I can't believe I'm even contributing to this post ,due to its obvious illogical outlook.

The ex-despot will be almost 70 by 2011,  does this make any sense? All over the world ,genuine leaders are working towards younger successor generations, But in Nigeria??

It's a free nation, thank God it is OK for each and every one of us to select which ever side we desire.

It is amusing how boys find it very difficult to focus on the topic, there is absolutely not need to exhibit this infantile disposition.
Instead of smelling big b1' balls, may be it will be more constructive to list why IBB should not run for president in 2011.

The topic says:"IBB To Run For President In 2011: Your Opinion" not waste your time castigating Big B1.

I'm not the governor of your villages and I did not chase your families out of Nigeria, please stay focused, have some self respect and play maturely.

Obasanjo, IBB battle for the soul of PDP
The cold relationship between former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida and immediate past president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, may have shifted to the National Convention of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as both appear set for a fierce battle.

The convention, which has been shifted from December 8, 2007 to January 5, next year, as a result of a procedural error, has seen the party divided into Obasanjo and Babangida camps with each supporting different candidates for the office of the national chairman of the party.

PDP sources informed THISDAY that the convention, which has been described as a “battle of supremacy” between Obasanjo and Babangida, is aimed at controlling the party ahead of 2011 presidential election.

According to sources who spoke with THISDAY, Obasanjo’s camp has given its support behind the former governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Sam Egwu, for the national chairmanship, while Babangida has tacitly anointed former Senate President, Chief Anyim Pius Anyim, though some of Babangida’s allies are still in the race.

THISDAY gathered that the Obasanjo camp is counting on the support of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to checkmate Babangida, who is still believed to be harbouring a presidential ambition, presumably in the event that Yar’Adua does not go for a second term in 2011.

Babangida’s support for Anyim is believed to be his first step in seizing control of the PDP machinery.

Some former governors, who also eyed PDP’s presidential ticket along with Babangida last year but were schemed out at the convention, are believed to be teaming up against Obasanjo, although they will not be delegates to the January convention.

However, many PDP governors and some All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) governors, even though of the opposition party, are said to have sympathy for Obasanjo.

Obasanjo’s support for the candidatures of Senator David Mark and Mrs Patricia Etteh as Senate President and House Speaker respectively had sailed through in the National Assembly leadership elections last June, but there is now a move to “checkmate” Obasanjo’s further influence.

While Babangida is said to be positioning Anyim to emerge as the national chairman in order to gain control of the party, Obasanjo is said to be aiming to remain relevant in the scheme of things on the political terrain.

However, it was gathered that Babangida was not originally “very keen” on Anyim. This is because of Anyim’s about-turn against those who supported him to be Senate President in 2001. But the unlikelihood of the acceptance of Chief Ken Nnamani, immediate past Senate President, owing to intra-zonal political balancing, may have worked in favour of Anyim in Babangida’s reckoning.

Nnamani, like the current Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, is from Enugu State, while Anyim is from Ebonyi State. The South-east caucus is trying to narrow the choice to only Imo and Ebonyi States.

Obasanjo is also battling to remain the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the party – a position that only him can occupy going by the party’s constitution.

An amendment, which was effected last December, reserves the position for a former president elected on the platform of PDP.

It is believed that the anti-Obasanjo group is trying to move for his removal from the position.

The exit of Etteh as Speaker and the emergence of Hon. Dimeji Bankole as her replacement are both seen as steps towards the ouster of Obasanjo from the position.

Bankole is from Abeokuta, same as Obasanjo, and it is expected that the issue will be raised at the convention that the Speaker and the Chairman of BOT should not come from the same place.

Meanwhile, after a crucial National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, the party yesterday reversed itself on the resignation date of all members of the executive committees of the party at all levels. They are now to be in office till January.

By the directives of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party on September 13, 2007, all members of the NWC, State Executive Committees (SEC) and the Local Governments and Wards committees are expected to have filed letters of resignation 60 days to the respective executive committees election.

