Kola nut: Nigeria's seed of togetherness Vanguard We also use it to appeal to the God of Heaven to guide us in our daily activities. After our petitions, we break it and eat, and if there is palm wine or gin, we drink to wash it down. In a sense, the act of kola nut breaking is like the act of ... http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/05/kola-nut-nigerias-seed-of-togetherness/ |

I’ve always been of that conclusion myself...it is certainly something most if not all Nigerian ethnic groups have in common. How remarkable; something so small like kola seems to serve as a common denominator to a huge nation. Personally I love what the kola symbolises...now if only I could just reconcile with the taste... |

The kola nut really plays a significant role in Nigerian societies. As our peoples say, kola is life. He who brings kola brings life. emöfine2: I’ve always been of that conclusion myself...it is certainly something most if not all Nigerian ethnic groups have in common. Lol. Have you tried eating it with peanut butter and pepper? It masks the bitter taste. |

odumchi: Lol. Have you tried eating it with peanut butter and pepper? It masks the bitter taste. Peanut butter? Lol I’ve never heard of that style before. I actually rely on the bitterness because I take kola as a stimulant so I don’t really want to mask the flavour even though I don’t always like the bitter taste. But sometimes I usually wash my kola down with ginger beer or I accompany it with alligator pepper...however my father and sister wash their kola nut in salt and when we have guests we support the kola nut with money lol. Ptolomeus: I have read it wrong? Or the article says that the tail is used the kola nut in Catholic communion? Lol...Hi Plotomeus It’s not used in the Catholic communion it’s just that one man compared the significance and ritual of the kola nut to that of the catholic communion. Have you tried kola nut before? |

Igbos are probably the only Nigerian group who has an actual cola nut tradition filled with its rituals; we welcome visitors wuth it,prays with it,offers peace offerings with it,make sacrifices with it,makes traditional gatherings schedule with it and so many more activities.....and the Igbos say "onye wetalu oji wetalu ndu".....meaning; he who presented kola has brought life! Igbo kwenu! A proud and unshakable nwafor! |

emöfine2:Ahhhhhhh (relief) Thanks for the reply dear friend! Thank god I read wrongly! My confusion is that many elements of traditional religion began to be used by Christians ... even the name "Olorun" ... I thought that was also used cola nut. I know the kola nut ... I had the honor to try it. But in our country is not cultivated, possibly as a matter of climate. As usual, you're a sweet woman. Thank you dear friend! |

ifyalways: With the Gworo(hausa bitter kola) nothing helps the bitter taste. Remind me to avoid it. emöfine2: Ah, I see. Your teeth must be very healthy due to all the kola you consume lol. In addition to its ceremonial purposes, kola also plays an important role in our health. In the village, people advocate daily consumption of kola as a way to prevent oral diseases, toothaches, and cavities. Only if I could stomach the bitter taste! Also, you should try eating kola with spiced peanut butter, trust me you won't regret it. In Igboland, we eat kola nuts with spiced peanut butter and garden eggs. Delish! |

^^^ I don't eat it frequently but only when I have assignments and I may have to stay up late - that's where the bitter taste helps me I wouldn't actually mind trying out that combination with spiced peanut butter and garden egg...sounds slightly appetizing lol. Ptolomeus: Did you like the taste? |

odumchi: Ingredients: Kola nuts Peanut butter (Spiced with what actually?) Method of preparation? |
Re: Kola Nut: Nigeria's Seed Of Togetherness by odumchi: 2:35am On May 31, 2012 |
emöfine2: ^^^ Oh ok, lol. firestar: It's spiced with pepper. You prepare it by adding pepper into the peanut butter and then mixing it. After you mix it, you break the kola nut, pray over it, and enjoy! If you do this, please come back and tell us about your experience . 1 Like |
