Is better late than never if she's eager to have a degree. Just send this link to her and let her read this man's story.

It is never too late to get a degree.
Re: When Is It Too Late To Get A Degree? by Nobody: 11:49pm On Jun 13, 2012
If she wants the degree as bad as you've describe here, she'll get it; and in flying colours. Please don't discourage her; she just needs a plan on how to make it work.

Afterall, if an 80 year-old man can graduate from LASU on June 13, 2012, why can't a 41 year old woman do same from a Scotland University? smiley

i've been saying that my pastor should get a degree for a while now so i can take him seriously, he cannot continue to write controversial books without a dr before his name. . . pastor just doesn't do it!

It's never too late, if she needs to do it she should do it no matter how old she is. EVen 50 year olds go back to uni, weigh the pros and cons and get going! life is too short!

she should be grateful to God for who is she. She should remember the story of a man that went for a cleaning job at microsoft but was denied of the job cos he had no e-mail adress. he ut himself together and atarted selling tomatoes. He later became a multi millionaire and someone later told him dt had it been he had an e-mail he would have become............ the man though for a second and replied "I would have become a cleaner at microsoft"
The bottom line is that success is not synonimous with schooling.
How educated is Dangote? eh?

A journey towards acheiving success is never too late. My mum had her first degree when she was a little above your sister's age, though not for the financial benefits attached. But I tell you, she's a fufilled woman today. Let ur sis work towards achieving dis as she'd be very happy & fufilled to have accomplished this feat.

@wakababe,

I graduated in UK just over age of 30. Although I did several courses before but all were below degree level.
In my class, a few people were even older. One of them, her baby brother was to become one controversial minister in OBJ's government years later! With all humility, I did better than most younger peers.

I still haven't stopped learning totally. OK I wasn't married then and no kids.

Still she should consider a few things carefully: child care, spouse's support, finances (including any responsibility towards anyone in Naija), effect on her current job etc.

If she was in London, Birbeck College (University of London) would be a perfect place to do a part-time evening course (4 years). I didn't know that myself and did a gruelling full-time course and tried to earn money as well. I reckoned I was too old to take student loan and pay back for so many years.

The feeling is great when you finish, especially with flying colours.

wakagirl: My elder sister is getting quite upset and frustrated with herself for her inability to further her education back then. She is unfortunately 38 years at the moment, she has a stable job though not quite rewarding financially but it keeps body and soul together. She lives abroad (Scotland) and is not doing really bad just that recently she started feeling bad about not holding a degree cert. It was not her fault there just wasn’t support when she was supposed to further her education.

For some reasons she is feeling so bitter about it now and is getting very upset. She is to me lucky to still have a job and a stable one but she thinks if she holds a degree cert she can do a better job and earn more as her current job does not require any special skill and anyone can do it. At the same time she is worried about being able to cope and come out in flying colours as age is not on her side and she also has other commitment like kids to look after.

At 38 what advise will you give her, is it too late to pursue a degree and if not will she be able to cope and come out well and even at that will this degree be that relevant and useful at the end of the day with her age?

Will appreciate any advice.

It is not too late for her. Here in the United States, you see people who are in their 50s going back to school. Some people who are in their mid forties are going back to school because they want to take a different career path due to the economic recession and to make themselves more marketable. I highly encourage your elder sister to go back to school and get a degree if that is what she wants to do.

It's never too late. Within 5 years, she could get her masters if she puts her mind to it. She may not necessarily use it to work in a company, she could use her training for entrepreneurship.

It is her mental status.First degree is not a requirement for successful life.

Its Neva too late, if ur determined enough,u'll get it. Dis was frm a news i read dis a.m. Frm an Old man @his age he didnt give up. Pa Amodu Alimi, a confirmed 80year old man, graduated with Bachelor’s in Sociology at Lagos State University. He was said to have gained admission into the university in 2007, and underwent a full-time course. He was among the 22,033 others who
graduated recently. He has claimed to have achieved this
through dedication and focus, and doesn’t
seem to be disturbed about his age so far
he has achieved his aim.

@poster,

No time s too late to do anything in life except for the fear of unknown,in 2003 when i was about to graduate from LASU i knew of an Old man who just gain admission into lasu at the age of 72yrs and am told that the old man still went ahead and graduated with 2:1 which is not only exceptional but very rear considering his age.......my advice is that what u can achieve is what u are yet to embark upon.........let her take a giant step and she would be amazed at her performance after graduation and moreso for the fact that she feels the need to be educated is enough a drive to get her through.....my cents.

President Olusegun Obasanjo went to the University in 2007 after eight years in office as president of Nigeria. He was already above 60years old. So your sister still have all the time in the world to get Bsc, two Msc and two PhD if she want.

I absolutely agree with your opinion.
