Exactly what powers are they looking for again? GEJ just gave them go ahead to build their own power plants. What other issues do they really need more powers for. Are they trying to blame their poor performance on limited powers? These governors are funny. They just like to appear on the pages of newspapers. Notice Edo and Ondo sent their deputies. While they are busy discussing and trying to get noticed, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Imo and Rivers are actually getting transformed. Talk is really cheap.

What on earth are you talking about? Are States now formally allowed to generate and distribute their own Power so that they are not dependent on an indolent centre keeping Nigeria prehistoric? Do they have the power to form State Police and thus control their own security as they wish? Can Governors develop mineral resources within their State? I could go on all day !!! It is ridiculous for anyone who truly understands how Nigeria is currently convened, with the FG being a tier impeding others while benefitting the most financially, to ask "Exactly what powers are they looking for again".

There is a lot , within the federal structure, Governors cannot do and indeed this call from the SW Governors is relevant, on point and beneficial to the entire Nation. You are only in objection because this call comes from SW Governors. That is how feudalistic this forum has become. Folks join discussion, ignore the subject matter, and simply oppose the messenger they do not like and are predisposed to arguing against never mind the merit of their position.

On another day, it is you who would argue for "true federalism" , "more power for States and region" , "weakening of the centre" etc, etc as these Governors now do. Just because these things you would ordinarily back comes from SW Governors, you feel you must oppose. I just pity many Nairalanders , on a personal basis, with the fuedalism they carry around that blinds reasoning and productive thinking. How can any half objective person , interested in the progress of Nigeria, have a problem with the truthful and factual statments below? Abi some of you need to be educated about how the FG collects 52% of allocation yet can only deliver infrastructural decay, abysmally poor healthcare, a failing education sector and general stagnation?

According to them, the Federal Government has accumulated “many responsibilities and power” that should have come within the purview of the federating states.

The governors deplored what they called “imbalance” in the resource allocation to states of the region, despite their contributions to the nation’s Gross Domestic products (GDP).

“The governors reaffirm their determination to ensure that justice is done on the revenue allocation framework in the country,” they said in a communiqué read by Dr Fayemi.

They lamented the worsening state of the federal roads in the old Western region particularly the Lagos – Ibadan and Sagamu – Benin Expressways, saying the daily gridlock often witnessed on the roads leads to job losses, economic wastage and insecurity.

The governors resolved to explore the option of taking over the reconstruction and management of those roads to bring sanity back. They also agreed on the need to create alternative road and rail lines to link Lagos and Asaba in Delta State.