The NWC headed by Ali had filed their letters of resignation by October 8 and were therefore expected to leave office by December 8, while members of the SECs were expected to have resigned by November 16, having filed their notice of resignation by September 16.

The new development was consequent upon the letter from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which nullified all congresses and national convention of the party for lack of due process.

Twenty-one days notice ought to have given by PDP to the commission before the commencement of the congresses and national convention.

Addressing newsmen after its NWC meeting, the National Secretary, Chief Bernard Eze, said “all executive committee members at all levels including the NWC will continue to stay in office until further notice.”

He also announced that the NEC of the party would meet on November 23 to consider the proposed new dates of December 4 for ward congresses elections, December 8 for local government elections, December 16 for the State Congresses elections, December 19 for zonal congresses and January 5, 2008 for the National Convention.

Eze said that the new dates for the convention and congresses were picked to accommodate the 21 days notice demanded by the Electoral Act.

In a mild drama, INEC has said Eze is not known to it. But in a quick reaction, the PDP has written to INEC to introduce Eze as the authentic National Secretary.

He had just been picked to replace Chief Ojo Maduekwe who is now a minister.

Also, INEC has said unless PDP discloses the venues and times of its planned congresses and national convention, it will not recognise the congresses starting on December 8.

PDP, in a letter signed by the National Chairman, has complied and listed the dates and venues of the national convention and all the congresses.

In the new letter dated November 12 and made available to THISDAY, Ali also included the PDP guidelines for the convention and congresses.

Eze said the NWC had re-admitted the Governor of Rivers State, Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, to the party. He said that this was as a result of pleas from members of the party from the state.

However, he said that the governor’s re-admittance into the party was still subject to ratification by the NEC of the party which will meet on November 23.

Amaechi had been expelled in March for resorting to legal action after he was substituted as the party’s governorship candidate in Rivers State.

He was declared the authentic candidate of the PDP in the election by the Supreme Court last month and has since been sworn in as governor.

I believe IBB has every right to contest the next presidential election if he wins the primaries in any registered political party in Nigeria by 2011.

I also believe Nigerians have what it takes to get him into Aso Rock or hand him a serious defeat at the polls.

Simmer down guys, I can assure you that IBB has no interest in running for 2011 presidential election.

But at the same time he's vigorously battling for the soul of PDP;
Have you guys thought of this latest development between OBJ and IBB as being designed by Yar'Adua to finally detach himself from OBJ or to detach OBJ from the new admin?
Open your mind and think; you can not continue to jump because they say so. There is much more to this development.

Trust me, IBB will not run for the 2011 presidential election, at this point of his life he's completely appease with him self.
There is a unique reason for his latest action with PDP, and when the time is right it will all be revealed by the Federal Government new strategies of operation.

No need to waste your time and energy; just chill and watch!

Haba, so what is it? IBB wants to run for President in 2011 or IBB is battling
for the Soul of PDP (as if PDP had any soul)? Messenger, which one is it?

By the way, I don't see the words "battle" and "soul" in the topic header,
except I am missing something.

Say hello to my little friend (mckren)

How about starting a new "IBB is the best thing in the whole wide world" thread?
As they say in Nigeria: return to sender. Tell your guy we are not interested in his failed
leadership.

Meanwhile, he can continue to live in his delusional world as to how the vast majority of
Nigerians love him and how he his such a visionary leader. That goes for you as well.

i believe age discrimination is illegal in nigeria as in most parts of the world. so ibb can contest whatever he wants. but nigerians will have to be on valium on the day of election for this dude to emerge president, because there will be only one voter on the day. i believe we all know who that'll be.
Re: IBB To Run For President In 2011: Your Opinion by BigB11(m): 7:04pm On Nov 15, 2007
It was premature for any one to insinuate that I was harboring an intention to hijack the structures of the party to ventilate my 2011 presidential ambition when the processes of the 2007 general elections are still inconclusive.

“As at date, there is a President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Yar’Adua. It should be the primary responsibility of anyone who wishes Nigeria well to pray for the sustenance of democracy and the present elected executives at the various levels while also not prejudicing those who are at the tribunals,” he said.
