Re: Tennis: Australian Open 2012 by member67023: 1:19pm On Jan 24, 2012
LOL, Nadal still believes in his water-bottle positioning superstition.
He better goes to learn how to serve well, That his jazz will not always save him.

I can't imagine a top player of Nadal status to be this passive. Standing up to 4 meters behind the base line to receive second serves of average speed of 140kph. What a shame!

We all know Nadal is on the low of his career; any of the top 10 go into games with their heads high against him.

Wonder what Berdych is complaining about. He is complaining about the balls i think.

We can talk about Nadal's physical side all day long but dude has vision. . . . .the way he places those shots at times, is just sheer magic!

That's it. The dream semi final match is here. I hope the FED thrashes Nadal in 3 straight sets.
Re: Tennis: Australian Open 2012 by Davidbanky(m): 2:06pm On Jan 24, 2012
That's a true grit of a champion,delivering d goods when needed .

Murray has the easiest route to the SF
Murray will def steam roll into the semis

jay bee:

King Fed needs to bring his A game if he wants to reach the semis
He sure brought his A game. King Fed lives on

jay bee:

Nadal needs to fight as usual and i'm sure he will be well tested by berdych
As predicted. Nadal still a dangerous opponent for fed but this is Fed's favourite surface so hmmmmmmm

jay bee:

Nole might struggle to get past Ferrer
I'm still undecided. Something tells me ferrer might just nick it
Re: Tennis: Australian Open 2012 by Davidbanky(m): 2:11pm On Jan 24, 2012
I think †н!$ game is a boost for nadal , Have not seen him play †н!$ long since 2009 at d semis against fernando verdasco,†ђa† was 5hrs 14mins,not up to 2days later he defeated federer,i think nadal can handle anybody now,not at his best yet but he's is coming gradually,he just knows how to bounce back after a not too good year against novak

On what basis please ? To me; this fixture is like the Bryan brothers taking on anybody kiss
Re: Tennis: Australian Open 2012 by jaybee3(m): 2:52pm On Jan 24, 2012
Ferrer is a grinder and extremely strong from the baseline which Nole is known to prefer on hard courts compared with the other top players that can mix the odd serve and volley with varying drop shots.
It's not going to be a walk over for Nole.
I just fancy david's chances
Re: Tennis: Australian Open 2012 by femzy(m): 3:01pm On Jan 24, 2012
Nywayz lets see how it thrives; they met twice last year taking a match apiece. IMHO Nole will take this.
Not just the fact that he is a better player but i don't see him dropping out to anyone out of the top 4 in his favourite GS

Seems that you did not watch the match. This was not a good performance from Nadal to be sincere. He was able to steal the win only because Berdych dropped his level after the second set. Nadal was too passive for the first 3 sets and only started attacking when he was leading 2 sets to 1. Against any of the top guys he would have gone long time. I hope the FED comes with his a game and Nadal will be white-washed.
Re: Tennis: Australian Open 2012 by lafile(m): 3:26pm On Jan 24, 2012
Well played Senor Nadal. Taking the second set tie break when facing set point, shows the champion in him. He dug VERY deep to find the will to beat Berdych. I was really impressed by the tall Czech today. wasn't impressed with Juan Martin del Potro though. Felt it was too easy for The Fed. Haba. Spoiling my hopes for an upset like that. So two of my fave (del Potro and Tsonga) out. Nole better win this one o.

Yh Ʊ are right but considering †ђξ fact †ђa† nadal came to †н!$ tournament with a painful knee and u see he has to bandage i†̥ everytime shows †ђa† today's display wasn't so bad,and against federe am going to put my money on nadal , Cos he just know how to defeat FED,but nadal still need to up his game if he is to win †н!$ competition , I miss his 2010 form , Nadal is a fighter anyday even though djokovic still remains †ђξ favourite ,

Ferrer's recent form has been sublime(going back to davis cup 2011)How long he can sustain this remains to be seen.I will pick him to do the damage as much as i would like an all spanish final
Re: Tennis: Australian Open 2012 by medjai(m): 8:45pm On Jan 24, 2012
Straight sets win for Roger. Great performance, when Federer is playing well it's almost impossible to beat him. Especially since his game, and his variety, are a terrible match-up for Del Potro.

Still, the Tower of Tandil is definitely headed in the right direction, very good tournament overall and he even had his chances yesterday in the first two sets, the scoreline is deceptively loopsided. That said, although Fed played great, there are things Delpo can improve and must improve if he wants to be a genuine threat at Roland Garros:

His forehand is getting closer and closer to the 2009 level and his fitness is also steadily improving. The two main problems are his serve and his return. It's pathetic to see such a big guy with such a weak serve; his serve should be a weapon, giving him tons of free points. Instead, he had only 5 aces, won only 58% of points in his first serve and double faulted on break points. Not good enough. He also could do nothing with Federer's second serve, his returns were not strong or deep at all.

If he can improve these two shots, especially his serve, back to 2009 levels (or better), then he will be ready to fight with Djokovic, Nadal and Federer. I still think he had a great tournament, played his best tennis since his injury and can obviously only get better, so it's an encouraging tournament. And let's also not forget that in 2009 he lost to Fed in the quarter in Australia 3,0,0 and then ended the year with a Grand Slam title. Good omen perhaps?

As for the semifinal, I hope Roger beats Rafa. Would love a Federer vs Djokovic final. But given the history between these two, Rafa is obviously the favorite. But if Roger can play like he did against Delpo, I wouldn't be surprised to see the great Swiss in the final.

21 minutes into the first set, Ferrer leads 2 games to 1. Djokovic has had 6 break points and still , fear don dey catch me. Ferrer's aggressive game is having the upper hand.

Looks like Nole is injured. He's trying to play through the pain, but i dont see him going beyond this set before he retires. Hope I'm wrong though.
