If its not an Igbo custom to bow before elders as Yorubas do,  so not bowing is not disrespectful in Igbo culture. Why do Yoruba people take it to be a lack of respect? If a British or American person does not bow to an elder, do you see them as being disrespectful, ofcourse not, its not their culture. Its not a specific Igbo culture to do so and its Igbos who will define what is acceptible or otherwise in their own culture thankyou very much.

Why on earth you should think that your own cultural practices  should dictate to another tribe is beyond me.

How many other tribes in Nigeria bow as the Yorubas do? So does every tribe lack respect?

It helps to think before you speak thats what equals ignorance, ignorance about other people's cultural norms.

I personally think it's so idiotic. Every Nigerian I know used to act so surprised at it as if it was the next Trade center incidence. When I eat they look at me wierd like the damn food is not going to get there anyway. I am telling you if not for the God fearing respect my parents instilled I wanted to tell those people how dumb the whole idea was. They would asct baffled when I eat. These same people are eating the food I cooked with my left hand. My parents were telling me how people used to confuse me when I was learning to write. Instead of morons foucsing on important things they would focus on trying to change my writing hand as if they is going to change what words were constructed. I have gotten that silly look from both Igbos and Yorubas alike. However I went to a predominantly Yoruba church when I got here and they would act as it they were stupified by someone using left hand. I always say you can comeout of bush but bush can;t vome out of you.

I remember a day that i was charting with my dad and our land lord came from my back and the next for him to do was to slap me from the back, when ask him why. He said because i was looking my dad in the face. Can you beat that. Na wa o for respect
