So what if Madam Speaker does not want to resign? To me, I want to believe that the whole saga is being politicised, and definitely not on the fact of fighting "due Process" as our Lawmakers want us to believe. Truth is what was the precedence before she became speaker? I am quite sure if the probe covered the past speakers of the house, we will discovered that due process wasnt follow during their terms. Why was her own different? Was it because she is a woman, no wonder there was no a single woman in the panel that probe the scandal? or perhaps because she step on some toes who are hell bent in keeping certain key Chairman of certain committees as their birthright? Was it because she has the rubber stamp of the former President? or better still because some adversaries want to take her position by all means.
Whilst I am not saying this in her support, I however hold the firm belief that those Politicians are all the same. There is no gainsaying in it that the next successor will follow due process. It is when those lawmakers want to deal with any of their colleagues who seems not to dance to their tunes or follow the lay down "systems where rub my back I rub yours persist" that they invoke some nice tune like ("due process"wink that the public will want to hear to crucify each other. They are all the same. I hasten to add however that all their in-fighting was not because of we the electorates they represents, but because of their pockets no wonder they can descend so low as to box shamefully at the House while their children are watching the show of shame. I beg let us hear words. If she said she wont resign, who cares! One thing is quite clear, her resignation can never set things right so long as her successor continue to sing the tune they want to hear and not the tune the electorates wants. To hell with their lots.

Rather than resign she wants to be the spika of House of Representathives.Chikena

She is telling us that she is greater than Nigeria.

The power behind her are definitely leading Nigeria to a state where the people will take the law into their hands because the leadership are:
[li][/li]
[li][/li]
bankrupt of manners,
[li][/li]
[li][/li]
bankrupt of due process,
[li][/li]
[li][/li]
bankrupt of every good things in this world.

Remember this is not her first time of stealing public funds.
She was alleged to have attempted to steal the computers that she supplied to the House store in the early part of this republic.

This is daylight robbery and buffonery.
Who will save Nigeria from her leaders.

Only God .

@Mabelgee

I don't know why some people behave as if they don't belong to this planet. We are discussing the issue of someone that stole the money that belong to you and I and someone who had overfed herself with ijekuje is unconcern and now disturb us with her problem.

Please go to your doctor or wake up as early as 4 am and do road jogging and stop eating 10 wraps of fufu.

patricia etteh, madam speaker, beautician from ikire, lackey to Obasanjo who got the speakership post due to her closeness to our despotic from president. So how do you guys expect transperancy and probity from a person who wine and dine with ruler who hallmark of adminstration was corruption. AN OFFSPRING OF A tiger takes after a tiger in all attributes, so defiant attitude of Etteh after the daminig report didnt take me unawares cause her mentor took that stubborn and shameful toga all through 8 years of Ebora Owu's tenure in power. Like godfatther like goddaughter

She can stay and spend more money. See the house fighting over her and she is still happy and wants to stay. She's free to stay till ten years if she wants.
Afterall that is how Nigerian leaders are.

They pass us but GOD pass them

@ post

A columnist with Guardiand newspapers on 02/10/07 gave 50 reasons why Etteh would not resign. (hilarious)

It's a pity that majority of the yorubas are surpporting her even though she was clearlly indicted by the panel's report. But when our brothers in Niger Delta welcomes Alams; it is crminal, tribalistic and hypocritical.

I am really confused here.

Re: I Won’t Resign - Etteh by chidichris(m): 11:44pm On Oct 04, 2007
twinstaiye,
i wish you will ask why alams was caught and persecuted.
no matter what reasons you have or the house have, the bottom line is that we are fighting corruption and the wrath of the law does not catch on all offenders but on caught offenders.
she is guilty and not only are we expecting her to resign, we are expecting efcc to pick her immediately from the house to kirikiri.
the whole thing is stupid because it is the group involved had it been she is from a different camp 3 days will be enough to set up committee gazette the matter.
let the full weight of the law land on her at least, she will be used as an example to the notorious law makers we have in nigeria.
Re: I Won’t Resign - Etteh by denex: 12:13am On Oct 05, 2007
This shows that Nigeria is not ready for this Democracy thing at all. We don't even know how democracy works.

Etteh does not have the power to stay in the House of Representatives without the support of the majority of her constituency. I have mentioned earlier that this woman is in the House by the grace of the majority vote of the people of Ayedaade/Isokan/Irewole Federal Constituency of Osun state.

The fact that they still keep her there means that she is acting very much in accordance with their wishes. As long as they are satisfied with her actions, there is nothing we can do to remove her from the House of Representatives.

As for her remaining speaker, she doesnt have that power. All we need to do is call on our own Representatives and order them to impeach her or vote her out from the position of Speaker.

