velociraptor: @ phenomenonvfx: yeah, i like ur characters n models. dont mind us and d machines, it was just wot d story was based on. we will meet soon cos i like ur spirit. is blender u main 3d app? wot re u strong points in 3d?
@velociraptor
Blender is my main 3D app, yes. But I dont think that has anything to do with anything. The artist should define the tools not the other way round. That is why I laugh when I see people download the latest software outthere when they havent even learnt how to use the ones they have. Most big studios reprogram software to suit their needs or create plug-ins for them. Like GUIs and fancy interfaces are for inexperienced computer programmers and users, so are latest fancy magic buttons in 3d apps; they dont help in really learning stuff. 3d is like programming. Once u can work with one software, u can work with another easily. You only have to learn the ways to do it in the new software. On my strong points in 3d, I have to say apart from a knack and ability to learn very quick, I can model quite well and animate and I also know the technical sides of 3d in general like how things work down beneath; a knowledge of the technical part of computer graphics not just the art.

I am flattered u intend to add me to one of ur future projects. I have always been looking forward to working with other 3d enthusiasts. Just let me know when u are ready for the project. We can discuss more about it whenever u are ready.

Firstly, I think that is the most hideous animated character reel I have ever seen. Secondly- haba guy!- u had to go steal someelse's animation school logo to market ur 400,000 naira animation training course. That caveman logo u used belongs to The Animation School in SouthAfrica. Let's just hope ur students are far more stupid than I am. And I read somewhere where u said u spent 4 million naira learning computer graphics and animation, I have got to say u are either not entirely truthful or a very slow learner. No disrespect. I cant even boast of spending up to 50k learning animation (and I am still learning) but my characters are far better than that on ur reel. I think it is time we graphics artists and animators started taking ourselves seriously and stop all this plagiarism; using other peoples model and other peoples animated scenes and passing them off as our own so that people can call us "badt guys". Character animation is one of the hardest things to do in CG. It takes a lot of time learning, hardwork, reading and observing to get it right. It is science. It is arts. It is not for every Tom, Dick and freaking Harry. But when u pay the price of learning and doing ur homework, u always reap the reward of fun and probably fiscal pay-offs too if that is the ultimate goal for u.

We didnt steal anything from nobody and we never said we owned dat image. My admin guy had to download dat image to use when he couldnt access d images we sent him then. It was suppose to be a temporary arrangement.

Secondly,before u start running ur mouth like a leaking basket about the price we put for d course,maybe you should go and find out from Protea hotel(the proposed venue at dat time),how much they'd charge a day for you to use their conference room(incuding the breakfast n lunch dat dey would have served),for the entire duration of d course. Sometimes,I'm surprised @ how the average Nigerian thinks. If you've ever organised or attended any corporate seminar held in a decent/exquisite enviroment,you'd understand our pricing aint out of place,coupled with what would be taught and materials(not free tutorials) dat would be given out. Maybe u need to leave ibadan and come to Lagos and see things done properly. Our target market wasnt every Tom,D-ick n Harry. There are animation schools in lagos who charge millions and teach nothing. Stop talking from ur cave in Ibadan & putting down other pple's hustle. Afterall,we didnt force it down pple's throat.

If you didn't spend up to 50k to learn,clap for urself. Thanks for being the modern day Einstein.

@chronique
Wow! LOL. I am glad I elicited such an emotional response from u. I hope that made u feel better. It still doesnt change anything I said. And dude, I am enjoying my cave quite alright. My point is try a little more honesty next time. Met too many guys like u outthere making bogus claims and frustrating fledgling enthusiasts like me. And I cant abide them. (when I saw ur post on this thread and then ur site, I was actually happy that I had finally found a very good animation school in Nigeria. What with all that bit about 10 years experience and creating standard stuff like Shrek and what-not. But that logo and reel sank my heart). Use ur own work. Design ur own stuff. When u do, u wont have guys like me heckling u. I will praise u even; I promise. I look forward to that day when u do. Till then I have nothing else to say to u.
Wish u luck in ur hustle. I just hope ur abilities would match ur claims someday. That way knowledge-driven people who eventually come to learn animation from u would really have learnt something and not just turn out to be victims of another hustling Nigerian. I will like to believe I have given u something to think about even though u might hate me for it. Merry xmas.

To every man his own. I honestly am disappointed at the use of someone's image for marketing. The only place i'd gladly pay 2 learn would b damaroyworkshop but i've decided 2 go d free way-youtube. Im currently using blender and i have found tons of tutorials. Maybe i'll also start an animation school...at half your rates...with an original image on the advert.

Best of luck. Hope to see u making great animated characters in the not too distant future. God knows we need more animators --real animators-- in Nigeria. I hope we all become that soon. Because that is the only way we can reach international standards in our entertainment industry........and beat it if possible.

Well,just to clear the air. We initially put up a reel of jobs(mostly motion graphics) done for coys like mtn,nigerian brewries,skye bank,gulder,etc. However,we had to take d reel off as we were not given those jobs directly. They were out-sourced to some of our team members individually by d agencies who got them. We did that to avoid any legal issue cos the entity "chronx media" had no legal/direct dealings with them(agencies).

Well,if you'd love to be part of our team,dat would be nice. As regards the project,we had a temporary setback which affected us but we're still focused on our dream. Yes,I'm someone who really has a passion for 3d and definitely wanna give a platform to as many 3d artistes out there.

@ PhenomenonVFX, nice work. Blender3d will take you all they way.

I use blender3d for my full work-flow, gimp and adobe products for editing.
You may want to check out the newest blender3d (it has implemented Open Shader Language(OSL)

Below is something I showed last year on this forum to show some aspects of Blender's capabilities.

Hi. Nice meeting u. It's always pleasant to make the acquaitance of another Nigerian Blender user. Hope we can get to talk more about Blender sometime soon. grin
Re: Setting Standards In 3d Animation In Nigeria by Amhatu(m): 11:53pm On Jan 08, 2013
@ PhenomenonVF, I have been reading some forum topics on CG & 3d in Nigeria on this Nairaland Forum for sometime. I have noticed many are looking for Howto's , Making Super Hero Characters Etc.

At one time I was part of another forum in 2010 but they have since updated their platform.

Would you suggest a forum should be established to talk specifically about CG & 3d in Nigeria?

For Example : cg-3d-nigeria.com , (or any suitable website name) etc.

For Me at the next 3 months I am producing a short reel to test for a big project & adapting to Open shader Language in new Blender 2.65 .
