" or "a stage player". A hypocrite is one who pretends to be something he/she is not with the intention of gaining recognizance or honour. Hypocrisy is thus, a deliberate act. Such a person would deliberately appear to be clean outside whereas he/she is dirty inside. His/her true colours are hidden for the purpose of deceit. In Matthew 23:27, Jesus Christ condemns hypocrisy.

There are three (3) modes of hypocrisy. The first is, presenting or disguising yourself to be who you are not and the social media is a very powerful player in this mode of hypocrisy as people portray their selves to be who they are not thereby, misleading others. I once heard a story about a dark skinned girl who went missing. Due to the fact that she would always portray herself to be light skinned in her pictures on social media, finding her became lot more difficult. Apart from this, some people claim to be wealthy on social media but in reality they are not. Some claim to have attended highly reputable and expensive schools but in reality they never did. People go about posting misleading contents on social media in order to create some sort of fake impression. We are admonished in Romans 12:3 not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought to think.
The second mode of hypocrisy is to affirm to a particular belief system but displaying behaviors that are perverse to that belief or acting in opposition to that particular belief (Isaiah 29:13).
The third mode of hypocrisy is treating others as inferior or looking down on them because of their imperfections when you are also imperfect (Matthew 7:3-5, Romans 4:10, Proverbs 14:21).
All these forms of hypocrisy are violation of God's law.

BIBLICAL DESCRIPTION OF HYPOCRITES
Jesus Christ describes hypocrites in several ways which includes;
1. White-washed tombs in Matthew 23:27. This implies that they look clean and pure outside but are full of carcass inside. In other words, they are very filthy and stinky inside. How disgusting!
2. Jesus Christ in Matthew 17:15 describes them as wolves in sheep's clothing which implies that they appear gentle outside but they are very wild inside. Their true character is toxic.
3. In Luke 11:44, Jesus Christ describes them as graves. What a pity!
4. In Matthew 23:33, they are described as snakes and brood of vipers. This implies that they are such poisonous and dangerous personalities. People may have no idea of what they are capable of doing because they are cunning.

Furthermore, people often indulge in hypocrisy because of their perception of Christianity. They view Christianity as a mere religion rather than a relationship with God such that they care more about how people see them and what people will say other than how God sees them.
Hypocrisy being a negative practice has negative effects. It brings disgrace to the indulger (Jeremiah 13:25-26). It incurs curses on oneself (Job 15:34-35) and it may lead to spiritual death (Job 36:13-14)

The bottom line is, hypocrisy is a violation of God's law and we all are urged to desist from it (Isaiah 55:7). If we are actually more conscious of our relationship with God, we would likewise be conscious of the fact that God sees and knows our hearts. He sees everything single thing we do and hears everything we say. He knows our true intentions. When we are always conscious of our relationship with God, we will not be hypocritical rather, our good deeds and intentions inside would reflect effortlessly outside.

Quit hypocrisy!!!
JESUS LOVES YOU.