I really can't understand what this whole fuss is about.
Re: I Won’t Resign - Etteh by prominence: 12:47pm On Oct 05, 2007
twinstaiye i agree with you.
all those pointing accusing fingers at Mrs. Etteh are far worse, the degree of corruption in them can't be equated. they surely are not doing all these in the interest of the masses or nigerians in general, but for their veeeerrrrryyyy selfish reasons.
please they should let the woman be

Well said twinstaiye. Apart from that I dare say that , this kind of soap operal is welcomed in that, it brings to fore how/what our so-called representatives are doing with our resourses. shame sad
Re: I Won’t Resign - Etteh by IfeanyiO(m): 3:24pm On Oct 05, 2007
Please, for christ sake .Nigerian and their law makers should always remember to follow DUE PROCESS ,because as the law stands "A PERSON IS PRESUME INNOCENT UNTILL PROVEN OTHERWISE" so therefore. since the panel set-up has presented there report ,if no string attach. Nigerian will known as my fellow discussant pointed out will stand as the test for Mr. President to prove his statement to the world to be correct.

@denex, what inform you her constituency is satisfied with her action? Let me ask you, What power the citizen of this country have to elect a political office holder? You should no better that more than 90% of those elected into those offices were there by corrupt electoral system. Tell me how you want them to remove those they did not elect in the first place? dont blame the innocent poeople in her constituency, blame the electoral system that produce the kind of speaker you have.

Re: I Won’t Resign - Etteh by Tomme(f): 7:11pm On Oct 05, 2007
Really, Madam Speaker dissappointed me and a whole lot of Nigerian Ladies who were delighted on her appointment as Speaker of a male-dominated House. But Alas! merely 100 days in office and see the mess she got herself into.
Without gainsaying, Madam Speaker was that the proverbial person who has enemies that wanted to fry him and then went to rub himself in oil and sat next to the fire.
She should have known to be more careful in the handling of her financial affairs.
Now that the cat has been let out of the bag, i think the advisable thing would be for the disgraced Madam Speaker to step aside and let peace reign in the House.
Afterall, the position does not belong to her family.
Abi?

LET THE RULE OF LAW TAKE IT'S COURSE sad angry sad tongue
Re: I Won’t Resign - Etteh by chidichris(m): 10:05pm On Oct 05, 2007
yar adua himself is confused.
we often here him talk about the rule of law but what we do not know is what rule of law means to him.
he had obj talk about his readiness to fight corruption but we were all witnesses to his fight on corruption.
i am begining to feel that the woman in question is not facing any problems because most of the contracts yar adua cancelled which were awarded by obj were said to have not followed due process so if till now nothing happened to obj for not following due processes in awarding most of his contracts so why are we expecting anything to happen to her daughter?
that is the war and fight against corruption so we are about seeing yar adua's rule of law.

It was Ousmane Sembene who said “real misfortune is not just a matter of being hungry and thirsty, it is the matter of knowing that there are people who want you to be hungry and thirsty” in his book God’s Bits of Wood. It seems that misfortune is what smothers over us this day, threatening to cleanse our skies of good tidings and democracy.
It would seem clear to us that Her Most Peremptory Madam speaker, prides herself as being rather determined to serve her people in the capacity of speaker of the honorable house of representative at all cost, and she must defend that position with whatever she deems necessary irregardless of the effect this might have on the polity.
There has been quite a lot of brouhaha in the past 6 weeks or thereabout as regards this particular issue, and a lot of argument and even fisticuffs have emanated from within this nationally enervating chaos. Many a angles have been drawn up as to the cause of this public shame, some say its gender related, some feel its politically motivated, some say its based on the grievance of her colleagues she deprived of chairmanship slots, other still would like to put it at the door step of personal grudges,…………… I could go on and on as to the numerous faces this whole event has taken. But at the focal point of all of these lies the undebatable issue of morality and integrity. Need I sight examples of notable public office holders and leaders in other political climes who at the mention of allegations bothering on integrity honorably excuse themselves not because they are guilty as in most cases, but rather to give sanctity to that position and accept any fault on a personal basis.
This has proven to be totally alien to the Nigerian society, rather obstinacy is the watchword of most affected public office holders, and the decision of their political rather than the backing of the people seems to be what matters more to them.
The era of people oriented politics in this country that we all look forward to seems to drift farther and farther away, soon it shall vanish from our sight if we keep to this trend.
It does not bother me at this moment if Her Most Peremptory Madam speaker has been indicted or not, rather what beats me is her approach to the issue, it’s totally insalubrious to nation building.
I would rather she steps down and give peace a chance to exist in that lower house so we can at least start having some law-making

I'm not against a woman being the Speaker of our house, Nancy is also a speaker in the U.S, we have seen a woman like the former finance minister Okonjo Ngozie doing better then a man and now in the World Bank top, but in the case of Etteh, she want to use the state money for panket and lipstick, trowing birth day party up and down in the United States, before you know what is happening she will travel to Spain for facial or abdominal surgery to look like a sweet 16 so that Mike Okiro can climb her just like Balogum climbed Stella during the regime of the ugliest President in my Generation, I think late present Eyadema of Togo is far taller and prettier than Obasanma

With utmost respect to your person, I fell strongly about your bringing of Okiro into this. He is a decent man and can't afford to have his name smeared just like that.
